I miss Edler, hope he comes back healthy and gets at least one more good season before going out on his own terms. He deserves at least that.

I have loved to hate Blake, but he really hit it out of the park with the off-season acquisitions -- and if Edler comes back in time for a possible playoff run, wow. Could Blake possibly be a candidate for GM of the year? HOLY ****.

I have to think he already is, if he makes a saavy deadline move he's practically a lock imo

Every one of those offseason moves has been absolutely nails

If Edler comes back, will he be as solid as he was? That's the concern.

I think Blake will still be looking for an Edler-type player he can acquire at the deadline for relatively cheap.

I like Gio, be everyone seems to think he's still worth a 1st round pick even as a 38 year old rental. Too rich for my blood, but it would make a Kings/Flames series even more intriguing.

We would be murdered.

Lucic, Zadorov, Gudbrandson, Ritchie, Tkachuk, etc.

Then you could include all the feisty forwards as well like Brad Richardson, Blake Coleman, etc.

A very successful summer - in particular the UFA signings have exceeded expectations. That rarely happens.

I don’t know the math, but how much capspace will the Kings have all the deadline? I know they can save space during the season and take on a contract that doesn’t normally fit.
Edit ok I looked it up
A quick look at the LA Kings salary cap heading into the trade deadline
8.6 mil

Frankly I think that's the best thing that could happen to this team and to the organization.

Getting punched in the mouth like that--literally and metaphorically--will show these kids exactly what the playoffs can take. They'd still be getting coached by Sutter in a roundabout way

That Flames squad is gonna take a pound of flesh out of anyone--whoever they lose to, much like the Sutter era Kings, is gonna be hobbled.

You're right, but what is a concern is his drop in play. For a guy who is know for offense, he has 2 more points than Lyubushkin, 2.

Ok, so we ARE judging players on a small sample size..... Using this logic, I think then you would be taking guys like Troy Terry and Andrew Mangiapane over M Tkachuk, Stamkos, Barkov, Aho, Svechinkov, because Terry and Mangiapane has outscored them all.....

Doughty is his muse.

I think we would get beat pretty badly. Unless Quick goes into .930+ save percentage playoff mode. Then we'd be in every game but still probably lose.

There'd be lots so storylines regardless.

I couldn’t agree more.

Nothing teaches quite like getting the shit mercilessly beat out of you.

At the very least, we may finally see a team identity start to form, or at least a complete spiral out of control until we try out another management team. No treading water after an ass whooping though.

We shouldn't sell the Kings completely short though.

MoneyPuck has LA ranked as the 10th best team in the NHL. By shot attempts, Kings are #2 in the league (Flames are #1). If you go by expected goal % EV, Kings are #7 (Flames are also #1 in this category).

What's holding the Kings back is poor goaltending (8th worst in the league), and special teams.

If a few things start clicking for the Kings, they could be quite good.
