Two letters for you. PK. He's been on the ice for only 3 goals against and 3 goals for during penalty kills this season. That's in 82 minutes. Just think about that.

He's the reason why the Kings have the top penalty killing rate in the NHL.
Thats quite a conjecture..He def is good on the PK but I dont think his skills are so unique that replacing him with another fwd that isnt worn out would not yield similar results over some fair amount of time. You have to net it out..is his overall contribution to the team worth blocking someone like Turcotte with a ton more upside? I say def not. Edit: one other point is teams usually run 3 pairs of fwds on the PK.. so he's out there 1/3 of the time.

Good luck finding another penalty killer with a goals against per 60 minutes of less than 3 out there.

I’m not a Trevor Lewis fan, but there is a good reason he plays every night.

You are basing your conclusion on one metric. This is old and I'll try to dig up something more recent that looks at his overall impact (including PK)

Or say f*** it and put Turcotte/Byfield/Kaliyev together.
Man this is the future dream first line lol (if they all end up living up to their full potential of course). Ever since they drafted Byfield, I've loved the idea of those three playing together.

Turcotte as the high energy/compete level winger. Byfield as the playmaking center. Kaliyev as the finisher. All three of them with great skill.

Looking pretty unlikely at this point but one can dream

Get Turcotte as far away from Dubois as possible. Swap Fiala and Turcotte and I'm game.
I go back & forth on this in my mind. On one hand, i think maybe you pair PLD with two dudes who work their ars off like Turc and Moore -- and maybe they pull PLD up based on their effort.
On the other hand, i think PLD can tank those dudes and i don't want to waste their hard work/effort on this lazy loser. Like would PLD anchor anyone or could two guys lift that anchor out. IDK. Tough decision. But one that should NEVER even have to be considered for a newly signed 25 yr old 8/68 guy.

Marek and Friedman said again today Kings prob move Kayilev for a forward with bite.

Also, questioned why Blake won’t go after one of Calgary’s goalies…and not the expensive one.

…Vladar? Or Wolf? I’d love Wolf on our team.

Ouch. One of the comments on that article pretty much sums up my thoughts:

PLD just doin' the same thing in LA, weighing that team down with both his poor effort and production as well as his cap hit. Everyone bagged on Chevy, Maurice, whoever but they ended up getting rid of the problem and like magic they are a solid team GT's, D, Forwards. I think Maurice tried every trick he had but the coach can only do so much to 'motivate' a player, self motivation has to come in at some point. It just wasn't there.
Feels a lot like McLellan. What can you do to motivate a player that doesn't want to be motivated? Dubois is the primary issue with this team. Perhaps Fiala should be playing with Lizotte like last season, but Dubois shouldn't be playing at all.

Flames not trading Wolf to the King's.

Vlad: 3.27 GAA, 0.888 Save%, -0.38 goals saved above expected.

Markstrom 2.60 GAA, 0.912 save%, 0.93 goals saved above expected.

These 2 obviously haven't bothered to look at the numbers. Markstrom is the only trade target from Calgary. Cap would be tricky.

If they’re looking for forwards with bite then they should be removing grundstrom and lizotte from the line up. Not Kaliyev. Grundstrom has the size but plays like a princess. And Lizzo has the heart of a lion but the size of tinkerbell. I don’t see why the Kings want to move Kaliyev and not just remove the replaceable fourth liners with some forwards who play with edge

As far as getting a player with "some edge" absolutely nothing would surprize me at this point after whats already been done player personell wise. Loss of draft picks and established players for thugs/overage hangers on/behavior problems.
I read on twitter around the change from deano to bluc on a tweet allegedly that was from lombardi saying that blake was an "asshole and will be taken advantage of by other gm's".
Who knows whose account this was but whoever wrote the take it sure proved true

Hindsight?
Its was blatantly stupid on its face for several reasons. 1. You fill a position of dubious need as compared to something more obvious like 1G. 2 - You f***ed your cap to the point you only had 4.5mil to sign 2 goalies and a 3LD and have to juggle to populate a 23 man roster even with RV on LTIR. 3 - you bring in a guy with dubious work ethic / character that quit on 2 teams. 4. You move a guy that just broke out and could easily surpass the production of the guy you got. 5. You commit 60 mil for 8 years without the guy proving a thing. These just the things you know at the time of the trade with no hindsight.

Wow, would love to hear any further detail about this alleged Lombardi quip about Blake. Anyone else heard about that?

3C was an issue for this team without a doubt, but that’s why we drafted Byfield and signed Danault. As much as I hated trading Vilardi it would have made sense if we got a guy like Hellebuyck back. Even if it was all the same pieces as we sent for Dubois.

Fiala - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
Turcotte - Byfield - Kaliyev
Grundstrom - Lizotte - Lewis

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Clarke
Roy - Spence

Hellebuyck
Rittich

If the cap doesn’t work there you could easily move Roy or Arvidsson to get compliant and replace them with Laferriere or Fagemo and Englund or Moverare.

Not just trading Vilardi, but four guys total as if you’re acquiring Eric Lindros. Trading one of only two right hand shots in your top 9 for another lefty. Blocking Byfield from playing the position he was drafted to play, let alone Turcotte. The list goes on.

I would really like to find out the discussions that arrived at this deal. There were so many red flags and self imposed harm by executing it, its hard to picture the way this went down internally.
