Wennberg scratched for Seattle for trade purposes. Should the King's get on this? We could use a 3C.

Gavrikov, interesting to see what happens here. Only committed 2 years & will need to be re-upped this summer. Can't see King's letting Roy walk without Gavrikov extended. Blake has traded guys in the past over contract negotiations. Wonder if Blake is mad about the 2 year contract, NMC, & almost full signing bonus money on the contract.
Not sure if Gavrikov is worth a 6 mil cap hit to sign for a longer deal. He will pretty much be in the same spot as Roy next year but makes almost double already. He would probably want some term, is he worth 6- 6.25m for 4-5 more years? Is he worth closer to 5?

Does anyone have an evolving hockey subscription to see what both he and Roy are worth based off their metrics?

Re: the Devils firing Ruff. Yeah, it was a long time coming for their fans, and we were the last game on a bad road trip for them, but I always get a kick when a coach gets fired after we stomp a team.

Mwa ha ha!

Trade for Hanifin.
Get double retention.
Extend long term (only slightly more than Gavrikov)
Run this playoffs with a stacked D
Trade Gavrikov after the season to recoup some of the Hanifin cost.
NMC, Gavrikov has a no move clause, if he puts up a fuss about giving a list of teams he wants to go to, waive him & stash him on a bottom feeder.

Gavrikov should have worked out a more team friendly deal.

Edit: For a million or two more against the cap, Hanifin is the better investment.

The NMC means he cannot be waived.

True. Thought Tampa pulled that with a defenseman recently, but it was a NTC.

With most of the contract paid in bonus a buyout wouldn't help.

Not really interested in having Gavrikov skate out next season without a reasonable extension. The last contract wasn't exactly reasonable. Might just have to bench him in a contract year. Pretty horrific contract.

In reality it probably wouldn’t stop us moving him, it just gives him full control over where he goes. It obviously would lessen any potential return on him.

I’m not saying I would move him btw, because there is far too many unknowns to emerge between now and the summer.

lol Kings aren’t making any major trades.

Jon Hoven broke down the money on his latest pod. When everyone comes back, which they will, they will likely have to send down Turcotte, Clarke and even waive JAD.

Since Morevare will have to clear waivers again, they likely keep him as the one extra player.

They started the season with 21 players and will end with 21.

Kings will have to move Kayilev (which everyone is saying will be at the draft or the summer) or swap Lizotte for someone like Bjudstad or a gritty forward so they move his 1.6 million.

Was looking around at players to poach.
Kaliyev was pretty high up on the list of young guys with good xGF & low PPG or guys that have a shot a breaking out. Robinson on TO wouldn't be bad.

Whalstrom NYI & Kakko were pretty far down the list.

Connor Dewar was interesting. Speedy Lizotte sized guy that ends up scrapping quite a bit & scores the occasional goal. Might be a good motivator for the King's.

Checking in on min, it seems they think their gm is going to trade Marco Rossi. 9th overall from Byfield draft. Got derailed by the myocarditis. He has 33 points in 62 games in his first real NHL year. Listed at 5'9, 183 he's short but stocky. Cheap contract this year & next. With the shortage of centers right now (TO trying Domi at 2C), seems like Rossi might be a good target. Still can't believe Min would move a forward that seems to be producing on a cheap contract when they have 14M dead cap.

Edit: Rossi still has waiver exemption this year so that might help the roster issue with guys getting healthy.

my tdl wishlist:
- Roy for a 1st and a 2nd
- Moverare for Edmundson
- JAD for Matt Martin
- Kalyev and Grundstrom for Jordan Greenway and a 4th
Not sure how feasible some of these are but I really like the idea of acquiring Greenway, especially if the Sabres retain 50%.

27 years old, 6'6, physical, has some scoring ability, and from what I've seen on the analytics side seems pretty strong defensively. Pretty perfect addition to the Kings bottom 6 IMO.

If the Sabres retain the Kings would have him at $1.5m for this year and next year. Very tempting.

If the Kings can add Greenway and another bottom 6 forward with some toughness that could be a really solid way to re-shape the 4th line to help make the Kings better suited for legitimate playoff success.

Edit: Also like the idea of adding Edmundson (if the Kings do look to add). Big 6'5 LHD who can kill penalties. Kings need is more-so a top 4 LHD but adding Edmundson would be a solid low-budget alternative to strength the left side.

I say we hold on to Kaliyev, but re-invent him as Arturo Kaliyevo

What is this fascination with Edmundson? Is it because he's big and has a good sounding hockey name? He sucks. He's a liability defensively.

Greenway I like, and is pretty good defensively, but he's a guy who puts you on the PK a lot. That's not really something you want when playing the Oilers.

The Kings like Lizotte a lot.

When fully healthy he's an excellent 4C.

So I doubt they move him.
Arizona has a person that fits exactly what we need in Bjugstad. Talk about a guy that can help shutdown, McDavid and Co.

He’s a massive, right hand shot Centerman that plays the penalty kill. He is also signed one more year.

Now we know no matter what we think management is going for it I would rather have a guy that gives us two shots at something than a UFA that cost us picks we don’t have and walks.

We also have no goaltender signed for next year. Arizona is in the selling mode.

I propose Bjugstad and Vejmelka , One of them retained 50% for Lizotte, Kaliyev and Rittich. I know I’m higher than most on.Vejmelka but worst case if he is the one that celery is retained on and is our 1B or backup I think we could do a lot worse. I would also like to see him behind our more competent defense.

What do we think the odds are of acquiring a goalie? I'd love to get Ullmark out of BOS, downside is that likely prices Roy outta town. Unlikely but I wonder if a Gavrikov for Ullmark + Forbort deal could make some sense
