As much as most people point to the coach as the central figure for developing young players, Dubas played a huge role in the development of players like Nylander, Matthews and Marner by building those soft teams around them, where they could be beat up and bullied without consequence or pushback...I think to their demise, the team culture built by Dubas made them soft and less resilient...that's why you get incidents with Matthews and his quirky smile while getting yanked and manhandled by Chiarot instead of fighting back...and you get Marner smiling while getting punched by Tkachuk over and over...what kind of hockey players do that? If someone punches you, you punch them back, especially when the game is already over.

I'm shocked by this move, truly.

Think they will regret this, as I thought he was doing a good job overall and worked wonders getting a lot of talent on that squad, especially with the salary cap the way it is. I always thought the problem was Keefe getting out coached, so I guess Dubas's loyalty to Keefe was really the deciding factor.

Will be interesting to see what happens to Dubas, I imagine he can have any job he wants outside of Montreal.
