Huh, well. I've never been a big fan of his, but glad to hear Wings fans coming in saying he's been solid. We definitely needed a veteran body back there, so I'm happy it was addressed.

seems like a lot of the Detroit fans are saying he was used in a mostly shutdown type role the past few years. So maybe the plan is to pair him with Lovejoy and turn that into our "shutdown" pair to give Greene-Severson more of a chance to put up points

Good point, and one that I'd be happy to see. Let them open up their games a bit more, they certainly have the ability to do more offensively.

Severson - Greene
Lovejoy - Moore
Merrill - Quincey

(pairings may be off, but this is pretty much the makeup of the top 6 at this point)

I would not expect Santini to make the team as a bonafide top 6 guy at this point, and keeping him in Newark as the 7th defender is a waste.

As for the signing, solid depth guy. Nothing more or less. If he can take pressure off of Cory and not commit dumb penalties, he's a + for us.

I think he'd be a great guy to pair Santini with.

There's not really a spot for Santini in the top 6 after this signing. Dont expect him playing lots of minutes in Newark.

Well, Albany is going to start the season with a great d-corps. I wonder if we'll send Auvitu down or use him as the #7 to start the season - or, potentially, if this could mean Moore and Merrill's roster spots are up for competition.

I really think you're right and maybe a play by Shero to trade for Fowler. I know some believe he's overrated and they maybe right, however, I would love to trade for him if theDevs aren't overpaying.

A signing like this needed to be made.

He could be like this year's Schlemko.

Quincey was bit overpaid at Detroit for 4.25M, but with this 1.25M he is a really good underpaid "can't-miss" signing.

I especially liked how he played at last season. There was some worse seasons at Detroit before, but latest was good. Too bad our rear end is so crowded that there was no room an extension.

Is he a Schlemko like player though? Schlem did really well manning the point, do we expect that from Quincey?

I'm hoping he's more the tough minute version of Schlem. And thus eases Greene's burden.

I'm not completely sure.

But Schlemko wasn't much of a PP guy before last year. I'm pretty sure it was his career high in points by quite a few, since he wasn't getting power play time on his former teams.

Hope Santini goes to the A to start with this now.

Santini will not start in albany. we will have 7 guys up and i can easily see merill in the press box with santini outplaying him....

the only two guys garuanteed to not sit are lovejoy and greene everyone else needs to earn their spot i would not be so quick to chuck santini to albanny if i were you guys

this signing was inevitable ..... I like how our defense looked but there are tons of questions marks back there

santini ( who i think is gonna be a regular from day 1) but still a question
merill is a question mark... i am not sold on him yet and neither is management
severson see my santini comments i think a break out year for him
moore.... if we get second half john moore than he could be watching from press box too

so bringing in a 31 year old vet was a great move by shero allows them to sit or send guys down that need it...
