The broadcast talking about the Jagr-Nylander season in 2005-2006 like it's ancient history made me feel extremely old last night.

I thought we agreed anything in the post lockout era was fair game as recent history.

Man keefe calling out his team as soft after the Rangers mowed over them all night has to be the extra dagger for those guys tonight. Ouch

I'll say it again: no one is going to want to play this team in the playoffs.

24 road games.

the only playoff team in the East thst comes even remotely close to that is Pitt with 20 thus far. Fla the league darlings right now have played 15. And they’re 5-5-5. Carolina 15 road games so far.

The analytics people don’t bring it up ever but the Rangers have done this playing 8 more road games than home games including all their west coast games. I can’t stress this enough. They’re going to get better over the second half. There’s no way they should be where they are with that big a swing in road vs home games played. The garden has been good to them all year. We’ve looked gasssed a lot of times and that’s absolutely tied to the travel. But on home ice man we’ve looked dynamite

I agree in principle but that would have us winning the President's Trophy. Not sure we're there quite yet (although if the kids ever get going, who knows?).

And power skating lessons with Mark Messier. Actually that's the job the Rangers should offer Messier. Special skating instructor.

Remember when Barb Underhill was mentioned in about 5% of HFNYR posts for a couple years?

Or if you asked Leafs fans, only 26-10-4 because Shesterkin propping them up. We actually are a bad team, apparently.

We are a very good team though not there yet. People seem to forget that teams don't win without good goaltending. Im not going to apologize for having one of the best on my team. Shesterkin, Fox, Panarin, Kreider, Mika, will win a lot of games for this team. We just need another top 6 forward(preferably center) and a quality left D to be a serious contender.

People leave Strome off their posts when talking about the top guys. You leaving him out is surprising, however.

By the way, if you rearrange the standings to W-L-T after regulation (which I believe is a sane thing to do given how BS 3 on 3 and the shootout both are) we're top in the league. Teams like Florida and Tampa have a lot of games that reach OT.

100% correct. So many people underestimate travel and how it affects a teams play. To be 26-10-4 playing the most road games in the league(24) and with 2 western trips already completed is simply incredible and doesn't get enough play even by their own fans. Currently they are on pace for 115 points which may be not be attainable but with 25 of the next 42 at home who knows.

I like Strome for the most part but I don't think he is one of their top guys either. He's been decently productive but there are certain parts of his game I don't like and I'm on the fence about whether they should sign him or not.

Oh, please, with all due respect. Pick any single guy from the active roster, and we can nitpick parts of his game until the Oilers win a game again. He's not one of their top guys?

I like him but IMO he's not near the talent level of the guys I mentioned. I'm glad to see you think differently because so many on here bash the guy.The Rangers have a lot of good players. I would put him in the second tier: Strome, Kakko, Laf, Trouba, Lindgren, Miller, Goodrow etc

Idk if it's been discussed already but Mika looked like a different player out there last night. He was flying and making a ton of great plays off the rush and breakout that led to chances.

It's becoming a trend with him that he takes time to get going but once he finally does, he explodes and stays at that level.

His all around game is as good as it’s ever been, and he’s not sacrificing scoring to do it.

The rangers are going to play a ton of home games and they’re going to use that cap space to improve. They’re clearly going to upgrade on Gauthier in the top 9. Either getting a great player like Miller or Hertl or someone that is a much better fit for the third line like lehkonen. But either way they’re going to upgrade the roster with all that cap space and they’re going to play alot of home games. This team will be a top 5 team in the league going into the playoffs zero doubt in my mind and that means they’re legit contenders.

the ONLY thing that can stop thst from happening imo is Shesterkin getting hurt again

They're not judged on talent at the end of the day. It's the numbers on the big board. He's the definition of the team whipping boy. Somehow, being nearly point per game over 3+ to 4 years is not enough for people here.

Sooooooo.....no other positives? Please elaborate.
Defensively, they weren't good at all. They have let up a lot of quality chances recently, the Vegas game comes to mind. Their D zone coverage was missing, too many times they were outnumbered down low and the back pressure wasn't good.
Offensively, besides the 4th line, there wasn't a lot there. The passing wasn't sharp. Not a lot of O zone pressure in the beginning of the game. Igor was very good so they had that going for them.

Chytil continues to look good on the wing. I’m not a big believer in him but he can become a middle-6 guy for us.

Schneider has also done something to the defense. His poise reminds me of the debuts of Staal/McD years back. Clearly ready for the NHL, but let’s get him a better partner

TBH nothing is good enough for some people here. 26-10-4 and top 5 in the league isn't good enough for some people. It's always about what they didn't do right. The only thing that is acceptable to some is complete domination every single game. The GDT's have become a cesspool which I stay away from more and more. Strome is a whipping boy for sure which I am not a part of. He is in my second tier of players that I posted above.

I think the problem with Kakko and Lafreniere is that neither of them were/are elite prospects who were really ready to step directly into the NHL without issue. Compounding that is that they stepped onto a team with established stars who are kind of entrenched in their ways and carry the team themselves.
I think if both guys had spent a year or two in the AHL or at least another year or so developing before coming to the NHL we'd see them with far more confidence and ability. As it is it feels like they've been kind of "torn down and are trying to be built back up" rather than have the confidence to use their skills on a regular basis. So many safe plays or deferring to star players because that's how they've had to learn how to play in the NHL since they weren't really ready for it
Hopefully they'll eventually get going. It'd be pretty insane to pick top 2 several times like this and get nothing from it
