That's fair, but what that report suggests, is that they liked him / his job / the project enough to want to extend him, and it came down to financial / benefits / particulars.

That doesn't come across as an organization ruthlessly sweeping through to make changes. It very much feels like it's being made up as they go on - which is on Shan

It's not just money, it was the power as well. I guess they couldn't reach an agreement on the level of money AND autonomy in terms of hockey decisions. A lot of GMs, if not the majority of GMs, work with their boss for every transaction.

If he was actually smart, he would have shaken up the core after the MTL series. Come on, they clearly didn’t have “it”. Instead, we just wasted 2 more seasons after that. One series win is not a success.

For sure... Tavares out with a concussion clearly showed he didn't have what it took, to suddenly overcome a concussion and play. And Matthews... agree there... after being slashed in the wrist and needing surgery... I mean, who doesn't play through a wrecked wrist?

This really sours me further on the organization (not the logo or the team, to be clear). I thought there was a chance that maybe this organization learned and maybe this decision was merit/results driven and it seems it came down to 2 million bucks for the richest team in the league? The total autonomy part? Meh, who else would be qualified to make the decisions? Shanahan and his copious player eval experience? That wouldn't bother me.

What a shitshow.

Core or coach... But he has no experience to fall back on. So he fell back on others experiences. Tampa had growing pains until they became unstoppable, one being they got seeot by Columbus. Dubas and Co thought it was part of tnr process. Even still anyone watching this team knew that they lacked playoff determination/Grit to win. It's like Dubas never watched hockey before. Either that or he was using Toronto as his little science project.

Many on our board were calling out the lack of grit, experience, and lack of accountability, especially for the leafs best forwards. We know these are all things that Babs preached too. Dubas however stubborn waited until the last year of his contract to make any of the changes.

I think he did okay... Drafting seemed to be his strong point, but in terms of roster and management... He basically just hired everyone from when he was in the SOO, which doesn't give me confidence in his abilities as a whole. Obviously there are excellent options outside the SOO? Why doesn't he feel confident finding them?

Anyways, hoping we get a advanced stats nerd. I'd be okay with Chakya myself.

Yet it contradicts what CJ said, who we know is connected better than anyone.

I think I'd like to see more sources on this - it doesn't make sense that Dubas would ask to have his salary tripled coming off a single series win in 5 years...

CJ is also Dubas's negotiating mouth piece so j would take his stuff here with a grain of salt. His access with the leaf depended on dubas

Guys, I'll throw a name out there who has been rumored to be interviewing for GM positions - Stan Bowman.

Not sure about the public perception of this but he'd be that experienced guy. Apart from that, there is a lot of talk about Calgary not letting anyone speak to Brad Treliving and I don't think we can wait for him till post draft.

I hope the next GM is active, creative and hip enough to listen to the fanbase. If I were a GM I would surf this site daily. I am a consumer of information.

As it were, after the trade deadline I would have offered him at least a year if he was open to it. His deadline was beyond expectations for me. All that was missing was a trade for a stellar left winger.

Exactly what did Dubas do? Its not like he drafted Matthews, Marner and Nylander. He signed Tavares to that albatross contract that they can't move. He has had a revolving door of 3rd and 4th liners. He traded away a ton of picks for players that didn't work out. He got rid of Carter Verhaegee for nothing and Carter bit the Leafs in the ass and turned into a 40 goal scorer, and then dominated the Leafs in the playoffs. Dubas only mortgaged our future and got nothing done. And Keefe is likely the worst coach in the league and got owned by our old coach Maurice. GOOD RIDDANCE!

I am sick of that. When is Matthews wrist is ever healthy? Sure, keep defending a loser core. Tampa won the cup without Stamkos. They did not make excuses

Saying we'll never know is such a cop out.

Schneider is a competent top 4 d man. If Amirov was such a can't miss forward he would've gone earlier

Is he? His coach seems to think he can’t handle more than 15 minutes a night in the playoffs. If he was a competent top 4 D man he would’ve gone earlier.
