I have this aregument in Canadiens Montreal board about Kopitar vs Carey Price. Everybody says Price was the best choice after Crosby, a better choice ahead of Kopitar, no habs fans woukd pick Kopitar instead of Price, except me. Here's a copy paste of my post :

"If I had to pick tomorrow between Price and Kopitar, I pick Kopitar. Kopitar is a great center Habs didn't have since Bobby Smith or Pete Mahovlich. If you have to built a winning team, make sure you have a top center. Because Habs replaced aging Koivu by Gomez and it costed McDonagh. Kopitar alone is better than Koivu and Gomez. Because Gomez became so bad, Desharnais became #1 C. Galchenyuk wasn't a quarter the player Kopitar was and the same with Eller.

The same year LA picked Kopitar, they picked a solid goalie on second round : Jonathan Quick. He won 2 SC and was the goalie of usa team. Pens had few first picks, they started with Fleury, they had Malkin but when they picked Crosby, that was the main piece. Crosby was by far the Stanley Cup factor in this team, not the goalie.

Would you prefer a team with Kopitar and an average goalie like Halak or Desharnais with Price?" - end of quote

*Desharnais was a no1 center for 3 or 4 years. A very small player who was a good playmaker but not much speed. A little check and he falled on the ice like a wet rag. Canadiens fans hated him. As a #1C he replaced Scott Gomez who dropped dramaticly in scoring goals (he took One year to score One goal and was paid 8M$). Canadiens drafted a so called skilled center, Alex Galchenyuk. Lot of potential but a below average skater and a party guy. He went on the nhl drug program and he was traded to 6 teams in 3 years. All this to say Canadiens Montreal have an hard time drafting a center. Centers dratfed by Monteal : Galchenyuk, McCarron, Poehling and Kotkaniemi are big flops, it's 18 years of scout Trevor Timmins who never drafted a valuable center. But Montreal fans still beleive picking Price over Kopitar was a good thing.

So what can you answer to Canadiens fans? Because you know Anze Kopitar. And you have Quick.

I can't.

Here's the thing - Kopitar is among my favorite Kings players all-time. I hoped the Kings would draft him before the lottery.

But there's no guarantee he would have worked out the same in Montreal or anywhere else.

His skillset is undeniable, but every conversation, interaction, and experience - events which help frame a young adult into honing their craft - would have been different. He would have had different teammates and different expectations. Which is the same for every player who enters the NHL.

I can't argue with Montreal fans that Kopitar would have been a better pick than Price. Both teams have had 17 years with a gifted franchise player.

Who knows? Maybe playing closer to home would have had Brulé be better than Price OR Kopitar? Maybe he would have worn better protective equipment to minimize his concussions.

I just think Montreal came out okay.

It's true trhat Montreal media and fans pressure destroy some players. Montreal developpment of players was really bad. Who knows top end players would have done in Montreal pressure? But PK Subban was better in Montreal than elsewhere, Brandan Gallagher became a solid winger on the first line and Carey Price did well.

It's my theory that a team start with a #1C, 2 top end D and the rest follows. 60% of winning Stanley Cups are won with an average goalie on an hot streak. But 95% Stanley Cups winning teams have a real top centerman.

LA Kings had Kopitar and Carter. Daughty was maybe even better in his position when the 2 Cups were won. And Quick was a top goalie.

Any way to watch today's game from San Jose?

Less than 5 hours left before puckdrop...

(I know that tomorrow's game from Vegas will be on NHL Network.)

I'm not taking a goalie over a SC winning (let alone 2) HOF center who's an annual selke contender, unless that goalie is soooo amazing over most anyone else and will single handily get you a SC win (& more) on his own effort alone. That kind of goalie is extremely rare -- and Price is not that guy. Whether that is Kopitar or some other #1 SC winning, selke center -- i'm taking that guy over Price every single time. Patrick Roy -- different story. Price -- nope,

Yeah I can't talk to Canadiens fans about it because of Kopitar bias but also because Carey Price is the most overrated goaltender of this generation.

Anyone know the lineup for San Jose tonight?

NOTE: Today’s projected lineup is subject to change, as a few lines had to be pieced together in a different manner than what coach Todd McLellan had been using the past few days. For example, Quinton Byfield and Arthur Kaliyev have been practicing / scrimmaging with Alex Iafallo. However, the latter is not expected to play tonight. Thus, that line needed a new winger.

LA Kings Projected Lineup vs San Jose Sharks

Ward – Byfield – Kaliyev
Andersson – Tynan – Chromiak
Lemieux – Lizotte – Grundstrom
Pinelli – Thomas – Madden

Nousiainen – Roy
Bjornfot – Clarke
Booth – Grans
Bisson

Quick
Villalta

The make-up sex between the two must be insane.

Don't make me add you to my ignore list.

They probably think he's better than Dominic Hasek. I'm just going to say thank God Montreal selected Price instead of Kopi.
