Here is how the Calgary Flames did with Brad Treliving as their GM:

2014-2015: Lose in the 2nd round
2015-2016: Miss the playoffs
2016-2017: Get swept in the 1st round
2017-2018: Miss the playoffs
2018-2019: Lose in the 1st round
2019-2020: Lost in the 1st round after winning the qualifying round
2020-2021: Miss the playoffs
2021-2022: Lose in the 2nd round
2022-2023: Miss the playoffs

Leafs fans should be more concerned with the loser GM they just hired to replace Dubas rather than coming to shit talk Dubas here.

I’ve followed dubas tenure with the leafs closely and I can’t imagine a better person than Kyle dubas to lead your team into the next tanking phase. his trade history is impeccable like top hits kadri for Barrie and kerfoot or his penchant love for small hockey players Marchment for malgin. But that’s not all. Expect 1st rders to be traded for injured nick foligno’s at the deadline or his best song catelogue “I love injury prone goalies and can’t play half a season”.

inherited a matthews, nylander and marner on ELC’s and a taveras landed on his lap and got an amazing 1 playoff round win in 5 years against a depleted blue Line in Tampa.

its a great hire, I promise! :)
Thank you for sharing your insight, Leafs fan.
Now people can feel comfortable with the accuracy of their beliefs when they're the polar opposite of yours.
I feel even more reassured now about this hiring.

Well, Dubas is a good hire. Excited about this.

Let's see what Sullivan can do with a better roster. No excuses for him this year. Dubas and whoever ends up being the gm are almost certainly going to build out a better roster than Hextall gave him, so if they suck again, that's on Sully. I don't foresee the Dubas regime making a lot of boneheaded moves.
I wonder what Pens look like if we hired MacFarland instead of Hextall? that guy brought Avs some nice talent.

His answer about the bottom six was also refreshing, because the Pens have not had that concept the last few years. The bottom six has not adequately supported the top six at all. They simply haven't been good enough.

Their bottom-6 in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 were both extremely solid. Last year was the first year where their bottom-6 was actively hurting them.

They get what? One more chance with Trevil before Matthews goes to Arizona?

Apologize if repost:

Honestly this one would surprise me a bit. I would have expected Spezza to see if he could get into the Senators management staff over coming to Pittsburgh.

I know Spezza and Dubas are super close, but I also figured that Spezza would really want to go back to the Senators to join their front office.

There's a few people saying some dude named Lawrence is in the running for GM because his approach/vision seems to align well with Dubas'. I'm too lazy to find the tweet, just trust me bro.

-edit- Cam Lawrence apparently. No f***ing idea who he is, but that's probably a good thing.

It honestly is refreshing to have a well spoken gm. We haven't had that since....Shero lol. whoever mentioned that earlier in the thread, I'm 100% with you on that.

Shero at least always gave me the illusion that he had a well thought out plan and that he would stick to it. I never felt that from JR or Hextall. JR was obviously successful as hell for a few years and I'll always appreciate that, but it felt like he was just swinging wildly and hit home run after home run lol.

50 slide power points are like undergrad final presentation level, man.
My thesis draft was 250 pages. My committee said flat-out "no". Had to rewrite. The defense took 30 minutes and the PP was 15 slides.

I'm hoping Dubas is getting open-mindedness and support. I assume he heard all about the "it's in my head" crap and figured that wasn't going to fly.

His first order of business should be:

"Hey Bryan, Kyle! How's your off season going? Uh huh...uh huh...listen, shut up for a second. Would you be willing to waive your NMC?"

"Hey Jeff, Kyle! How's your off-season going? Don't care. Would you be willing to waive your NMC? You won't see ice time in a Penguins uniform."

Spezza is still relatively new to working in hockey ops. He could spend time here doing stuff to build out his resume towards eventually taking the Ottawa job.

Can you imagine if your big flex as a fanbase is "we've been around a really long time!"

Cool. I bet most people under the age of 60 wouldn't even recognize 2/3rds of that team's all time players. Aside from Tim Horton but only because of pisswater coffee and stale donuts.

Darcy Tucker was just great, though. Really. What a guy.

This is exactly how presentations should be. Cut the fat and be as concise as possible.

Unless you're giving a multiple hour presentation, there is no excuse to have more than like 20 slides for a presentation.

Smart guy, bad team-building philosophy. The "build from the net out and Sid and Geno have to make due with less" was the wrong stance to take all o those prime years.

Yeah I think this is valid too and the likely long-term plan for him. I imagine he'll come in as an assistant GM but will eventually be focused on moving towards a GM opportunity in Ottawa.

I mean they won 3 cups due to Shero's philosophy so hard to say it was bad.

Depends on the number of pictures and graphs. I think I had more words in my introduction than my entire PP.

One.

JR coming in and providing depth scoring suddenly won us 2 cups. That's what was always missing from the 2010-2015 years. Well that and goaltending.

I heard about him after Hextall was let go. He seems like a a good fit.

It's one Leaf's fan who I ignored after it became clear he was basking in the negative reactions.
