Blake addressed this in yesterday's presser, it was planned and they've a plan as he discussed. 1 season of playing short of a 23 man roster at lease until the trade deadline. Good news is next year cap goes up and this works out.
Absolutely correct. GMs always head into the offseason thinking "We'll just play short of a full roster next season even after trading seven dudes prior to the draft". It's the same tried and true house buying strategy of buying more than you can afford, banking on a significant raise in 12 months and just skipping out on eating any food for two-three days a week until then.

I have often criticized him for not being the visionary of a GM he was sold as when they dumped Lombardi so I guess I have to give him credit now for bucking the trend that is a full roster.

Dude is my least favorite goalie. Ghost of the past. Toronto should have been his last shot.
I saw murray warming hp when he was in pittsburgh for a big game, recently after ciming back from an injury. The guy had this facial expression of complete agony. Like incredible physical pain. He looked like he could barely move.
I was like damn man, better find another line of work

If the whole point of the Walker/Peterson/Grans/2nd trade/Provorov trade was to clear room now just for two years of Gavrikov, one would think that they were serious about taking a run at it now.

Not being able to dress a full roster, having a mess in net, and making already weak areas weaker just to grab Dubois sure contradicts that line of thinking.

I wish it was possible to keep Korpisalo TBH. I think he played well enough to win and I would feel a lot more comfortable with someone of his age group and pedigree. Either that or make the tough call and deal Arvidsson and more for a legit #1 option. It is a mess, but I don't think the Kings can do what Vegas did and just go in with any goaltending option with a pulse.

I would be fine with that. Korpi had a .929 sv% for us in the regular season.

Yeah all that effort (picks, salary, etc.) for two years of Gav and we're going to utilize JAGs for the goalie on one of those years?!? If you are in the pool, then freaking drive in and swim some laps. Don't puZZy-foot it and hang waist deep in the shallow end.

Trading Arvi now hurts Kings depth since Iafallo gone. Korpisalo to be honest crap the bed in the playoffs and wants a big contract. Everyone needs to relax and see what happens on July 1st/ FA.

Can't be any weaker than the same team loses to the Oilers back to back seasons in the 1st round of the playoffs. Some of us saw the writing on the wall with the cap and 2 straight bounces in the first round vs the same team. Many in here were calling for playing the kids, here you go, you got your wish. Yes, it sucks that Iafallo and Vilardi had to go, it's a business unfortunately and many of us have seen hundreds of players go even Luc,Nichols Gretzky etc. It's going to be ok.

This, this is why people are allowed to be critical with the roster construction of this team

I am ok with trading assets for position of need. I just don't think PLD addresses LA main need, goaltending.

Even taking that away seemed like a lot to pay to get two inches bigger than Vilardi. I definitely could benefit from an extra two inches (who couldn't) but not worth it here. Especially considering the Jets were not supposed to have any leverage here.

After a couple days of thinking about this trade i am ok with it. Blake was having to trade one of Arvidsson or Iafallo due to cap space anyways. Blake risk losing 3 players to waviers and Kupari helped with that. Vilardi health was a concerned and needed a new contract. The 2nd round pick did suck but i like our center depth. I think Dubios was a need down the middle and Blake is constructing the team to compete in the playoffs and long term. Next year cap goes up and even more holes can be filled short and long term. Its a process that cant be done in two seasons. By the trade deadline Kings will have enough to trade for or bring up a 23rd player. The Kings last year were not a contender and barley a playoff caliber team, we all knew it. Yes they were a good regular season team. They lacked in many areas including down the middle, bottom 6 fwd and goaltending. This idea of rolling with 22 players instead of 23 isn't a huge deal with Ontario down the road.
