As far as the young RHD go, Clarke is still the dude until he proves otherwise but Spence is they guy based on what he's done since being drafted. Better body of work when comparing him to Durzi when you compare them at the same age. Spence immediately crushed AHL hockey and is looking very good in his limited NHL time so far. Durzi has a swagger and competitiveness that gives him that intangibles importance: you need guys like this on winning teams.

You have to give to get but I would hate to move either guy.

Moverare is slow as molasses, but he never seems to be on the wrong side of the puck. Positionally very smart to make up for his lack of speed. In 10 games he's been on the ice for 1 even strength goal against, 5 for. No bueno on the PK, though. I'm not sure he wouldn't make it through waivers, but probably not a huge loss given the depth back there.
There's no roster limit after the trade deadline, so there's no need to put him on waivers and risk losing him for nothing.
Certainly, there will be some decisions to be made before next season starts.

Everything we've seen and heard so far from Blake says he will use the ability to move a rookie up and down from Ontario until the tires on the bus wear out. Almost sure thing Spence will go to Ontario when the Kings run out of room. Spence would absolutely have to explode ala Makar to stay on the team in April.
Not saying you’re wrong, but I will riot if I have to watch Hakuna f***ing Maattaa over Spence.

How did Spence slip to the 4th round.. he's so polished looking already - that seems like it would have hit the scout radar.

He’s definitely been better but still. Between him and Spence it’s a no brainer. Unfortunately our coach has no brain.
Don't you think that size is something the Kings lack? Spence is great and he should be utilized and with all of the injuries, he will be, but we need size. We'll get destroyed in the playoffs if we don't have size. Every bigger team we've played has exposed our weakness which is size.

Let's not forget that Olli Maatta has done this:

and has a stat line of 78 games played, 5 goals, 27 points, and +28 in the playoffs.

If you think Maatta will be on the bench in a month, think again.

Hes been playing really well lately and he always elevates his game in the playoffs. He has earned a spot after turning it around as the 7th dman. Spence is great also though and theres a lot of games left for players to slot into their place.

Let's just go with 6 RHD in two seasons

Doughty Clarke Spence Durzi Roy Faber

I'm not sure if you're half-joking or completely serious but there's this urge to move guys simply because of LHD-RHD ideal slotting and I'm just not on board with coughing up, say, Durzi just because there are other RHDs. If those are your best 6, keep them and move Bjornfot or Anderson, or both for a monster like Chabot or something. Keep the BPAs

I am likely Roy's biggest fan, I think the only one that had in in our top 5 prospect voting. But honestly, the correct answer seems to be taking Doughty off the PP and using him with a few less minutes on the shutdown pairing with Anderson, letting Spence and Durzi run the units. Of course, that would require bossing a Cup vet.

I am sure Roy could bring back a solid return with a number of teams bidding for him. Walker is in a rough spot and will likely be the 7th defenseman as he will need a long time to catch up even once he is cleared. Can't imagine there will be any market for him at all until he proves himself.

Seider is so darn good.

I'd move Byfield + / Clarke + for him in a heartbeat.

Not a chance in hell that Detroit moves on from Seider, even if we combined Byfield and Clarke. You have to give Stevie Y credit, he has taken a lot of heat from the analystics community(which might as well be the traditional media at this point, haha) over his draft picks and so far they are panning out pretty damn well.

Size only matters if you use it. I feel like I can count the number of physical plays Mattaa has made with my dick. Not like it matters, he’s probably gonna play no matter what but it would be nice if coaches didn’t stick to the same old bullshit formulas every now and then.
