This is either a showcase or it's going to be JAD's last chance to stick as a King long-term.

I have always been a big fan of this guys game, from when he first played for the Kings as a teenager. I think the issue for him is he just got passed over by Lizotte, that was supposed to be his spot long-term and he just got beat out.
I think that's ignores the beginning-of-the-season context. JAD was waiver-exempt and Lizotte wasn't. And the fourth line didn't come together until ... December?

It was all about waiver exemption. I suppose you could make the argument that JAD didn't explode at the NHL to the point that it would make it impossible to give Lizotte a shot. But October 2021 Blake Lizotte wasn't the player we saw in February 2022.

What do you guys think about signing Kessel this offseason? He's signed at 6.8m right now and is a UFA. He's still serviceable. Could look good on Byfields wing and is only 34. Could get a bargain for him as he's in his latter years. Thoughts?
That guys Dad bod makes Ovechkin jealous. I don’t want a 34 year old beer keg expiring on me.

The Kings ae trying to make the playoffs and that means icing the best team possible. And it's very likely Lizotte would have still made the team as the 13th or 14th forward and wouldn't have hit waivers.

Plus, the same issues present itself next season with the Kings likely having the same four centers they are currently running with. And that doesn't even factor in Turcotte, Kupari and Vilardi as other natural centers being asked to convert to the wing. It's a massive logjam for a team that has big holes in other places that should probably be addressed with all these excess prospects who continue to lose value as they get older.

easy pass for me. Would rather have Vilardi, Fagemo, Madden or a plethora of other players up on the wing. Kupari comes to mind immediately too.

could definitely see that.
Also for all the Brown hate I could see him having a 20 goal year next year elsewhere.

I've been a guy that was okay with the idea of a one-year contract to Brown for a 4th line role with a ton of hitting but he's just been so bad for awhile now and we saw the same thing last year as the season wore on.

Guy has a ton of hard miles on him and he isn't a Corey Perry type offensive talent to keep hanging on. He only gets 20 goals next year if he is on a last place team getting 20 minutes a night and PP time.

The reason Brown is getting hate is because he can't do a single thing correctly and is taking a roster spot away from the many young kids we have. I highly doubt he could even put up 10 goals next year. Blake and Todd have to put the team first if they want to get into the playoffs. Scratch Brown and once we secure a spot, play him again.

I bolded the bullshit part of your post....

And he won't be hitting much of anything by consistently setting himself up to be the F3 on every line he has played on this year.

I think Brown has looked pretty bad all year and won’t defend him keeping his spot over a kid.

But the playoffs are another season. So if he shows well there, he’ll get offers in the summer.

Doubt Brown gets 10 goals This season.

I could see Brown going on a random PP heater honestly provided they stopped using him to make "option" plays.

YOu're paralyzing the guy by giving him three reads, let him just choose between "return pass to sender or take puck to net" and life will be better.

I wanted to write 5 but I thought that might be too harsh but at this point it's just realistic.

Very realis...oh wait..he has 6.....

Seriously, some of you are just brand new to the game, or no idea what you guys are watching....

Brown is nowhere NEAR the player he was.....simple fact, but on the same spectrum, he's NOWHERE NEAR, this level of stupidity that is being brought upon this board.....

Yeah it seems crazy to not put him in front of the net. Brown cannot make the type of passes that make a PP dangerous, he never really has been that type of player in his career so I'm not sure the logic in putting him there right now.

Well, they had him there, and it wasn't working, then they had put Arvidsson there, wasn't working, etc so they changed things up, who knows if it will work or not....

Is Rob paying you to defend him or something? $5.875 million dollars for 22 points in 51 games, blocking more deserved youngsters from playing, and fails the eye test in every possible metric. Please just stop it man. You're not convincing anyone.

WTF do I have to convince, a bunch of forum posters whose highest hockey achievement is playing beer league?

If "more deserved youngsters" can't outplay Brown and force them to make a decision...what does that tell you? Oh wait...I know, it tells you that Blake is on the beach with Robitialle and are great friends with Brown, and it's an old boys club yadda yadda bullshit yadda.....

Again, Brown is NOWHERE NEAR the player he was, and he is NOWHERE NEAR what people make him out to be on these boards...and I don't really care to convince anyone, though I would settle for all the bullshit whining about it to stop....

There are some posters who think if Brown was benched, LA would be 55-0, the PP would be 1st, and every youngster would be a rockstar.
There are some posters who think if Brown played 1st line, LA would be 55-0, the PP would be 1st, and every youngster would be worthless.

The truth is, Brown is playing 3rd line minutes, 2nd line PP, where he needs to be playing, can you use Byfield on the PP instead, sure....would it solve much, probably not....the truth is, LA is 2nd in the Pacific, far beyond what ANYONE thought they would be at this point in the season, and Brown is a part of that team who has accomplished that....deal with it.

It's easier to understand Brown's salary when you look at it as back pay and it's the last year of said backpay. I really expect him to retire. I can't imagine he'd want to try to play somewhere else and deal with all that shit at his age. He's not chasing any records and he's won two Cups.
