Just saw Jack Hughes entered the transfer portal, still not a fan of that pick.
Who knows if he pans out or not, but I’m not going to hold his transfer against him. Did anyone hear if he gave a reason for him wanting to move? I’d hate to speculate without knowing more about how he came to this decision. I hope he moves somewhere he’s happy and can continue his development.

I wanted Lane Hutson at the time of the pick. His talent jumps off the tape too. Really a misfire to take another middling forward with that pick when BPA AND position of need were both LD:

Going to have to eat some salary to move Cal and probably one of our mid to low prospects along with him. I can't see Blake paying a guy 5 mil to play in the AHL .
Assuming he's not our backup. Couldn't the Kings eat say $2-3M each year and offer Cal up that way in a trade? I'd have to think another team would be interested in taking Cal at $2M/year for two years as their backup. We get hit with $3M for next two seasons, but that's better than a buy-out, etc.

Yeah I thought with that pick you swing for the home run. My 2 were Huston and Trikozov.
Yep, the Canes draft very well and seem to utilize NHLe heavily. Should be noted that the Kings employ the guy who invented the metric (Rob Vollman).

Why would anyone be interested in him at 2mil?

He was outperformed by a journeyman on a sub-million dollar contract. He is less than worthless at anything beyond an AHL deal at this point.

Buyout is the better way to go, but wait one season. He costs is 3.875 next season to bury and then,,,

Everytime I bump into Rob at the office I beg him to come on the podcast.

But he won't.

But he's great. Really great.

Yeah, seems like a good dude. I would LOVE to know how far private analytics have developed, I'm sure he's (and others of course as well) come a long way since the publicly facing ones without proprietary data. Though I'm not sure there's a way to do that without trade secrets anyway. All the stuff we play with (read: bicker about) is so surface level.

Nice chart and stats, thanks! 148 lbs, Jesus Christ. 3% probability, Jesus Christ. Both have great obstacles. Would of stayed away from both (in the 2nd round).

Amadio and Wolanin were both waived, unclaimed, then traded for one another.
Wolanin. There's another decent comp for Walker. Except Walker has more than triple the cap hit.

By the logic of some posters around here, that should mean Wolanin is worth a 2nd round pick.

Hughes had a terrible season, no way to sugarcoat it, for a 2nd round pick you expect a lot more as a sophomore player. You just have to hope he can transfer somewhere else and find his game. But it's certainly looking like an awful pick at this point.

Well, if he were draft eligible this season Hutson would be 100% going in the 1st round, so staying away from him in the 2nd probably wasn't a very wise move.
