A month ago I'd say the majority opinion on these boards was that the playoffs would be found money, and that we should stay the course at the deadline unless we could add extra depth for cheap or make a deal to add to our core (a la Chychrun or Garland). Then, the team went through a rough patch mainly due to injuries piling up out of nowhere. The cheap deals weren't there with how many buyers there were this year, and prices for players like Chychrun and Garland were also inflated as a result. I don't think we even add Stetcher if we weren't dealing with injuries, and we did it basically for free.
Bottom line, it sucks that we're in a skid, but this team has shown much more than most of us anticipated this summer. If we miss the playoffs, yes, it could be a huge blow to team morale, but I think it's even more likely that it would leave the majority of this team even hungrier next year. There's also the draft, free agency, and the potential for trades in the summer to further improve this roster.
