I wasn't aware of those comps.
Even so Boston was probably seen as closer to the cup than LA.
He had a good season and I expect another one next year with Kempe and Byfield as line mates.
Another team would probably pay him more than $3-5m

If a team does and he takes it than fine. But this is Kopitar that came out in his exit interview saying he wants to be a one franchise player. He will be 36 this season and I doubt he plays until 40. So he has 1-3 years left after this comings season. He's already made over $120m in his career. I don't think $2-3m extra is going to push him away from LA.

You consider Vilardi a prospect? He'll be 24 at start of next season.
He's not classified as one but he missed so much time at the beginning of his career that he still feels like one. The point was his is still apart of the core to build around.

Any idea what vilardi's ask is on a bridge and/or long term deal?

No one knows. It could be anywhere from $1-5m a year. My guess with the cap so tight and needing a goalie that LA does the same thing they did with Anderson. A 1yr deal at $1-1.5m with a handshake long term deal to be signed halfway through the year when he is eligible too that they agreed upon right now this summer.

LA will make him an offer and tell if he wants more, he's getting traded to Winnipeg. He will then sign whatever deal works for their cap.

why is PLD linked to the kings - when your C depth is good and kopitar is still productive? Must be bergevin.

Helle to the kings I can see.
Biggest need next year = goalie

More valuable long term piece= C that can take some of the burden off Kopitar as he gets older

Not the worst bargaining strategy to get him to sign cheap haha

Why do you think Kopitar is going to get $6-7m a year? Bergeron and Krejci sign with Boston last season for $2.5m amd $1m respectively after coming off larger contracts. I doubt LA's going to throw huge cash to Kopitar. Anything over $5m is a bad deal for LA and Blake. I can see him coming around $3-5m
That is false numbers on bergeron and krejci

Bergeron was 5 million and krejci was 3 with bonuses deferred

Correct but their cap hit was only $1m and $2.5m last year. Yes they have bonus cap hit this year without playing will be a combined $4.5m. So it's like they signed 2 year contracts but you only get 1 season of work. I'd take that for a lower cap hit.

depends on what you'd be willing to sacrifice in that second year just to get a legal compliant roster.. LA is probably in a better position - but i was replying to the context of your post - not what you'd be willing to do. it made it sound like bergeron/krejci took one for the team and signed so low and kopitar should do the same

whether or not you would do it is different - i would do it too if i had the space to accomodate the bonuses the following year + have some one year options to load up on and try and go for it

I do not think you good in math.

PLD and Helerbuyck with new contracts will be about 20 million

Byfield, Vilardi, and Iafollo with new contracts will be about 10 million
Dubois and Helly probably come in between 16-18 million. Kopitar’s 10 million comes off the books and he probably signs again with the Kings for less than half of that plus cap is supposed to go up by a large amount next summer. It could work.

Decent trade for both teams. Kings get the players to win now and the Jets get some excellent young players.

Very sneaky posting .
Don't obfuscate to make your points.
You did the same thing with waivers.
Then you make excuses afterwards.
I am not impressed.

Better just worry about Vegas guy.
You can't go anywhere unless you can get past them.

And you guys won’t get anywhere if you can’t get past Edmonton. You guys added Fiala, Gavrikov and Korpisalo and still couldn’t get the job done. Why upgrade your team when you can just be content with first round exits.

Its called construction.
And we came close to being up 3 - 1 to you guys.
Despite you having the best PP in the history of the league.
I had Edmo picked for the Cup.
Obviously the Kings knocked the wind out of the Oil because they looked a few levels lower against Vegas.
You coming in and saying for LA to make a bad trade that only makes it easier so LA doesn't knock you down a level with a hard fought series is BS.
The Oil and McDavid are the ultimate current representation of expectations chokers for the last half decade.

LA would be easily getting the 2 best players in the trade. Byfield is going into year 4 after his draft and hasn’t shown any better then a third line player. Adding those 2 players would potentially make the Kings the top team in the Pacific but yeah, wait for them to develop and hopefully make the 2nd round in 4 more years.

Ludicrous, Byfield was on a successful L1 in the regular season, steepening his trajectory while deriving significant benefit from playing with the 2 guys you absolutely want him to learn from.
Don't judge him solely by his stats or his inexperience showing in the playoffs.

Helley sucks in the playoffs and is going to sign a contract that burdens his next teams cap space.
PLD brings bad vibes to the locker room and has dicked around every team he has played for
I think you know this would imbalance the Kings roster build for years to come, and you are full of it.
Or are you Saint McShogun, the patron saint of helping division rivals?
Ba ha ha

Helly has been good in the playoffs minus this year where Vegas made every goalie look like an AHL backup. Dubois would be one of the best forwards on the team. If this trade was offered to the Kings with extensions in place then they’d be jumping all over it but I guess Kings fans can keep hoping that Byfield might score more then 5 goals in a season.

Your unbalanced team looks very beatable, which is why we keep looking to make improvements. However as of today, our main focus is if we can face Vegas after beating Edmonton.

This Blake comment was a direct answer to Vilardi trade plans from reporters
Did he also say a bunch of other GM things?

”I stand behind our coach”

“We aren’t looking to trade picks and prospects for rentals”

GMs say things they don’t mean all the time. You think he’s going to answer “yes, Vlardi is totally on the block and we are desperate to trade him”.

Maybe try beating Edmonton first before worrying about the Cup champs. I thought LA was good enough to win the Cup this year but goaltending and coaching was your downfall. Add a Vezina candidate goalie like Helly on the Kings and they're instant contenders. There's going to be many more meetings between the Oilers and Kings in the next 5 years and Edmonton won't win all of them, nothing wrong with trading from an area of strength to improve weaknesses.

Okay but I wouldn't send back anything higher than Kaliyev as prospects go. That means no Clarke, Byfield or Vilardi. I would be hesitant to even move Kaliyev or Kupari at this point, but then again i want to let the kids take over the team. I understand you have to give to get but I also see some better UFA options coming up the following offseason when LA has more cap space to play with.

Also with LA still needing a goalie there is no way they can afford PLD without massively changing the team. If they move Vilardi than Blake should be fired immediately. That means they would have to lose Iafallo and Arvidsson, Durzi, Grundstrum/Lizotte. That is a lot to lose for one player upgrade and a goalie. Realistically they should spend it on a goalie amd live with what they have until next offseason.
Damn, a lot of Kings fans want the forever rebuild. Just waste away the end of Doughty Kopitar’s careers. Just keep building guys. Maybe 2 or 3 years from now Kopitar is done and Byfield will be a 2C. 2-3 years Doughty might be done but don’t worry Clarke might be ready to be a good #2D. Just keep the tread mill of a little better than average. But at least you will have prospects.

You talk as if your team has accomplished anything noteworthy in the playoffs in the last few decades. No franchise in the history of the NHL has accomplished so little after being granted so much during said period as well. The one true franchise player you had that could take you someplace in the playoffs couldn’t wait to leave your town.

I remember when the Sharks had beaten the Kings a couple times in a row in the playoffs (yet they didn’t brag). Then the tables turned. Your franchises fans of all the franchises out there should know some humility.
