Does anyone remember before we won a cup reading comments about how we were not a Stanley cup contending team because Kopitar wasn't a true #1 center.

I also remember being extremely lucky, like trailing 3-0 against the Sharks when TMac build the legendary choking artists.
I also remember the other Cup win where Vancouver hit the post twice in game 7 overtime before Stoll get the legendary slap shot in

Remember when he had to switch back to his old style mask because they thought that could be the reason he was so bad? Lol

Listened to the last few Kings related podcasts. It's one thing that none of the members of the Kings media will dare challenge Yannetti (and Murray) on any of the just total lies he tells on their shows, I guess he's a guest on their shows and they probably want to keep it that way (I could never personally be lied to for an hour straight). But then in subsequent shows they (more specificially the Mayor) then present the lies as facts, that is what is just unbelievablem and just shows how poorly this team is covered and with such little objectivity.

"We are a slow cook (their new fav term) term, and it's been that way for as long as I've been here. It takes 5 years for a guy to make the team and 7 to make a real impact"

"This slow cook was responsible for 2 SC winning teams"

The homegrown Kings SC winning team.

Anze Kopitar (NHL regular D+2, impact D+2)
Drew Doughty (NHL regular D+1, impact D+1)
Dustin Brown (NHL regular, D+1, impact D+4)
Jonathan Quick (NHL regular D+4, impact D+5)
Slava Voynov (NHL regular D+4, impact D+4)
Tyler Toffoli (NHL regular D+4, impact D+4)
Tanner Pearson (NHL regular D+2, impact D+2)
Kyle Clifford (NHL regular D+2, depth player)
Trevor Lewis (NHL regular D+5, depth player)
Alec Martinez (NHL regular D+4, impact player D+5)
Dwight King (NHL regular D+5, depth player)

Players developed but traded or otherwise lost

Jack Johnson (NHL regular D+3, impact D+5)
Wayne Simmonds (NHL regular D+2, impact D+3)

Players traded for/signed but developed elsewhere

Mike Richards (NHL regular D+3, impact D+4)
Jeff Carter (NHL regular D+3, impact D+3)
Jarret Stoll (NHL regular D+4, impact D+5)
Marian Gaborik (NHL regular D+1, impact D+1)
Justin Williams (NHL regular D+1, impact D+2)
Dustin Penner (undrafted, NHL regular at 24, impact at 25)

Mark Yannetti is full of shit on this point, and it's not even close. The championship teams did not have the 5&7 BS that he talks about.

He then tells us that "anyone taken outside of the Top 5 falls in the 5-7 year window" he says this and then proceeds less than 15 minutes later to say that Turcotte and Byfield are being slow cooked, Byfield and Turcotte were both taken inside the Top 5 and Turcotte was signed after his freshman season in what is universally considered one of the worst NCAA pulls ever, with both the team and the player saying the signing was to "get him to the NHL as quick as possible", ya sounds like a slowcook to me "Yack". Here he just owns himself and ofcourse not only crickets from Hoven, but a continued endorsement and pushing of the BS "Yack" spews on later shows.

In a previous podcast he talks about the 2019 draft and comparing the 2 players the Kings debated. His final reasoning is that they took the multi-tool player, using baseball and the 5 tool player as an example, saying Turcotte was a 4 tool player. Just completely missing the biggest issue, that in baseball when you are talking about 4 tool players, the tool they might be missing is speed or defense, not hitting. Turcotte's missing tool was offense, and it's always been offense, at every level he's played at the last 4 seasons. Just be honest with the fans, save us the cliches and BS excuses.

They say that Byfield is "right on track" despite not even being a C entering his 4th season. This contradicts what everyone involved with the Kings expected on draft night, from the GM "This greatly accelerates our rebuild" to just about every fan on this and other forums who had QB as the Kings #1 by the this season. The director of scouting and other members of this organization have created a total myth about what the expectations were for this player due to the failures to get an ROI expected of a #2 pick after 3 years. And these lies get pushed by the few media members willing to cover the team in any way. I mean, a guy like Steve Simmons is kind of an arrogant jerk, but wouldn't you love to hear Yannetti, Murray or Blake have to sit down for an hour and answer questions from someone like that? These guys have it so incredibly easy with the media situation with this team.

Oh and LMAO at Hoven, "this trade had nothing to do with Byfield and shouldn't be viewed that way"

Sure thing Mayor, had they drafted Stutzle I'm sure they would have still been in the market for PLD. Quite possibly the most ridiculous take the man has ever had, and the competition is quite intense.

Love it Herb! I personally don't get all the love Yannetti. Comes off as a major tool to me.

Yanetti is a snake oil salesman. Loves to say all the right things but never comes through.

Any person who tells you that PLD isn’t a result of Byfield is dishonest. Guarantee you if Byfield showed up and played C confidently there would be zero reason. Kings drafted three centers during the rebuild and NONE are playing center. Insanity.

Yannetti is the most mind numbingly loved person on here for reasons I can’t understand. Herby condensed it for me.

I like Yannetti, he's got a good head for drafting and he really knows his stuff. He also knows the intricacies of the draft and where they can take risks and where to move up.

But he's a used car salesman for sure, and he really doesn't have to be. Nothing wrong with saying that you expected a prospect to make an impact in year 2 or 3, but they are young and develop at different rates so it doesn't always work out that way. The irony is that Kings fans are a niche market and don't need to be fed a bunch of BS anyways. There aren't a bunch of casuals following the team, most are in tune with hockey and see right through this kind of crap. They would much rather see management take ownership of their moves, admit mistakes, and do what they can to improve the situation.

Yes.

I assume they'll do a 50/50 split.

If they both shit the bed they'll look to pick up another rando goalie somewhere.

Can't be worse than Cal/Quick.
Big Save Dave has entered the equation. Did Ritich and Talbot play together in Calgary?

In terms of the roster it’s not a bad assessment. Even if you don’t agree with it, it’s not an unreasonable position to take.
I find it highly unreasonable.
Those guys really think we are a contender in 2023-2024.

If this wouldn't be enough to call them delusional, they call PLD an established scorer, having multiple 20 goal seasons.
We have to face teams in our conference where guys have absolutely no problem scoring 40 or 50+ goals, not to mention 100+ points.

Our core players have proven that they can;t handle their roles even remotely.
How adding a mediocre player by trading away mediocre players suddenly turns us into a cup contender is far beyond me

TB is getting rid of all the guys that made them true contenders, and keeping the big money guys that choked against Columbus. They're not tearing things down, even though they're done winning Cups with that group.

Although they do have a chance to do something with Stamkos. The smart thing is trade him today, but they'll likely give him another contract if he wants to stick around.

He does knot say they are a contender. He mentioned steps towards becoming a contender, he mentioned the impact of goaltending upon a contender. He then asks….

“So, what about next season? Will it be one in which Los Angeles progresses from a playoff qualifier to Stanley Cup contender?”

That is NOT saying they are a contender.

Point was/is such a big part of that team. Getting him locked in, even at the expense of depth, was a no brainer.

Their team is still very very good, it is hard to keep a team together and win once they start making so much money. Paying over $10M in net is hard too.

Look to tampa's beast defense to keep them cup relevant for a while. Brayden point at 26 yo dont hurt either

It's going to be a long summer. Just wait until Spence starts in the AHL because with the short roster there's no space for him at the NHL level.

yup, honestly think Black is going to kill his trade value too.

Love spence but it maybe time to use him to move moore for a mid line LW making less than Moore.

Although, with Talbot now signed not sure what the point is in freeing cap up.

This board seems far different from what I see on Twitter. Hoven's stuff completely crafts the narrative for a large part of the fanbase, a portion of the fanbase I assume wasn't online bitching about the Kings in the 90s or even the 00's.

This isn't new though. Lombardi used Hammond. Cammalleri was basically character assassinated on there. The part about that--and even Rosen--was that there was still some semblance of journalistic integrity and some independence, highlighted most famously by the Williams/O'Sullivan trade "fiasco".

Now? LAKI is worthless and bloggers (i.e. super fans grateful for access), are now your "news" source. It's just a pulpit for Management and nobody dares bite the hand that feeds.

Sure. Aging expensive roster, 2 years from a Cup win, and just lost in 6 in the 1st rd. Basically where the Kings were in 2015 or so.

Top heavy teams getting older don't make Cup runs.
