Perhaps his logic goes like this: when I become the boss (the president) I won't have the same pressure as I do as a GM working my ass off. Then his wife is ok as him being the president (anywhere) than as a GM.

The logic is “I wear a suit and I want the big boy pants to match.” And in Pittsburgh he just went from Ron Hextall career level to Brian Burke level. Not bad at all for 37.

I take this all in as sports as drama and entertainment.

Or the difference between a guy that left on his terms and a guy that got thrown to the curb.

Is he the first person to not have his contract renewed in the history of pro sports?

Does that overrule him being given his first NHL a job at 28 as an Assistant GM, then GM a few years later, all along the way being given all the resources in the world to succeed?

Then Shanny sings his praises and endorses him completely when approached by Pittsburgh.

What a load of shit from you.

What did I say that was incorrect or as you phrase it a load of shit.

One guy left on his terms and one guy was told to go home early - before that contract expired even. Expecting them to both react the same way is a bit naive. I am no Dubas fan but we only heard Shanny's side of the story. I am also no fan of Shanny.

Are we so insecure that we need Dubas to say nice things about Toronto after he was fired?

I think it’s clear what happened now.

Pens through back channels offered Dubas the President job. He had that in his back pocket. That’s why he went back and asked for a new financial package.

He wanted similar pay and autonomy as the Pens job.

I thought it was pretty clear a week ago.
Or he had the Pens job in his back pocket the whole time and he lacks sincerity. But the "Leafs fired me" is a wonderful rationalization.

Honest question, what did Dubas do here that was outside the box? We heard this shit before he was hired here, yet I never saw it happen...
Well he was almost out of the box yelling at the Tampa fans, but I guess he knew better.

"He needs to figure out who his goaltender is", "blueline is a problem", "bottom six were putrid".

Sounds just like the Leafs for virtually his whole time here, and he never did fix any of it.
odds of samsonov ending up in Pitts?

Nah. I think he's a liar. Not only did he not stick to his word, but he jumped at the first option available. Says one thing, but does the opposite. An extremely unlikable trait in a person. My initial personal assessment of Kyle seems to played out exactly as I suspected. Really don't like the way he goes about himself.
Completely agree .. one thing about Shanny for all who know him .. outside of his COURAGE which is his strongest trait by far .. he knows how to root out a liar .. he and his wife are those type of people who tell you they love their neighbors and school and want this to be their forever place and then someone else calls and asks him to consider Pittsburgh and he males up some balony story about how he needs time away to reflect and think things through and blah blah blah .. i realize he is under contract and really could not tell da truth which is why he should have taken Shanny's advice and not spoken to media .. as he made himself look like a complete idiot .. Shanny would have respected him much more if he had some of Shanny's courage and just told him he had to think through other options in his career .. clearly he had a chance to make a career move up da corporate world and make much more $$$ .. we have all done it before and it is always hard .. to my old neighbour Dubie next time just tell da truth with your boss and listen to what he tells you to do and your life will be much smoother .. now with market down 20% since you bought I may put in an offer for your place for one of my kids homes

Silver Lining potential.

Well the good news about Dubas signing in Pittsburgh is that at least now we have a realistic potential destination for Matt Murray to go to. ;:wg:

Not only is Matt Murray a former Soo player, but a key (based on past Stanley Cup experience with Pens) and coveted player by Kyle Dubas who he claimed he needed for playoff success for Leafs.

With Pens starting goalie Tristan Jarry a pending UFA, Dubas will be looking for his next goalie, so lets strike while the iron is hot.

I got to admit I was rather indifferent to Shanahan up until recently, but the way he assessed the situation with Dubas playing games in an unprofessional manner and then having the balls to fire him and bring in someone who by all accounts has all the work ethic and character he had when he was playing gives him a lot of props in my books. I am all aboard the Shanahan train now.

Yep. If you connect the dots, this is exactly it.

Anyway.....no worries....this perfidious, ironic-glasses-wearing, ectomorph will fade into obscurity until he returns to Toronto radio as the new Gord Stellick.
