You are gonna be absolutely stunned by his trade value when this is all done.
The center market is dreadful, only need 1 team that thinks he can get back to 1c, and at worse he is a 2c, with a massive rising cap market.
I won't be stunned.
People can offer whatever they want, it's just not from L.A.
The rising cap is also irrelevant for the fact that he is insanely overpaid

A 60+ point center for $11 Mil is the last thing we need.
If someone asks me, just keep him and hope for a miracle.

The Canucks try to trade him since a long time and he is still a Canuck, this should tell you something

Completely new regime

Huberdeau also had 100+ "recently".

Huberdeau's 100+ pt season was further back than Petterssons, he was also like 29 when he hit 100 for the first and only time and followed it up with a 55 point season.

Petterssons came when he was like 24 and he followed it up with an 89 point season.

Huberdeau's contract is also worse, even though he's paid less, he's also signed until he's like 38, Pettersson is only signed until he's like 32.

Canucks won't be able to trade that contract without any retention. If the contract is moved at full cap hit, there is a anchor contract coming back in the futures package. Something more than just 1 or 2 seasons.

Canucks are not going to need that cap space for the next 6 seasons. They got a reset/retool and they might rise up in 2/3 years but the cap space won't be needed for a while yet.

If the Canucks GM can convince the owner to retain to $8M-$9M range. This would create a bit more buzz and better offers. I'm a fan and it's not my money but I believe that is the Canucks best strategy

Just the fact that you had to break my loose analogy down like that to prove your point is very telling.

I suggested Lohrei, Poitras and Mittlestadt for Pettersson a few weeks back.

Curious what folks think of that offer?

Sweeney seems too risk averse to make a move like that but Neely has been pushing for a more aggressive approach to this offseason.

any truth that St. Louis might be sniffing around on EP40? I dont know why they would but may Steen is a believer?
We have a pretty glaring need for a 2C in the short term and Dvorsky’s upside is the subject of some debate though he’s super young and progressing well. It’s just speculation though re: EP. Armstrong is still the GM until after the draft and the Blues aren’t letting Steen talk much so it’s a bit unclear how aggressive (or not) we’ll be this offseason. We have a lot of young talent either at the NHL level or knocking on the door and 2026-27 is likely shaping up to be a transition year for the Blues. Especially with the gauntlet division they are in.

How many years have ya'll been waiting for this bounce back?
About the same amount of time ive been waiting for a winning lottery ticket. If I just keep playing I might win big though!

If I were in Vancouver's shoes I'd just try to get to an amicable package and turn the page, idk why their org is trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

Blues desperately need a 2C behind Thomas. We also have a favorable cap situation so we can likely absorb EP40's entire deal better than most other teams. Plus we have a lot of futures sitting around with three 1st round picks this year.

I'd trust Steen to at least have some read on the behind-the-scenes situation of a fellow Swede, but I haven't heard anything about any existing relationship between those two.

Either way, I think the Blues make a lot of sense for an EP40 deal. We can handle the cap hit and be happy with him even if he only is able to play at a 2C level and never recovers any of his past form.

What sort of an offer would the Blues give for EP40?

Blues actually seem like a great fit for EP

Tell that to the scouts and hockey operations staffs from all 32 teams who just voted him as one of the Top 3 22U forward prospects in the AHL this past season.

The kid has a chance to be an absolute beast. Especially with that shot. He’s only gonna get stronger and smarter now.
He was named to the AHL top prospects team, one of six, not top 3 overall. Maybe if you're saying at forward position, then ok.

But so was Logan Mailloux the year before, must mean he's real special too then.

I'd take LA's 1st.

You had every opportunity not to write a horrible take about MBN but you went ahead and did it anyway. Congratulations

If Red Wings fans over value their prospects, neutral fans can certainly under value them too. Nice try making this a super-biased take though
Well the Wing's fans track record speaks for it self. But you can keep on believing though, because it's been working out great so far.
