LA KINGS 2023/4 Regular season discussion

The good things about Hiller so far:

1. He's a big analytics fan and analytics have shown the issues with certain players like PLD, Englund, etc..
2. He seems to have PLD's ear as it was mentioned by Russell Morgan that he seems to talk to him more than the other coaches.
Maybe he was telling PLD to play like dog shit as he wanted a head coaching roll in the league?

Give us nothing, Jim!

Switch out JAD for RV and I’d like it

Like I said, I like and respect GBH (way more than most apparently). But this "MMQB" and "How could Blake have known" stuff is just ridiculous and a really really bad look for him. GBH spent many months arguing here with people such as yourself and RJ, who could see exactly where this was heading, and now that those chickens are coming home to roost he is not acknowledging that and is accusing people of being MMQB.

According to dictionary.com this is the definition of MMQB

The criticisms directed at Rob Blake are certainly not after the fact. Whether that is the decision to end the rebuild (yourself and me) or the choices made with individual transactions (KP, RJ & others)

Will get to all this on the weekend I hope....the problem is they are criticisms NOW....because Turcotte's injuries, or Thomas injuries, or Bjornfoot's flatline, there's criticisms of OMG Blake didn't address the goaltending issue, (there is evidence he clearly did, results matter, and none of them panned out, but to say he didn't address is bullshit) same with LD etc... long story short, the critcisms are about the process....which is BS...if you want to stand there and say Blake never drafted an adequate NHL Starter....absolutely 100% valid, but to be lazy and say he never addressed the situation, ignores everything that he did, to address...the situation.

Nothing really to see yet and I am unimpressed with the lines but Hiller has a little leeway to take control and figure out what works for him. My first impressions are I like what he says, seems like a solid guy who isn't into bullshit.

I like what he said about PLD and about doing the work, earning an opportunity, and losing your spot if you fail. At least it seems he has his attention a little better, but that isn't saying much as he has buried his fair share of coaches.

Sounds like he is going to push for offense and speed and listen to analytics a little more. I sort of like that he says the wrong things and walks himself back as weird as it sounds because he is less rehearsed which comes off as more authentic and sincere. I like that he didn't bullshit the answers, if he didn't know he said so and seems pretty determined at motivating players to work hard.

He seems to have a good read on some of the players and he gets Kaliyev a little better, and actually talked about having a right shot forward on the powerplay.

I liked what he said about being drafted, playing his first game, and becoming a head coach and fulfilling his dream with LA, though it is standard fare.

Not great, but we could do worse in the interim I guess.

Vilardi has had a pretty interesting season to say the least. I didn’t realize it until someone in my fantasy league chat commented about guys named Gabe being feast or famine for him (this guy also owned Gabe Davis in football)

Gabe Vilardi had 6-6-12 in 5 games between December 13th and 22nd.

He has 5-3-8 in his 24 other games.

a bit misleading headline.
Quote:
"
Instead, just as the 2023-24 season began, the duo signed on long-term, inking matching seven-year, $59.5-million deals. According to their head coach, it was the blockbuster that remade the club’s forward corps that convinced his star netminder to return.

“I know after talking to him, he was very pleased with the trade we made with the L.A. Kings,” Bowness said of his goaltender Thursday as the 2024 NHL All-Star festivities began, thinking back to the off-season that set up Winnipeg’s revival. “He wanted to make sure that we were invested in winning the Stanley Cup. He told us after the season — the Vezina, yeah, the money, yeah, but he wants to win the Stanley Cup.

Sounds like he didn't like the status quo with the guys in front, and like most good goalies on average teams, wanted a commitment by the ownership for him to stay. Pretty common statement. Would've been nice to use those assets on him instead of PLD.

Its weird JAD is the main topic. He's a 13th fwd. No one is saying he doesnt have value.. but even on this team there are better options NOW that make him a daily scratch esp once RV is back. No way he should play ahead of Turcotte, Kaliyev, Fagemo or Laf.
JAD isn't a 13 the forward. He should be 4c and Turcotte should be 3c, if they continue to use Byfield at wing. PLD should be on the bench or in Ontario.

From Coach Hiller yesterday:

"“I’ll say it like this -- we are a really good team,” Hiller said. “We have struggled, we’re not going to hide from that, but I think it would be a mistake to overreact in some areas of the game when I don’t think that’s necessary.

There you have it, new coach is basically saying it's on the players...imagine that. It's hard to believe that the professionals who actually get paid to run this teams have such different perspectives than an internet message forum.

Axl can you do us all a favor and pronounce the season over so the Kings can win the Stanley Cup again? We need that juju one more time.

Huh? Maybe there is more to the quote that you didn't include. Because i don't take away the same thing you are -- that he's saying it's on the players and things will remain the same coaching wise. You could equally take away that he's saying we just need some minor coaching adjustments (minute allocation, OT utilization, PP line changes, more aggressive play/mindset, etc.). Where does he say that the sole issue is the players need to play better?

I'll say one thing, i'm very impressed how well you stay on course with your agenda no matter what else is happening around you. Always on script. Well done.

You can look up all the quotes yourself...I feel with what he said and the fact that there were basically no line changes in practice yesterday signals that there are not going to be any drastic changes with deployment.

This board is the epitome of 'overreaction'...coach says overreacting would be a mistake. Stay tuned!

Axl could watch Schindlers list and somehow come to the conclusion that it was never the coaches fault. When it comes to coaches or just in general, avoid his comments. They never have any logic.

This coming from the guy who was convinced that Vilardi would never play a game in the NHL and that Byfield would be bust. Would bet my house on him having Turcotte = bust as well, would have to look that one up.

Hey Sol, I’ll double down on your take, provide me one quote from a credible member of the hockey world that states Todd was the problem.

What’s outlandish is the Kings crater and you’re here bowing down to your knees for your man lol. You’re having awful takes despite there being evidence against it. The patented Axl take. Lmaooo
