The Kings didn't want to move Jokinen, it was Bettman who step in and said the deal wasn't fair enough with the islanders , so Taylor had to include him in the Palfy deal. Imagine him trying to do that today, with all the 5 players for 1 deals going down? I still can't believe he had the power to do that. As for Turcotte, he was drafted right where he was suppose to be, nobody could've predicted his injuries and various illnesses after being drafted, it's just bad luck. Same goes with the Avs pick in Byram, they couldn't have predicted his concussion issues .

Yeah, I do remember Ollie’s trade situation. But if you recall, there was so much talk of him not living up to expectations that when he was traded, no one on the “board that shall not be named” seemed to object too much, with the general attitude being that he was approaching being a bust based on where he was picked.
I get frustrated when I see posts on here that he’s not the next “pick a star” I think the kid showed tonight that he’s a keeper and a gamer and we should show a little patience as he’s just growing into that body! I also loved seeing Kupari finally showing the skill set we were told he had!
Now let’s go Gabe!!

Have you ever met a 6'4"+ teenager that plays a high-conditioning sport like soccer or hockey? It's hard as shit to keep weight on at that age.
Guys like Byfield have to be on a nutrition program. I can't imagine the number of calories he'd have to eat to put on weight. He's probably being told to eat every waking minute he's not on the ice or in the bathroom.

Can confirm that the bathroom time is significant while on that type of diet plan.

Sometimes consumption & evacuation can overlap, in the darker times.

Once the coaches who are teaching the defensemen how to box out opponents on the puck teach Byfield, look out. He's already routinely beating players in short area races to the puck. You can see that some players are unaware that he doesn't know how to use his size yet and they pull up rather than crash into the puck with him at speed. All of the young defensemen are very good at this. Bjornfot especially. Leads with his lower body and just leverages dudes off the puck and pins them away from the puck. Anderson, Durzi, and now Spence as well. Is Matt Greene and Sean O'Donnell teaching these kids or what? Good job to whoever is.

Trevor Moore with 34 points in 34 games in 2022 is a revelation. And another year at 1.9m cap. I wonder what him retained to 1m would get in a trade.

Yep, you do not trade a Moore, his trajectory is going up and up. Low-cost point producers are exactly what you need to balance the highly paid players. Moore was a revelation LAST season. All he's done is continually get better. He did great in the World Championships as well. The main problem with Moore early on this season is that anyone who was tossed together on that 3rd line didn't produce. It was TMc's cast-off/try stuff line for most of the season, so I don't blame Moore for not putting up points when it's been a revolving door of players in and out of the lineup.

It’ll be interesting to see if Blake tries to extend Moore this offseason. He’ll be a UFA after 22-23, and he’ll be 28 years old. That’ll likely be his only chance to cash in after how he’s played this year (and hopefully will continue to do so next year). I could sadly see him have to be let go with what he’ll be looking for, but we’ll see. At this point I’d like to see Iafallo dealt as part of a deal for a LD this summer, let another kid take his spot, and then shuttle some of that money to Moore to extend him.

Except that by the time the Kings are contenders he won't be on that contract anymore, so you may as well get supreme value In a trade for him now, unless he plans to sign another sweety pie deal.

Huh?

I totally agree. The goal shouldn't be to win with great value players but accumulate more prospects.

You're missing my point. I don't think the Kings will be legitimate contenders this year or next year. And moore won't be on this contract after next year, so you could acquire significant value for him this summer that will help once they are actually contenders, as opposed to him who could be making 5m+ on his next contract if he stays at this pace.

Or maybe the Kings will be contenders this and next year, in which case, yes, they should keep him. I just don't believe they are

If they make the playoffs, contender or not, they're not getting rid of him for some perceived value. This is pro sports. It's hard to make the playoffs. It's hard to find prodictive takent. Arch Master DL wasn't going to get rid of Smyth until he wanted out, and Richards became available. Look what he did in SJ; just a team that made the playoffs every year. He threw in a Selanne once in a while, but just a boring ass team that went to the playoffs. Same would've happened to the Kings. Same coach that couldn't win was brought in too. Until some switch was flicked, and they damn near went undefeated in the playoffs.

If Moore keeps producing, they'll pay him, and figure out the rest of the team later.

It is nice to see some other young players panning out like Moore and Lizzotte. It may help soften the blow with our top prospects potentially being busts. Hopefully the next wave of prospects from our 2021 draft can also be good finds.

I didn't miss anything.

2 Observations:

1. I hope we see this kind of sustained effort from Kupari. He was such as beast last night and easily one of the best players on the ice. I'm absolutely loving the Kupari/Byfield/Vilardi line and hope they can keep it up. It's exactly what this team needed to inject some offense.

2. I'm very impressed with how seamlessly Spence has fit into this roster. He hasn't skipped a beat and is putting up big minutes. High praise for him and his future here.

The Kings are going to have some very difficult decisions to make soon. Which D gets benched when others come back healthy? I can't believe i'm saying this, but I wouldn't mind seeing Maatta back at the right number. He has really settled down into a role on this team and you can see the confidence has gone up as a result.

Or on the other hand, the Kings will need to give up less kiddos in a trade because they’ve produced at the NHL…

Blake and Co. are definitely going to have some hard decisions that will most likely need to be made in the offseason. Not all of these kids are going to make it. Either we trade some for additional draft picks or make a bigger swing for the right player. Maybe a combination of the two.
