Looks like they are shedding cap for a move

People are calling Blake uncreative, and that is simply untrue. His tenure has absolutely been marked by insane cap creativity, and the willingness to move pieces to shed cap and make room. He has just f***ed it all up and it's turned out bad.

I'm surprised AEG is willing to let him waive players for nothing still.

Doing basic stuff here, basically with waiving JAD and Moverare, getting rid of Roy, Rittich, and Kaliyev, you can basically afford Saaros with some cap retention and still activate Arviddsson and Grundstrom. This also allows you to keep up Clarke and Turcotte and Laf.

Obviously this would require more transactions and acquisition of assets (IE Roy for a first plus, flipping that to Nash + more stuff) but it is possible.

so JAD & Moverare couldn't even land the coveted "future considerations"?

nor Fagemo?
nor Bjornfot?

i think we have a scouting problem (say the Blake defenders)

I'd say a development & integration into the NHL lineup issue. Drafting has been pretty good, even if some of them get traded.

It's INSANE that the Flyers got a 1st for Walker. Also insane that the Colorado Avalanche of all teams were the ones to do it.

Might shape up to be a crazy TDL after all

And why would we do that?

Saros is a mediocre, very undersized goalie who never won a single playoff series.
If we take a look at the recent Stanley Cup winners, we see a pattern of sheight over 6'3.

It's just how the new NHL works, the defenders of succesfull teams are mobile with size and don't allow selective shooting.
As their goalie, it's enough to be huge and butterfly down with at least average lateral movement.
Vasilevski made made it to the top of the crop being only mildly skilled.
He just knows his lateral movement and i mean that in the best way possible.

Portillo will be a beast

No worries.... Walker was traded for a 1st rounder by another team

Just have to wait and see. They are clearly gearing up for something. I just wish the state of the team provided more optimism for this move. There is just too high of a chance it will be a colossal waste of assets for a high-risk rental that has no hope of covering the glaring flaws present throughout the lineup. It would be funny if their deal falls through and they lose Moverare for nothing. I can't think of a possible deal that will right the ship.

Hunch they are making cap room for an LD?

Re LD why did Buffalo pick up another LD after having Power and Dahlin?

Maybe we need to work with Buffalo to even up our D

I feel like not making a move during the trade deadline is the right move. I can't see anyone putting us over the hump and making us contenders. The return of RV, Kempe, Grundstrom, and Anderson should be enough. Let it ride and see what happens, unless someone wants to severely overpay for Roy...

Yeah, this is Blake's team. It doesn't need any tinkering. Let's see if they sink or swim. I don't think there is a chance in hell he trades Roy. If he does I'm really going to question how delusional he is. That's a move of someone thinking longer term than the next few months and he certainly shouldn't be at this point.
