His hockey IQ is up there offensively, but not very good defensively.
He could be more physical and has serious questions about health of his knees.
He is not a bad player, but he is not worthy assets it will need to acquire him.

Serious health about his knees....based on what....an injury in 2018?

True, but a scenario where we have two goalies (albeit aging) that can steal games or even series is interesting to say the least. I’d say the odds of MAF flaming out suddenly is similar to Peterson suddenly becoming a solid #1, so if the cost is low, the risk is possibly worth it. Everyone is talking about trading for an LD or winger, but nothing about goalies, arguably our biggest hole.

There’s also the fact that finding a replacement for Cal isn’t going to be easy. There are probably 15 teams who would take him in a heartbeat over their current next-best young goalie. Regardless, I think 4.5M for 2 years isn’t worth it. Cap management is important and two goalies at that age for a total over $10M isn’t great, even if they have the pedigrees they do.

If we’re discussing trading Cal, it would need to be for a potential replacement who will be ready soon, which means someone already drafted and developing rather than a draft pick too. Tough sell if we’re selling low.

I’ll take these over those shiny thingys

Yea.....back in 2018, like I said.

Not so much just the knees, but overall. He's played about the same percentage of total games as Gaborik, if that tells you anything. He was out for a month already this year, upper body. A couple of years ago it was a hip I think. Then the two knees back to back, the shoulder before that. He's only played one full season in his career, and it was the shortened one.

It's a significant risk, when you see that many injuries there is a chance that something might be causing his body to overcompensate.

Laine is not signing for $7.5 million AAV.

It won't be much more than that. His qualifier is $6.75 mill and he'll likely only get a bridge deal given he's suddenly added a few question marks to his resume. I say 3 years/$22.5 mill

Let’s get weird: Fleury for Peterson +.

Resign Fleury for 2 years at 4.5? That gives us two veteran goalies and time to find a long term replacement for quick since it doesn’t seem like CP can take over.

Kupari and a pick?

Dumb idea?

If Fluery signs an extension as part of the trade, let's talk. That said, the market for goalies isn't that big and Chicago isn't going anywhere, plus they likely will want to do right by him and let him pick his destination, so I could see him moving for a 3rd and a depth prospect to the team of his choice.

It's a significant risk.

Four of the eleven he missed this year were due to covid protocols.

Chychrun's had some injuries sure, but he's missed 20 games in the past 2+ seasons (a possible 176 games) and 16 were due to an actual injury. Rob Blake had a lot of injuries in his career, especially early, that cost him a lot of games and he still had a long, long career. One of those was a believe a torn ACL too. The fact Chychrun has been healthier the last three years than he was the first three tells me he's likely done something to limit/avoid those outcomes in his style of play.

This year's numbers are a little misleading as he would have missed way more games, but with cancellations they only played 3 games in the 23 days after he got hurt He would have missed another 6 or 7 easily. So yeah he's healthier, but it's still notable that the dude is always hurt. Even if you take his healthiest streak you mentioned above, that's around 70 games per year. He's gotten hurt every single year but one, and I would bet that if last season was full he would have found a way to get injured then too.

I'm just not sold on Chychrun being the difference maker he's being talked up to be. One would expect his assist totals to be higher, he has the same amount as Lybushkin this season and he's supposed to be an offensive black hole. Impressed with 18 goals last season and 12 the season before. Everything else though, not impressed especially this season. He's getting outplayed nightly by Ghost and no one would trade 4 strong assets for Ghost. It's just not a slam dunk move to me.

Sometimes injuries are just bad luck.

Remember when the Kings traded for Justin Williams he was considered injury prone. And then his first year with the Kings he missed a ton of games. And then his final 4 seasons with the Kings he missed 1 game.

In the NFL, Keenan Allen missed 26 games in his first 4 seasons in the league and got the injury prone label. In the next 5 seasons he has missed a total of 2 games.

That being said, I'd still rather give up assets for a goal-scorer.

Yep, and that's a better argument,

1st, Vilardi and JAD for a goal scorer, or the same for a LHD....have to evaluate them separately etc

I'll pass on the yellow crown and the LA on the thigh, but otherwise I don't hate it. Here are some other concepts I've found that I don't hate:

And then obviously the GOAT:

Might have to update my avatar (after 14 years ), love the look of some of these.

I wonder what it would cost to actually have one of these made. I know most places wouldn't due to copyright infringement, but maybe you could have them make the entire jersey blank and then just add on the chest and shoulder crests separately.

You could probably have them made from China. A while back, I had a Lakers jersey with the Kings crown made and it was really cool. It's always a crapshoot on quality and sizing, but it's cheap enough to be worth the risk. As long as you aren't selling them you shouldn't have any issues.

Here are a couple random jerseys I found on AliExpress:

Chychrun is a good player, and quite possibly a great one. But he is a rather significant risk as well.

There's no doubt it's time for the Kings to start moving some of the logjam of forward prospects for age-appropriate help on the blueline. But at this point, you don't move that many blue chips prospects for a gamble, you move them for a sure thing. And as nice as Chychrun is and may yet be, he is most definitely not a sure thing.

If the asking price comes down, then the risk may be worth it.

Sure things aren't available. If they are, they'll likely cost what you don't want to give up.

No move worth doing is made without risk. Other than irrelevant ones. Which, is pretty much all we've seen in the league this season. Other than Vegas.

A hand injury and some strains and sprains are not the same as shoulder surgery and knee problems.
