Oh my god, this was 2 years ago after Vilardi got off his surgery.
Feel free to browse all Blake interviews of the past 2 years if you have time.

If Vilardi would be on the table, he would have be traded when they tried to upgrade the team to Kopitars likings.

The fact that Vilardi wasn't included in a deal around a player like Fiala should make you think what is actually needed to trade for him.
I give you a tip, the whole Jets organization wouldn't be enough since you are cruising for a rebuild
LMAO

Newsflash: Vilardi is worth more than entire Jets organization.

lol you guys...

Neither PLD or Helle is what L.A. even remotely needs.
So no interest at all, not to mention the OP asking price which puts Twilight Fan Fiction to shame.
Vilardi or Byfield are not even on the table anyways.
Actually PLD is what the Kings need as a #2 center. Asking price we can disagree with, but PLD is no doubt a assets Blake should go for.

PLD may be the most over-valued, and soon to be over paid, player being discussed on this entire message board.

Dude has hardly out produced Arvidsson, doesn’t play with half the sandpaper, and is going to ask double the salary based off size & draft pedigree.

Dude isn’t the answer for LA. At all.

There's lots of speculation on Dubois asking price is so no.ones knows for sure. Is Dubois got a bad reputation sure, but with the strong lockeroom I think he would love being in L.A.. I respect everyone's opinion but listening to so many media talking heads who made arguments on both sides of the coin, I feel that Dubois would be great on the Kings as a 3rd line center then could move up once Kopitar retires. There is no one out there available with his talent and age.
Byfield is also overhyped for not producing. We're just spectators and have no control over what the organization thinks or does.

As a Jets fan, I'd pay him 8.XM for 8 years in a heartbeat if he was willing to stay

I'd like to get PLD but I highly doubt LA can afford him. The cap cost is going to be to high for what he brings points wise or leadership wise. I'd rather LA wait and see if Matthews becomes available next offseason. The Kings are still at least two years away from cup contenders. It will let the kids grow into their roles and open cap space for a big name guy.

Can the Kings afford 8M-9M PLD caphit in year 1?

The Kings can't afford that for next season. After this season than LA should be able to afford that depending on what Kopitar does. My guess is Kopitar signs a cheap 2/3yr deal around $5m. Which means he opens up about 5m for next season. I don't think they bring Arvidsson back which is another 4.2m. That gets them enough for a $9m guy to fill either the Kopitar spot (if not filled by someone like Byfield/Vilardi) or Arvidsson spot if they can't find a Kopitar replacement.

This season LA is stick in a rut with cap. Next season they have tons available even without the cap going up.

WPG has said they want players for now, also know as a hockey trade. Just have to send some cap back.

As a fan of a Tight-capped kings team, I want no part of that salary for a moody 60pt malcontent with a propensity to take boneheaded penalties. The Kings already have one high-minute skater who takes brain dead penalties with frequency, another is probably not a good idea.

Good luck to whoever decides to go down that path, I just really hope Rob Blake isn’t dumb enough to be that guy.

Maybe tone down the rhetoric If you want serious replies.

I've never seen PLD moody. As for the penalties, he draws more than he takes. He drew rhe 4th most in the league last year

This is unbelievable.
You don't have to get more and more creative since this is not the issue.
The issue is that Vilardi is not available for a trade regardless of how many times you try.

Those 2 Winipeg guys have 0 value to the Kings
why is PLD linked to the kings - when your C depth is good and kopitar is still productive? Must be bergevin.

Helle to the kings I can see.

Okay but I wouldn't send back anything higher than Kaliyev as prospects go. That means no Clarke, Byfield or Vilardi. I would be hesitant to even move Kaliyev or Kupari at this point, but then again i want to let the kids take over the team. I understand you have to give to get but I also see some better UFA options coming up the following offseason when LA has more cap space to play with.

Also with LA still needing a goalie there is no way they can afford PLD without massively changing the team. If they move Vilardi than Blake should be fired immediately. That means they would have to lose Iafallo and Arvidsson, Durzi, Grundstrum/Lizotte. That is a lot to lose for one player upgrade and a goalie. Realistically they should spend it on a goalie amd live with what they have until next offseason.

What would you offer for PLD as a 1 year rental at 4M caphit (with Jets picking up the other 4M for a total of 8M AAV one year)?

Kings fans sound like Habs fans with the no to high-value players. lol

Kopitar turns 36 in August, Dubois is only 25 later this month.

How much longer will Kopitar be productive?

Kopitar shouldn't even be on the team but this is beside the point.

Dubois would be a Danauld clone and the last thing we need is redundancy.
The Kings have to finish the rebuild at some point and the worst way to do this is trading youngsters away

There are creative ways to make this work...

PLD 8M
Helle @ 50% 3.08M

For

Vilardi (?)
Spence
Iafallo 4M
Arvidsson 4.25M

Depending on Vilardi's ask, the money is neutral

If you wanted to get crazy, WPG signs PLD for 1x8M prior to the trade and retains 50% on THAT, then he extends 7x8M on Jan 1. You'd actually be CREATING cap space. The only glitch is getting PLD to accept the risk of a career ending injury in the first three months of the season
Assuming your trade proposal...

LA still adds about 3 mill in cap, lowering them to just over 4 mill in space.

Not hard to bring up some youngsters, ie just re-sign someone like Kupari to a low deal and play them.

You get a really good goalie, but lose depth and scoring. Lose 63 goals and replace with potentially 30.

You have Helly for a great price, but make the team worse squandering that great contract, potentially.

It fits, but doesn't really make sense.

I guess if the Kings get Helly at 50% and can extend him, a hard season where the kings don't have much expectations, but set themselves up for after that would be worth it.

IIt doesn't have to be. I think we're ok with picks and prospects, too. We'll be making multiple trades anyway, so we can repackage assets if they're not what we need.

Not much for a 1 year rental, so maybe like TDL prices. It's hard because LA doesn't even have cap space for PLD as they still need a goalie and to sign their RFA’s (Vilardi etc.). PLD is a luxury player at this point for the Kings. It's why I don't understand how LA can be in on a guy like him. Like, I know why they would want to be in on him but just can't cap wise for the sake of the team depth.

If Winnipeg sold PLD for TDL prices then like a Durzi, 2025 1st and 2nd. But then LA would also have to trade one of Arvidsson/Iafallo (maybe even both) in separate deals to clear enough space for PLD and a goalie. I know everyone is calling Iafallo and Arvidsson cap dumps but they aren't. They still have value to teams with space. They should be called cap casualties like what happened to the 2010 Blackhawks team and partly Tampa of recent.

I don't see a realistic trade for LA to get PLD and fix the goalie issue without killing all their depth. LA is not one forward away from challenging for the cup. The need a young legitimate #1 goalie, some more size and toughness, and their youth to finish developing to take over the team. LA might have some good young prospects but they are still an old veteran lead defensive minded team.

No one knows but Kopi easily exceeded expectations of a 35 year old Kopi this year.
Blake will see how he does this year and offer him the commiserate amount probably for one year.
I think it will be $6-7 M.
Totally disagree with the guy saying he shouldn;t be on the team.
He is still a decent 1C and can slide down to 2C and 3 C at the appropriate times.

Why do you think Kopitar is going to get $6-7m a year? Bergeron and Krejci sign with Boston last season for $2.5m amd $1m respectively after coming off larger contracts. I doubt LA's going to throw huge cash to Kopitar. Anything over $5m is a bad deal for LA and Blake. I can see him coming around $3-5m

I wasn't aware of those comps.
Even so Boston was probably seen as closer to the cup than LA.
He had a good season and I expect another one next year with Kempe and Byfield as line mates.
Another team would probably pay him more than $3-5m

You consider Vilardi a prospect? He'll be 24 at start of next season.
