Chytil continues to look good on the wing. I’m not a big believer in him but he can become a middle-6 guy for us.

Schneider has also done something to the defense. His poise reminds me of the debuts of Staal/McD years back. Clearly ready for the NHL, but let’s get him a better partner
Right now, wing is good for Chytil, so that he can play a simple straight-ahead game and not be overwhelmed by "what do I do next?" when playing center.

How much longer with the Gauthier experiment? He started out great. Was making a difference....

Since December, 17 games played... 1 goal ... 1 point.... that's a top9 player for us.

They're not judged on talent at the end of the day. It's the numbers on the big board. He's the definition of the team whipping boy. Somehow, being nearly point per game over 3+ to 4 years is not enough for people here.

Speaking for myself, it's not just about Strome's numbers. I'm skeptical that his game won't translate to playoff hockey. I hope he proves me wrong.

DRURY IS RUINING EVERYTHING GORTON DID! GRIT DOESN'T WIN! REAVES SUCKS! Funny how all those people love both Reaves and Goody now. Maybe try giving moves a shot first. That's the one problem I have with fans.
Reavers becoming a Ranger was going to happen eventually. It’s Hunt and Blaise that people questioned.

I think the same about Panarin. Space comes at a premium in the playoffs. Panarin can create space for himself whereas I don't think Strome is able to. So, what Panarin does when he has the puck will impact Strome's ability to produce, because Panarin likes to pass laterally as well as back-pass. And he's not afraid to lob it into a crowded area when he's hurried or draped over.

24 road games.

the only playoff team in the East thst comes even remotely close to that is Pitt with 20 thus far. Fla the league darlings right now have played 15. And they’re 5-5-5. Carolina 15 road games so far.

The analytics people don’t bring it up ever but the Rangers have done this playing 8 more road games than home games including all their west coast games. I can’t stress this enough. They’re going to get better over the second half. There’s no way they should be where they are with that big a swing in road vs home games played. The garden has been good to them all year. We’ve looked gasssed a lot of times and that’s absolutely tied to the travel. But on home ice man we’ve looked dynamite

Islanders fans won't shut up about their road games but the Rangers have played 60% of their games on the road and the Islander have played just over 53% of their games on the road.

But that 13 game road trip! As if it's the league's fault. Didn't they have to start the year on that trip because their new arena wasn't ready yet?

At practice today it looks like Hunt is back at 2RW, with Chytil taking Gauthier’s spot

Looks like he might be a scratch.

Should be in the AHL at this point, I think we can officially write him off as a bust.

Not as though Joey Keane was gonna be a regular starter for this team though so no regerts

Schneider should be here to stay, he is very much legit. His skating, passing, quick decision making, positioning. It's all NHL level. I REALLY hope they don't demote him when they acquire whatever trade deadline upgrade they're going to acquire. I know Gallant likes Nemeth a lot so we could see whoever they acquire being slid in next to Nemeth which would be a mistake if Schneider keeps this up.

Reminiscent of McDonagh, you're spot on with that. Took his short AHL assignment and worked hard and then came up and looked like he belonged and never look back. Schneider is right there.

Couldn’t watch the game so watched the condensed version on NHL.com.

Great win.

But I don’t get why folks around here are spitting mad about Nemeth? What did he do? On ice for 1 goal against, not directly responsible for it. Think our D is pretty solid, overall, for an NHL ice hockey squad.
I thought Nemeth had a good game for a change. I think the criticism is based on his body of work.

We need to stop with this MacKinnon curve crap. MacKinnon scored 24 goals and 63 points as a rookie. He had a sophomore slump where he still put up well over 0.5ppg. He is also possibly the best skater in the league. Comparing our kids to MacKinnon is utterly nonsensical.

These kids need to play better. Bottom line. It's year 3 for Kakko now. He should be more assertive. He should be making plays. I'll forgive the lack of overall points given the lack of PP time, but I will not continue to excuse hesitant, vanilla play. It's on him to find his confidence and improve.
Year 3 but the first and only full season. He is playing a defense first role on that line and the line is producing and not giving up goals. So, for KK this stinks, for the team this is working.

If Kravtsov took his Hartford assignment for what it was (a young waiver eligible player who had an injury in training camp and needed to get back up to speed) he would've been back up here since early November and would've been playing over Gauthier this entire time.

I love Vitaly. Have met him several times. Awesome kid, but even I can call it as is, where he should've put his head down and kicked *** and forced them to bring him up. Hell, he maybe wouldn't have had to even play an AHL game to come back. They were desperate a few days in. He did it to himself. Now he is in Russia, with a month long break, and no invite to the Olympic team while other guys were taken ahead of him. So it isn't that the NYR or Drury have no idea what they're doing, it's that the people defending him walking out obviously have no issue with the kid quitting on his teammates. Something players take notice of.

The thing I don't get is this was supposed to be a year where the team improved, made the playoffs, and got back to playing 200-foot hockey and understanding how to win. They are doing that, in an insane way. Production from two guys that don't get any PP time isn't something people should panicking about. They are 20. They don't get the same opportunity as guys like Raymond or Zegras or Stutz. Those teams stink. Kakko gets the ice, but at even strength. Also, they are 20! The production and development will come with time. People ripped Drury and Sather for ruining the rebuild and speeding things up. Now the team is good, the two kids aren't lighting up the score sheet and it's the debbie downer's out in full force to bury them. It's just a bit ironic. The team got the boost they needed when Drury took over, the club is significantly better and WILL be better for it LONG-TERM, yet the frantic panic is setting in that their two 20 year old's don't have 20+ points yet and aren't -20 with no idea how to play hockey in any zone except the o-zone.
Great Post

Rough start for Shesterkin but I never once worried he wouldn't shut it down the rest of the way. The guy is so emotionless (in a good way).

Just like Barron, Jones, Lundkvist, etc would play over McKegg, Hunt, Rooney, Gauthier, Tinordi & Nemeth? Other young players who don’t have the rocky relationship with Drury are getting passed over for scrubs, why do you think it would be different with Kravtsov who Drury publicly shamed as a quitter when he was saying goodbye to his teammates to exercise a mutually agreed upon Europe out clause?

That wasn't a shot by Lindgren, it was a pass to Strome. There would have been a follow through if it was a shot. Announcers got it wrong.
I agreed with the announcers but looking closely at the replay, even more telling was Lindgren's follow through direction which was clearly directed towards Strome. It was still a bit lucky that the D got such a big chunk of the pass and it still found it's way to Strome in an ok shooting position, but right read by Lindgren to know he was open back door.

For the money I really like goodrow as 3C behind Strome and Mika. If that’s the plan thru this window I think he’s a better fit than Chytil as a 3C. We need some two way play behind those two top centers. I’ve said that many times. Now Chytil has played well on the wing here less pressure. Can he take advantage of match ups here? Playing with lafreniere you hope they can put up some offense.

If this is the plan going forward it’s clear you’re going to upgrade on Hunt at some point and really solidify that top 9
