At this juncture, everything depends on Matthews. If the won't resign, this team might as well move Marner too, and rebuild.
Doesn’t sound too worried about future prospects. ‘We will roll’. Also telling that he summarizes with thanks to the folks at the facility.

I liked the guy wish him the best. One understated quality I liked very much about his tenure was his clear understanding that this market can be insufferable at times, and he was constantly mindful of it, protecting and accommodating to players. I think that’s an admirable quality.

Edit to add: I haven’t engaged in too much discussion about the management changes and dynamics, because who really knows what happened over the years. But I hope the next manager possesses a similar vision of top to bottom continuity, because there’s a lot of merit to it.

Fire Shanahan to start with.

He should have done that after the Montreal embarassment.

Hire someone competent to manage the front office. I'm sorry, I don't know who that would be off the top of my head. Maybe Lombardi. He led the King's to a couple cups and is toiling away in Philadelphia right now.

My point, which I apologize for not making clear, is that they kept doing nothing. Running it back over and over and over. At some point Tanenbaum should have said "hey guys, this isn't working, ayne we should try something else".

"Or else...."

Instead they waited too long and now the whole edifice is set to collapse.

If they lose Matthews, that's on Tanenbaum for not taking action earlier, before such a pivotal year for the franchise, with so much on the line.
Ok, I thought you may have been only talking about the last 10 days.

Yes, after Montreal, somethings needed to change (coach IMO). But if GM and Pres wouldn't do anything, perhaps ownership needed to.

Except if you play on the bottom 2 lines 😉

Goalies were always a problem with Dubas

To be fair (and I am completely on the let's shit on Dubas train now) not a lot of options out there.

I mean, thank goodness we didn't re-up with Jack Campbell.

The goalie thing IS absolutely a problem that needs a solution. I like Samsonov and love that he is RFA......So I gotta give some credit there.

It's crystal clear what's going to happen. Shanny hires another puppet GM. Keeps the core untouched and resigns them. Gives them all they ask. Tavares including. Let's say 8x5 years.
Fans still gonna watch games and wait for a playoff miracle every year.

So you believe Dubas was a puppet and it was Shanahan making all the moves from the condo in NYC ?

As if that somehow justifies the signing or the supposed "discount" toronto received in this deal. (A shot at the media who pushed this narrative over the years, not you).
I feel better knowing we're slightly less stupid than the also cup less Sharks. Well done Kyle, take another participation ribbon.

Pure conjecture.
Fine, but so is assuming it didn't happen. We could argue that either way about anything that we don't factually know to be true, and even then some evidentally lol..

We can only judge for ourselves on the level of likely validity.

On the balance, I don't see why it's unlikely to be true. Shanny stated in his presser that he was calling players. What is the message from Shanny going to be on those calls? "Bud, pull up your pants and brace yourself, because I am f***ing taking a flamethrower to this sucker"? (must be said in angry Al Pacino voice)

I mean of course not, he's gonna call and say we're making a change, the organization still believes in you, I'll keep in touch, feel free to reach out if you want. What else would it be?

Doesn't have to be true but that's what you call and say.

Confusion and hurt ripples through Maple Leafs in wake of Kyle Dubas’ dismissal

GettyImages-1255072142-1024x719.jpg

Anger. Confusion. Shock. Disappointment.

Those are some of the feelings reverberating around the Maple Leafs right now in the aftermath of Kyle Dubas’ firing as general manager last week.

The Athletic reached out to several people who work for the Leafs this week. Anonymity was granted to them as they were not permitted by the team to speak to the media.

This story reflects their feelings at the moment and speaks to a level of disillusionment that team president Brendan Shanahan and the next GM of the Leafs will have to work to unwind.

“I’m in mourning right now,” one person who worked in the front office with Dubas during his time with the Leafs said.

There’s a real sense of loss for staff members. Dubas was their leader and the one who hired many of them. Suddenly, he was gone a week after the season came to an end – and without, in their minds, a satisfactory explanation as to why.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” a Leafs front office member said of the way Dubas was let go. “That’s why it’s disappointing.”

Shanahan went from wanting to bring Dubas back to firing him in a matter of days. And then offered his version of events in a press conference that left people inside the organization confused and upset.

........................

It’s security they have because of Dubas.

Though he wasn’t offered an extension himself, not until after the trade deadline, Dubas fought to extend staff members who entered last season with expiring contracts. He got them extended with one, two, and three-year deals.

At least one staff member was inclined to ride things out with Dubas for an uncertain year. Dubas insisted — take the security, protect your family.

“Don’t worry about me,” he told his people. “I’ll be OK.”

Those close to Dubas insist they liked working for him. Dubas put them first and had clearly grown into his leadership role.

Holl would look great in a Penguins jersey. Know what I mean?
So would Murray. Hell, we've already seen how good Murray looks in the Penguin's jersey, and Dubas may think that he'd immediately solidify Pittsburgh's crease, and let Jarry go.

C'mon Kyle, we can re-unite you with your wunder-goalie for a measly 2nd rounder, which is a pittance compared to what you were rumored to want to pay for a UFA washed up MAF.

To Pittsburgh:
Dubas
Keefe
Murray
Holl
Kerfoot

Dude immediately makes them Stanley Cup favorites with his new "Core 4".

Ok, this is fun now....... :)

So the mentally weak and entitled minions are also plaguing the organization throughout, and not just with our Limp Bizkit's on the ice?

Here's a thought, oh mentally fragile Dubas organizational hires: do your jobs, be damn good at it, work hard, demonstrate that you belong in your role and continue to earn it, and then you have nothing to be worried about.

People other than Kyle Dubas can recognize and appreciate when someone is good at what they do. It's the hangers on and the dead weight who deserve to be nervous, and don't belong in our organization anyways. Dubas is welcome to take them with him.

Honestly, what a bunch of sniveling pu$$ies. Welcome to the real world, where your boss is much more likely to change positions than you, multiple times over, and you have to demonstrate your worth each and every day, each and every time.

Fack, what a bunch of soft-asses......

Yeah, it appears everybody liked Dubas....and nobody has ever liked Shanahan (I always heard that when Shanahan played, most of his teammates hated him).

Everything Shanahan said in his press conference is BS. The firing had nothing to do with Dubas talking to his family, and nothing to do with money.

The two of them have obviously been at odds for a long time. They likely had major disagreements on the direction of the team, and in particular how to improve the team.

Shanahan has always stated that the core players will definitely not be traded. He continues to say that. The core players are his baby.

It's likely that Dubas has wanted to make a major trade (like he said in his presser), and Shanahan said no. That's most likely their issue, Dubas was not permitted to trade any of the core players.
