I remember that too, had to be a couple of weeks. He did it twice! And we've all been left wondering where's that guy...that's the assertiveness we love

Yep,, thats what everyone needs to do....it's a tougher sled to do it, but it opens up all sorts of shit when you do

For what it's worth, Danault/Kempe and then Lizotte/Moore were sent out to kill the remainder of that major penalty in the 2nd period. Both those PK tandems are superior statistically to Kopi/Iaffalo. Hell, Lizotte and Moore almost scored on the kill. That combo is responsible for most of the Kings shorthanded scoring and have a ridiculous Corsi for rating as penalty killers. They generate shorthanded chances better than any other tandem. 2 fast high energy guys. Not a coincidence.

Hope they bring back the Kempe - Byfield - Kaliyev line for the rest of the roadtrip to see if it can stick. Looked like they could do some damage together.

Wow the number of words to dissect Kopitar's game last night is simply amazing. Sometimes a player does something crazy and obviously stupid and we just shrug our shoulders (looking at you Brendan Lemieux). Sometimes an opponent does something really clever and awesome on the power play and we eat Kopitar's dog alive for not him seeing the future and doing everything stopping the play before it happens like a precog. I mean, we could have spent the same number of words marveling at how good that play was by Adam Fox. That was positively Karlssonian. The smart footwork, fake shot, all that stuff. Like if Durzi had done the same thing we'd be ejaculating all over the keyboard.

We're all so accustomed to Kopitar's robotic defense and his two Selke trophies that we'll spend pages upon pages nitpicking shit like this. Great players make great plays that result in goals. That's why you watch the game right? Or do you wish for 0-0 ties?

It's not rocket science.

It was a great play by Fox.

The amount of great plays happening in Kopitar's face is disproportionately high resulting in a shitty on ice goals for goals against differential for him.

There, saved you reading so many words.

It's gonna get REALLY bad if we lose to Detroit and have two weeks off!

First Kopitar does NOT put Fox to the outside.

Do you even understand what "outside" means here? Fox makes that pass from the goddam dot because he has all the time he wants to easily WALK Kopitar and delay to draw Maatta out.

And this is all window dressing because you keep missing the point.

Kopitar is too old to play this many minutes. He gets frozen on the fake shot then does not keep the pointman outside, he lets him glide right into a much, much more dangerous spot.

There are less than 5 seconds left in the period, all you have to do is delay that play. Its the most dangerous pointman in the league, Anze knows he is going to try and make a play but he lets him drift right around him INSIDE the circle.

Does he do so because he doesn't understand whats happening? Does he let that happen because he is lazy?

Hell no. It happened because he is older, tired and less mobile than before. Its because he plays too many minutes in too many taxing situations.

The rest of your take is so fundamentally poor that it doesn't deserve a response. And I am tired of arguing with someone who is so aggressively ignorant of simple, basic hockey. Someone who can't form a cohesive argument. I am blocking you now because whatever drivel you type out isn't worth my time to read.

This is such a beautiful, intricate, complicated game. I hope you learn how its played one day.
I’m seeing Kopitar forcing Fox outside. That is Kopitars job. The inside stuff has nothing to do with Kopi here.

I keep seeing people claim that play was “outside”, and I guess I just don’t understand why.

Every level of competitive hockey I have ever played, coaches have always considered the prime area of scoring opportunity to be from dot to dot in the offensive zone.

Kopitar didn’t push him “outside”, fox made that pass from just outside the face off dot. I would love to see kings players be able to gain that portion of the ice with any sort of consistency on the PP.

It was a skill play from a great player, but it does go to show how literally Kopitar has lost a step, as he used to be able to contest that play much more tightly. He is a mighty fine 5 on 5 & PP player still, but his foot speed is killing him short handed.

Minnesota is playing Boldy and Rossi 17:05 and 15:35 per night. With heavy PP time.

I'm all for bringing prospects along conservatively, but it's pretty clear Byfield can handle more minutes, and that some of our older players are lacking energy due to excessive TOI.

Look where Fox was...when he made that pass, outside and below that dot, that is an absolutely BRUTAL place to shoot from, EVERYONE saw pass coming, shit the peanut vendor and organist were yelling watch the pass, watch the pass.....

And the two Dman, fell front face going...what pass...what pass.....

And you have idiotic takes saying, well Kopi screwed up....

As to your point that Kopi 3 years ago gets to him, I already conceded that I have no idea, but if Fox is a great player and made a great skill play, I tend to think it's 50-50 right?

You have your eyes so focused on the last domino to fall, that you absolutely cannot see the first one.

You can argue whose at “fault” there all you want, but we aren’t even having this conversation if that is Lizotte or Moore on that coverage up high. Kopi letting fox in that tight is the first domino to fall in that particular breakdown.

Nobody is saying Kopitar isn’t an effective player anymore, only that his ice time should not be on the PK, at all.

And you know who those Minny kids are lining up with at even strength? Fiala, Fredrick Gaudreau, Marcus Foligno, Ryan Hartman and Zuccarello. Actual good players. Can't be bothered to do that here for more than a period or a handful of shifts.

LOL I have no words that kind of idiocy......

Look at how the play started, Kopi was the outside guy, with Iafallo on Panarin....when the pass was made, Fox was ALREADY on the inside....nothing Kopitar is gonna do about that, and he still pushes him to the outside,

I mean f***, again, your argument as a whole, Kopitar shouldnt have that much TOI, or on the PK, ok fine, but you weaken the hell out of it when you pull bullshit like this out of your ass to try and support that position.

I gotta be looking at something wrong,

I show Rossi playing 2 games.....at an average of 8 min TOI,

I show Boldy playing 7 games, at an average of 16 min, and I show Boldy playing with Fiala and Gaudreau....and anyone saying Gaudreau is top 6.....has to have something checked out....

Nope, just call asinine shit, asinine shit....though I have found most people dont like that.....don't care.

Bring a good argument to back up what you want, and sure, but using bullshit to back up, I'm gonna call it bullshit,

I mean hell you literally in the same post, say I don't see Kopitar pushing Fox Outside, then literally say Kopitar didn't push Fox outside, Fox made that pass from outside the dot.....

Seriously?

agree with giving QB more minutes. Vets of other clubs have said how playing with younger guys has lit a spark under them...that could be here.

The Kings are on the road on the East Coast until Feb. 3rd

The Reign traveled today and play in San Jose tomorrow and Thursday and Stockton on Saturday.

Right, I was referencing that. Last night in...some thread?...I had mentioned it seems like a waste to have almost exactly those players just sitting on the bench until the NHL break with Reign games going on before and during, but I expected them to get reign games in over those two weeks. This is just them going back even sooner--which is good! They got to see NYC with the team, play a few games, and practice, but they could use the big minutes over sitting around for another 14 days.

With Fox's caliber of skill, do you honestly think Lizotte, Moore, etc would have handled that better?

Kopitar literally gave Fox two viable options: backhand the pass off the board to the supporting Ranger or pass it into the slot. The slot should have been covered better.

I don't even think Kopitar needs to be taken off the PK. I think the time needs to be reduced by virtue of it naturally wearing him down. He just needs to reduce his time as a whole so it doesn't continue to wear him down over time.
