Dubas, with no leverage, somehow convinced himself that he held all the cards, made his greed move and Shanny erased him along the boards, leaving Dubas dazed in a quiet room. Yesterday Dubas thought he was going to be GM, imagine the stress his family is under today. I’ve never heard of anything like it.

I wanted him back, after hearing how this went down, I‘m so glad he’s gone. A self absorbed, arrogant twit, who lacks common sense, lost in his won hubris. I’m convinced now this is the best move for the organization, this guy is missing some important traits.

10 years of failure for Sakic, would have been out by 5 here.

Success isn't linear, anyone who has had some will know this.
he won what did Dubas do he failed, you calling out sakic and saying Dubas is so good, shows you have no clue, again its a great day we got rid of a failure like Dubas! now time to build a winner

People also need to remember, like it or not, Shanahan also has bosses. Tell me you're an owner of a large company and you hear one of your leaders talk the way he did the other day in front of international media - what would your response be? We gave you your f***ing start and now you're saying you don't think the job is for you or your family life is being affected so much that you can't focus on the job?

So when a new GM comes in, hires a new coach and they’re both in agreement they want to keep the Core 4 together and put in players around them they feel would work, how we feeling about that? This could be a possibility with new people in place.

You twisting my words speaks a lot, Sakic won despite some bad deadline moves (he had good ones too). Sakic is a good GM, but he has 10 years of failure first, he would never last in Toronto with our fanbase.

Wow, fate really loves irony. The thing that has plagued Dubas, negotiating, is the thing that does him in here. So gimmicky to use the family card to the media to negotiate. It’s clear he wanted to stay and just wanted more money/power. This guy is the manifestation of Nylander/Matthews/Marner and I’m sure that dawned on Shanahan when he watched Kyle in the presser. What happens next will be really interesting. But they need a guy who can negotiate.

Same here.

But at the end of the day, new information can make you form new opinions and change your mind. Seems like Shanahan was sincere in wanting him back to keep working on what they started but Dubas gave a lot of doubt to that on what he said publicly and made even bigger demands that they talked about, to the point where it wasn't even in the same ballpark they had talked about.

He's entitled to those demands, but Shanahan and the Leafs are entitled to also change their mind. It goes both ways. Dubas decided to go that route, presumably with advice from his agent and family, and unfortunately it didn't work out for him.

feel like a counteroffer and a one on one meeting with dubas to understand where his headspace is at would have been the more prudent course of action

ofc in parallel you run a gm search, always gotta be prepared

Your team will be better off without this twerp
Yeah but we're still led and owned by complete moron amateurs in Shanahan and MLSE. They may be great in business ops, but they have no idea what the hell they're doing running a hockey team.

6 weeks from the draft, 7 from key NMCs moving into force, and it's a complete lame duck situation from the top to the bottom.

The worst part is Dubas made that bullshit up in an attempt to increase his asking price.

Fair enough, I dont want to come on your board and tell you how your team is or should be run but I never thought Dubas did a good job for you guys.

Honestly, I was passed we let him go but after the presser, glad he is gone. What a little b ... he literally tried to pull a nylander and marner

That's one of my huge issues with how pathetically Shanny ran this situation from jump, he always had Kyle in mind and literally offered him a deal in March before the playoffs - ZERO contingency plan. That is horribly amateur and crystallizes he doesn't have a clue what he's doing.

He gave Dubas everyone he demanded, and Dubas failed. The only heat Shanny should be getting is keeping Dubas around for so long.

Yes and no.

I think that given he's been here longer than anyone and this is his vision supposedly, that now going through another GM and possibly a coach, particularly with how hard he's backed the latter two, that his position would possibly be up for review by ownership as well.

Hold up.

You telling me you wouldn't trade it all to make that gamble?

Real life shit. You that rich?

Results matter. No results should results in a firing.
I agree but there’s a possibility new faces come in under the mindset that it didn’t work because of “this” and it would work if we changed “this” around the star players.

that's what is bothering me... If you are president of a big company or franchise you should be prepared for the worst if you are going to make a decision like this. It just feels like he doesn't have anything in place or plan...which tbh is worrisome.

Unless you have a candidate in mind and are under the radar... Not being ready to go into a situation like this is frankly astonishing.
