Yeah, Dubas should've known Amirov was going to get brain cancer.

This fkn board LOL.
No. You missed the part where I said without hindsight.

Amirov was the wrong kind of player (another skilled but small/soft winger). It was even worse when Schenider, exactly who the Leafs needed, was available. I said it at the time too. So miss me with that bullshit

If he was actually smart, he would have shaken up the core after the MTL series. Come on, they clearly didn’t have “it”. Instead, we just wasted 2 more seasons after that. One series win is not a success.
Changing the core would require admitting the core four is a mistake. Something Dubas would NEVER do.

I've believed for a while now that those that go out of their way to hate on Dubas, simply weren't around during the truly miserable days of the Cliff, JFJ, Burke, Nonis eras.

How could anyone live through that crap, experience what we've had recently, and opt to want more of the past rather than this?

Baffling.
How can anyone watch this club let a rookie GM piss away our 1st overall generational talent years and clap is my question

You take the BPA. And they thought that Amirov > Schneider, which he could’ve been (hopefully still can be, but his health is more important).

Taking position over the BPA always fails. You end up with a Dermott over an Aho.

Schenider should've been the pick under the BPA rule too

Excuse me??

I'm far from a KD fan but I don't buy this.

I simply can't imagine Dubas being that much of a backstabbing turd after the way his players "rewarded" him here.

If this is actually true, then the Leafs are extraordinarily lucky that he didn't take the deal.
Will never forget:

i loves me some phil kessel.

he had to go, but i was happy when he won the SC. a better playoff player than most of TO's current core.
I know the last big move from Treliving was rough considering everything but what makes him so awful? Maybe I'm missing something.
You have to view Treliving through context.

I'm not saying he's a good GM, but he was under CONSTANT meddling from ownership who prevented any rebuild whatsoever and outright forced the Kadri and Huberdeau re-signings upon him. Those deals were all Murray Edwards.

You don't make money by throwing it out either. Doubling his salary and the stakes without any success to show for is not something many businesses would just let go.

It's weird and I'm also a little frustrated because I liked what was being done but change needed to happen, and we're here.

That's fair, but what that report suggests, is that they liked him / his job / the project enough to want to extend him, and it came down to financial / benefits / particulars.

That doesn't come across as an organization ruthlessly sweeping through to make changes. It very much feels like it's being made up as they go on - which is on Shan

Meh it isn't Marner's size keeping him from producing. It is between the ears.
100% and that never changes. He doesn't have the dog in him.

People point to Ovie changing.... but he also forechecked and crushed people at 22 years old. He may not have backchecked and enjoyed floating, but he never just took getting punched in the face 3 times in the playoffs and laughed while desperately wanting the ref to intervene.

I always wonder at so many people wondering if Keefe is next. He is GONE 100%, he's been gone for weeks. Even if Dubas stayed and the two of them were lovers he would be fired, nobody would bring Keefe back to this team again next year. It may not be announced since there's bigger things going on, but Keefe knows he's done.

Dubas doesn't have much to show for his drafting record as GM either.

At least Lou/Hunter found Woll. Who has Dubas drafted outside of the 1st rd? Hell Sandin and Amirov were the wrong type of picks even without hindsight
Hunter had 27(!!) picks in 3 years to work with. In those 27 selections, he got Marner, Matthews, Liljegren, Woll, Dermott and Grundstrom as regular NHLers. Jury is still out on Woll too, while Dermott and Grundstrom are fringe level replacement players now. Marner was a 4th overall, Matthews a 1st overall that any monkey could've picked, and Liljegren a 17th overall selection, which I'm pretty sure Thommie Bergmann had significant input on.

That is absolutely terrible. Dubas in 2018 alone got Sandin and Durzi with his first two picks, and we also have Holmberg from that draft who looks like he will develop nicely. His drafts since then also have fairly promising players who have performed well at their respective levels. For example, he only had 3 picks in 2021 and managed to get Knies, Ty Voit and Peksa, all of whom are tracking very well.

Not only were Hunter's picks questionable when they were made, they also performed horribly after getting drafted and never had any success at their levels. Many guys who were selected were overage players who were out of the system entirely within only 2 years of being drafted. Colossal waste. We needed these guys to join the team on ELCs to support Matthews and the rest of the core.
