Only if the top line is composed of two kids and Fiala
I think we might see a little of it this season by accident.. I also don’t think Todd survives the seasonFiala-Byfield-Vilardi could be a seriously dangerous first line as soon as next year.
Which means Blake and Todd will make sure it won’t happen.
So, Chychrun or Kaliyev on the PP?
Blake has a running, 2 year history of resigning one he should have passed on. AA, after a pretty MEH year, is resigned to a 270% raise???? like 1 million to 2.7 mil? Should have let him walk. Then Edler was a good signing...but was not quite the same after ankle break...although valiant to return. That does not mean you resign him. There could have been better options. So, with Quick and Lemieux being the only UFA...is he signing either? It's time to let Quick retire or go. Lemieux? Depends if he plays well (or at all) the remaining part of year. He's not been the same, since his opeing month last season, where they were something like 7-0 with him. Please don't jinx it..... i beg you
I don't see any of those reasons as being big screw ups. His mistake is his philosophy on development of players. He has actually done well with trades and acquiring key players, ie Danault, Moore, Durzi. If Byfield comes in here and tears it up I will be impressed with Blake, especially if we can get Vilardi going.Blake f***ed up an entire rebuild. Trade Toffoli and immediately spend as many assets plus more on Arvidsson and Fiala. Keeping legacy players as the core. Not playing any of the 3 top 10 picks in the lineup.
Doubling down on mediocre players like Walker Roy Edler.
Just a completely mishandled rebuild. All because Doughty cried to the media about not wanting to go through it?
All of those moves have to do with development because its basically blocking players from playing in the NHL and getting minutes/experience.I don't see any of those reasons as being big screw ups. For some reason I thought he was only signed through next year. 2.5 years isn't too bad, but still not ideal IMO.I would say that Chychrun is a much more advantageous contract situation. 2.5 seasons at 4.6 million for a top pair defenseman is fantastic, when Fiala was traded he didn't even have a contract.
Here’s another option.

I’d rather extend Cal another three years than take on OEL.So add a 2nd & Madden to the Chychrun offer?
Edit: was thinking something like Roy & Kempe for Horvat +. Kopi, Danault, Horvat to Byfield Danault, Horvat.
Also Cal for OEL at 5M might not be terrible. Other D I like first, but freeing up Cal's contract to someone who at least fills a need is something.
Doughty isn't doing great on transition & offense right now. Looking forward a season or 2 an offensive D could fit nicely.Kings arent looking for an offensive defenseman here. Not Chychrun, not QHughes.
We have two offensive defensemen we cant play in Clarke and Spence.
We need a LHD who can play in the top 4, a guy who can shut things down and bring some truculence and grit.
Nice lexicon! .. word of the day for sureWe need a LHD who can play in the top 4, a guy who can shut things down and bring some truculence and grit.
Partied with two Philly fans last night. They are both willing to give us Provorov for free. They said we should probably watch the Flyers this year before we think about him as he has been horrible and keeps getting worse. They did concede that he would probably make a great #3 with reduced minutes and easier assignments but neither thought he belonged on the 1st pairing with Doughty,Doughty isn't doing great on transition & offense right now. Provorov, Doughty
Mikey, Clarke
Björnfot, Spence
Mikey, Doughty
Gavrikov, Clarke
Björnfot, Spence
This might be cheaper both with regards to cap & assets. Adding an offensive D would lead to a more dynamic defense, while actual defending would be better with a shutdown guy. It'll come down to who is available at what price.
We don’t need Provorov to be a #1 LD. We need him to be better than Edler and Durzi on his off side.Partied with two Philly fans last night. They are both willing to give us Provorov for free. I loved Provorov in Brandon and he looked like he was on the right track early in the NHL but the shine is wearing off quickly. I would hope that he and Doughty would boost each others game but the two Philly fans were skeptical at best.
Not much out there for Left shot talent these days.

Anderson - Doughty
Provorov - Spence
Bjornfot - Roy/Durzi
Our offense is (shockingly) so good that we just need league-average defense and goaltending to be a legitimate threat in the playoffs.
And this is absolutely not the way to do a rebuild, because make no doubt we are still building. That defense is good but still doesn’t solve our goaltending situation.Top pairing dman vs PPG winger? I think the Dman is likely harder to find and less-available. I don't think they're out of line at all for asking 3 first-equivalent assets for Chychrun. I just don't think it's necessarily worth the gamble unless you're renovating the D to add one more as @kilowatt said above, and his injury history is absolutely a gamble. I think if you can get them to bite on some conditional picks and/or gamble prospects it's more palatable.
That being said, if the Kings end up rolling something like Doughty-Chychrun, Anderson-Spence, Gavrikov-Clarke (Durzi, Walker) it's almost worth it to move a lot of assets not named Byfield or Clarke. I'd like to think not even Todd could f*** that up.
There aren't spots for everyone that's for sure, I'm high on Turcotte but I think he'd have to be made avaialble as would Fagemo, Thomas, Madden, Chromiak, any and all of those guys are relatively 'B' prospects in a Chychrun trade.

You’ve also just traded away all our potential future depth to build a team that is maybe good enough to win 2 rounds.. maybe..
The biggest need to is to open spots for Spence, Clarke and Bjornfot.. Trade who you need to make that happen..
Give Byfield another 10-15 games to keep up his play in the A and then call him up. If his production in Ontario keeps pace then that alone is the equivalent of a TDL acquisition.
This is literally what we argued about before last season, how even with the acquisitions of Arvy and PD we need to continue to build. But we got a taste of the playoffs and you guys all act like this team is a contender?
But even worse would trade the future for what? A low tier playoff team?
