watching the play, my first thought was why didn't the D standing right there help out by doubling on the puck? why didn't someone show along the wall to give him an outlet?

That's on the D too. You either support or you prevent the puck from leaving the zone if Kyrou loses the battle. Our D-man did neither. Who was that on D, by the way, Krug? I don't even remember. But Kyrou also doesn't win those battles enough.

Kane never won those battles in his career either but that isn't his skillset, just like Kyrou
if a player gets stuck in a board battle with a stronger player he is going to lose those battles more often than he wins them, it is why (especially with a man advantage) you have teammates who should be helping by doubling on the puck

It was Krug. We wouldn’t be talking about Kyrou losing battle if Krug had done his job better there.
