Not particularly pleased with this. Felt like he was getting better over time and that despite his detractors he at least was willing to adjust his style to try to make the Leafs as good as they could be.

With him at the helm the Leafs have had some very successful seasons even if they couldn’t get it done in the playoffs.

Concerned with how this affects Matthews re-signing.

Please don’t bring in a dinosaur

Oh the leader in playoff points last year that is still leading this years playoffs in points?

Yeah you’re right McDavid’s contract is brutal man LMAO (Nurse’s is actually horrific)

Liked a lot of the moves he made at the deadline? He made only one move - acquiring O'Reilly and Acciari. Acciari's okay, O'Reilly was good, but this still was just one move.

Yes, lost Murray early in the season. Murray, who has had massive injury trouble for years. Could it have been predicted that he might be injury prone? Surfely not.
Schenn, McCabe, Lafferty?

Dubas really gambled it all on this season and lost because the core four simply couldn't get the job done in the 2nd round. No production whatsoever.

I think he's a good GM. He'll get another GM job in this league if and when he wants one.

The Leafs are in an awful situation though. They have to fill so many roster spots next year with so little money, they have no draft picks, a middling to poor prospect pool and a superstar C looking UFA in the eye and a new guy that's going to have to make a lot of tough decisions quickly. Whoever they hire will be on the hot seat from Day 1.

Wasn't a huge fan of the guy, but he did make some great moves. Players just needed to perform better. Should have tried a new coach to see if that would help first.

I guess Leafs wanted a GM that was committed asap, not a guy who may or may not drag this thing on. The draft is coming soon and we need to be prepared.

Imagine if they waited 4-5 weeks and then Dubas says yeah guys i'm not coming back, we'd be screwed.

What if the Leafs were still playing now, though? What if they made it to the Cup finals?

That window would've been even smaller.

Maybe Dubas made up his mind during the season, maybe not.

This seems like an old boys decision. The "hockey men" didn't like the analytical side from the off. He'll get another job and will end up winning a cup. He built the best Leafs lineup they've had in years and yet they failed. The fact those players scored so few goals in the playoffs isn't the GM's fault.
Not really, he built this team with his own vision, his coach, his core players, his contracts, his trades. I like the guy, it didn't work and the organization moved on. I think it was 99% due to him not committing to the team. You absolutely cannot wait until the draft comes along to figure out who your GM is.

He was a great GM but he was a rookie and made some rookie mistakes that cost him. The sequence of events when he signed Tavares to 11m and traded Kadri for Barrie. The Tavares signing jacked up the prices for Matthews and Marner while Kadri was a cheap 2c. Everything else he did was borderline elite GMing. Wherever he goes hell turn that franchise around and probably even win a cup, especially if he learned from his mistakes. Now fans of other teams can finally admit he was a great GM.

If they could have, they would have. But they are not playing right now nor are they going to make it to the cup finals.

Yeah, it's the fault of the complacent and soft mentality that the GM and coach instilled. The current Leafs are the Jacques Martin Sens, ultra talented but Charmin soft.

Dubas did a great job this year. When push came to shove, he did everything he could to improve the team. All the players he acquired this year played well in the playoffs.

Hopefully he gets another chance in a better environment.

My reading of the Leafs deciding to part ways with Dubais is that Dubas was offered an extension and decided not to sign. At that point, Dubas would still be GM until his contract expired on June 30. As a result, to start moving without him, the Leafs need to remove him from the job.

Just my take.
