Im not sold Kings making the playoffs....even though the later games favor the Kings against weaker teams- the Sharks and Kraken both embarrased the Kings games this season not to mention the Ducks is a local rivalry game isnt going to be a laydown.

Really need Roy and Lemieux back and really sucks about Lizotte. Not sure Brown coming back counts as a difference maker per se.

It's actually insulting to the team if you think about it because the suggestion is that with better special teams we wouldn't be in an even better spot in the standings, given special teams alone has literally lost us more than a handful of points this year.

Kings would be easily winning the division if any one of the following were even close to league average--shooting, goaltending, special teams.

This guy gets it. They litterly lost games on the pp by not only not scoring , but giving up a shorty at the same time. 11 short handed goals against . How many more wins would we have if those 11 shorties given up ended up in the right net?

Since Kopitar signed his deal, McDavid has appeared in 21 playoff games and scored 22 points. His cap hit is crippling but he’s earning most of his money.
What does that have to do with anything. Let's get to your initial question:
How many cups do the kings have with Kopitar (McDavid) as captain and one of the highest paid players in the league?

Regarding the powerplay, there is simply no need to have more than one puck recovery specialist on a unit, especially on a 6 on 4 down a man in a game that could put you within a point of the division lead.

That's on McLellan. Benching Grundstrom and Kaliyev in the 3rd period of a crucial game when both had contributed to the score sheet is as well.

So everytime I read somebody talking him up for the Adams it's those decisions that make the suggestion hard to understand. The Kings have been moderately successful this year, and McLellan deserves praise for the record, but closer inspection shows a whole lot of dubious decisions that have done real harm to their chances.

There was no initial question. Just a statement of facts that’s seems to have confused the homers.

Totally...have to figure that would account for at least 4 pts in the standings minimally.

Except it wasn't mere unwillingness to impose his will. And I'm pretty sure you know that.

Again, the rhetoric and criticisms have been scaled back, but there have been many maligning comments over the past decade-plus. And I'd rather not get into specific examples. Mostly because I don't want to restart an argument.
Meh, I think that's pretty much the main criticism of Kopitar from me.

I don't think Kopitar is worth the contract he received from the Kings, at least from the Kings' perspective. He may have been worth it to another up and coming team at the time he signed it, but I think history has shown it wasn't the right move for the Kings as it has not resulted in any playoff success over the entire term of the contract thus far.

Again, I am not suggesting his overall individual performance as been quite good most seasons, but that isn't really the point of signing a player to an 8-year, $80 million deal now is it.

You overlooked a critical point though - Sutter did not have the same variety of offensive weapons that McLellan had.

Who would you have put out over Sutter's powerplay units?
Carter, Richards, Toffoli, Kopitar, Brown, Doughty, Martinez, Pearson, Voynov, Stoll, Gaborik.

And not all in their washed up version we currently think of.

Offense and the PP were and still are a criticism of Sutterhockey, yes. Flames fans will tell you this as well as complain that they are a one-line team.

What is so difficult about this?
No the logic is that why is Todd terrible because he can’t figure out the PP and keeps putting out the same personnel but yet Sutter did the same but isn’t considered terrible?

All coaches no matter how successful have their short comings, Bolts fan talked about Cooper until he won. Sutter wasn’t highly thought of until he won. Dodger fans were fed up with Roberts.

I mean maybe? But it not like the Kings traded anyone due to cap restraints right? And not being able to dip into to end GA’s might be an advantage…

So ultimately did it really cost the Kings anything? (Besides money) It’s pretty hard to say.

Just looking at our next 4 games we play McDavid and the Oilers (I'm not betting against the two best players in the world), Minnesota who loaded up big time at the deadline, Chicago who we just recently lost to, and then Colorado, the best team in the NHL.

It would not surprise me one bit to lose 5 in a row and miss the playoffs.

Sutter is the same guy who would put the lines in a blender in a moments notice. Todd doesn’t. And sutter didn’t have the talent that the Kings have right now. and also, sutter wasn’t a great coach for offense. Calgary is a one line team. Sutters ability isn’t coaching, it’s being a hard ass to make players perform/over-perform which is why he is a short shelf life coach.

Let’s not forget how bad the last couple years were with him at helm.

The boldfaced is you agreeing with me.

The first sentence is you thinking you're arguing with me.

Right, and you would be the guy leading the bitchfest that Sutter isn’t giving the guys ample time to ‘gel’. GTFO

Right. Sutter put the best players on the powerplay that he had.

The argument is that McLellan has better options than what he is putting out there, and he's unwilling or unable to change the personnel.
