I personally don’t think he’s the right solution and the injuries definitely play a part in his value. They will probably be asking for Byfield, Spence or Clarke so it definitely not an option as far as I’m concerned. If we were potentially contenders it’s a different discussion but he’s not putting us over the top. We’d still be short of a #1 netminder and would still need to trade for a physical D-Man.

We would be giving up too much trade capital to end up with the same holes on the roster.
I don’t think the Kings have to give up those players for an attractive package. Kings have a lot of RD and Forwards they can move even picks

I tend to agree but I’m basing that on the consensus of what the asking price is. They’re asking far too much though which is why he’s still there. However, as I say I do not think he’s the right type of player.

According to many Kings fans they don’t want to take a chance at him because of his injuries but they also want someone good for a reasonable price.
No, most Kings fans know that scoring isn’t the problem.. what this team lacks is size, physicality and toughness, which a guy like Govrikov brings.. but I don’t think we pay the ask price for either so we need to pull a rabbit outta the hat

The Kings don't have to give up a lot to get a quality guy. The Caps traded a third round pick to get their top LD near the trade deadline in 2018. Kempny was 27 years old and was making under $1 mil.

It's pretty wild how things change quickly. The past few years, we've been desperate for a offensive Dman -- puck moving guy who can score and be a top PP guy. But that's no longer the case. We have plenty of offense. We have plenty of PP / PM guys in DD, Durzi, Spence, etc. What we really need is more simple and should be easier to acquire assets wise: a true LHD side guy who has some size/physicality and can get the puck out of our own zone. We have plenty of assets and valuable RHD who teams should desire. We don't need a JC from AZ. Just a basic, defensive minded LHD with size. I'm fine with limited or no offense from the guy.

For Goalie: idk we might be screwed. This summer we need to find an answer though. Maybe there's a top college goalie type who sees the opening here this spring/summer and signs. Maybe we draft a guy #1 -- but that will take a lot of development time. Maybe we can find a team loaded with goalie prospects. Gonna be tough.

If Petersen can get his confidence and therefore his technique back we can potentially get some decent goaltending - I’d be giving until Jan in the AHL. Not expecting championship caliber at this point but he’s demonstrated an ability in the past to be solid. The issues are absolutely between his ears, so if they solve that we can possibly wait until the summer. It’s a coin flip scenario at best though.

I don’t see Gavrikov/Chychrun as an either/or. Let’s acquire both of them.

Chychrun - Doughty
Anderson - Spence
Gavrikov - Clarke

Play Clarke and Chychrun on the power plays and Doughty, Anderson, Gavrikov, and Spence on the penalty kills.

Trade Bjornfot, Roy, and Durzi. That’s one hell of a defense.

I will be extremely mad if the Kings are not going for Erik Portillo.
He is a 6'6 goalie with extreme potential currently rated as a the top 10 goalie prospect in the NHL.
He announced that he will not sign with the Sabres and can be had for cheap.

Not just that he won absolutely everything winnable as a kid, he came in as a college sophomore, and just grabbed the job and a 50 games game starting streak before sickness.

The Sabres fans indicated that even Walker would be enough.

Blackhole

He has somehow got this one dimensional rep.

Funny thing is aside from QB and Clarke many of the current prospects likely have no spots in LA.

Spence has a shit ton of guys ahead of him.

JAD, Madden, Kupari, Thomas, Fagemo, even Turcotte are all expendable.

Can’t horde these guys forever. They have all become fillers and injury call ups with fourth line spot duty. Non of them are real fourth liners.

Some of these guys need to be cleared out.

Some Yotes fans are asking for Byfield, Spence a 1st and someone like Fagemo for Chychrun alone. I’m not even high on Byfield and thats ridiculous to me.

Kings could easily miss the PO's this year, that makes trading away our 1st rounder very risky IMO.

Does Chych have more value than Fiala? The latter cost two first round equivalent assets. But Coyotes want 3 for Chychrun?

The problem is that’s it’s not crazy to take the view that the other RHD on the roster, other than Doughty, are only ahead of him due to waiver/contract status. If we wanted to include Spence in an hypothetical deal I’m sure they’d probably have it done by now because of the excess in forward prospects. Spence would definitely be considered a 1st round equivalent talent at this stage.

Spence is easily the 2nd best D in the organization at the moment.

Top pairing dman vs PPG winger? I think the Dman is likely harder to find and less-available. I don't think they're out of line at all for asking 3 first-equivalent assets for Chychrun. I just don't think it's necessarily worth the gamble unless you're renovating the D to add one more as @kilowatt said above, and his injury history is absolutely a gamble. I think if you can get them to bite on some conditional picks and/or gamble prospects it's more palatable.

That being said, if the Kings end up rolling something like Doughty-Chychrun, Anderson-Spence, Gavrikov-Clarke (Durzi, Walker) it's almost worth it to move a lot of assets not named Byfield or Clarke. I'd like to think not even Todd could f*** that up.

There aren't spots for everyone that's for sure, I'm high on Turcotte but I think he'd have to be made avaialble as would Fagemo, Thomas, Madden, Chromiak, any and all of those guys are relatively 'B' prospects in a Chychrun trade.

That’s a big part of the issue here. I’m not convinced Arvidsson and especially Kopitar are leaving after their contracts are up. We have young guys knocking on the door but we also have a lot of guys on long term contracts.

Even if we let Arvidsson walk, our top nine in three years might look like:

Fiala - Byfield - Kaliyev
Moore - Danault - Vilardi
Iafallo - Kopitar - Kempe

Sure we might move one of those guys, but what if we don’t? Where do the following guys play: Turcotte, Kupari, Madden, Fagemo, Thomas, JAD? All of these guys lose their waiver exemptions in the next one to two years. That’s not even mentioning all of the right-shot defensemen nor the guys we haven’t signed yet, nor does it include potential free agent signings.

We have a lot of players that still have some value with no where to play.

We should trade some of these guys either for future picks or for help right now.

But that winger is in a much more advantageous contract situation, and doesn't have the injury history.

You get injury prone Chych for 1.5 seasons.

Chych shouldn't be worth more all things considered IMO. If AZ could get a 1st+Faber type return, I think they'll have to take it.

Dead on, except we bolster in goal now. I won't repeat myself here more than that.

Its not worth making a big move like acquiring Chickenrun unless you feel you are a contender. The Yotes will either continue to ask too much or a true contender would be the most likely to fund the overpay necessary to get him.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing in his favor here, nor do I want the Kings to pursue him at those prices. But the cost controlled high end two-way D is a rarity and they're not wild to be asking for 3 assets. Whether they land there? I'm not sure. Leafs or something desperate may just do it.

Sexy Was just thinking the exact thing. It would cost but one would hope that Durzi, Bjornfot and Roy would take a big bite out of the cost. Plus our goalies may not be the greatest but that Defence will may them a whole lot better.

We are also very overstocked on wing.

I would say that Chychrun is a much more advantageous contract situation. 2.5 seasons at 4.6 million for a top pair defenseman is fantastic, when Fiala was traded he didn't even have a contract.

2.5 seasons left and remember his dad played here and spoke glowingly about it last year. From all accounts Jacob is a beast in the gym and hopefully has put injuries behind him.

It is a huge gamble yes. But on any given day any player could get hurt and I wouldn’t hesitate trading for Chychrun. Looking at his skating upon his return that knee isn’t bugging him and with Brown out of the league not many guys hunt knees of Coyotes anymore 😜
