I would be surprised if Blake's fired. Ownership was well aware about the cap and bringing in Dubois this year. I think Blake's job is safe until next seasons end result.

The Kings went out and spent a bunch of assets and money with the chest thumping proclamation of 'we're contenders' while currently they're trending for their worst season since the covid year.

That seat is the hottest one in the league right now no matter how that boot tastes.

Then you'll probably be very disappointed. There's no cap to make moves. Blake will have a little more flexibility in the offseason.

lmao

We just disagree, Blake's got til next year not this one. Ownership knows the Kings are tied financially until next year.

If that's the cost to get Toffoli back its a no from me. I'm probably one of the few here that wouldn't mind getting Toffoli back, but its got to be at a reasonable price and a 1st and decent prospect isn't it. I think other teams will be able to beat whatever we offer anyways.

With the kind of moves the Avs just made, getting Toffoli isn't going to move the needle that much even after everyone gets back healthy.

Toffoli for Kaliyev and a first.

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
Fiala - Dubois - Toffoli
Grundstrom - Lizotte - Lewis

Then top prospects once again get to sit and watch the playoffs for a week while both the Kings and Reign are bounced early.

Roy, Toffoli and Arvidsson leave as UFAs, no picks for the draft.

Go Kings!

Wow how did we get there?
Cause I believe ownership was well aware of the cap flexibility before the Dubois trade and was well aware Kings were tied to improving the team til next season.

Add another pick, cause Kings are going to need another team to take on money. This is a huge pass.

As @Herby has said numerous times, this slow boil approach that BLuc seem to love for the prospects is archaic and has no relevance in the cap era. You play your guys in positions they can succeed in and take advantage of their low cap hit before they get their raises. You don’t bury them in the minors throughout their waiver exempt status until they’re devalued while you also spent to the cap to fill your team with guys making more money. It’s idiotic and infuriating that they haven’t learned a damn thing. Losing 3 guys who once had a lot of value to waivers in 6 months is insane.

I don’t have as much time to waste right now as I usually do, but I’d love to research the amount of points scored and games played by players on ELC’s for the Kings vs teams around the league. The AHL usage for first round picks was eye-opening and showed just how different the Kings develop high end guys vs most teams. I’m guessing the ELC usage and production would be just as telling, and it’s not like the Kings have been picking at the bottom of the draft or having prospects try and fight onto loaded rosters, the Kings have had a lot of high picks and haven’t won a playoff series in a decade or finished higher than third in the division the last 8 years.

Getting Toffoli back would be cool and he would make sense for the rest of the year, but I wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot pole at that price.

Rob needs to save his job by doing two things:

1. Winning the Cup or at least getting to the finals

2. Find wingers that make Dubois productive in the long term

He will spend up to his nipples on Toffoli or whoever, and if the above happens then great. If not, he's lighting the fuse on the way out
