Btw this whole thing shows FSG is either an extremely tight ship and/or they are masters at media obfuscation. No media, except for Maddens one anonymous source, had this and guys like Friedman and Seravali were totally in the dark. The fact that this was announced in the morning with Dubas in town and a press conference ready to go shows that this has basically been a done deal for a while.

@ColePens i’m train posting and in the mountains to boot so I’m sending my posts in via carrier pigeon.

I dunno yinz. I don’t think Dubas has as much control as yinz think he does.
Maybe, but FSG would have that control no matter who we hire. And at least Dubas showed he gives a rat's ass in the press conference. I'm not expecting bullshit like "I like our team right now, I just dont like how we lose a lot sometimes" from Dubas' mouth.

I don't know how anyone else can explain it to you better.

Dubas is in charge of all of hockey operations. He will be building the front office to suit his vision. He reports directly to ownership. There is no one above him like there was in Toronto.

He will decide what the front office looks like, whether that includes a GM or a bunch of assistant GMs.

I mean the whole thing about Sullivan being a forever coach is a giant red flag. I dunno, I think people are just lying to themselves, but who am I to shit on Santa Claus, I guess?

I really liked his answer on the goalies as well. Dubas said that theyll make a list of available goalies in FA/Trade and see how Jarry ranks on that list. He wont just be re-signing him because of familiarity
Yup, they have the book that is just updated over the course of a year. They know all the Pending FA's, the draft, potential trade partners etc.

Many were in such a hurry to get it done thinking we were missing out on something.

Pens fans should be exicited not just for Dubas but we should ice a competitive team for the rest of the Malkin Crosby years. FSG, Dubas and Sully seem to all be on the same page

Man, watch granlund and petry get traded, capnspace gets set aside for next offseason, Matthews signs in pittsburgh and the city of Toronto burns itself to the ground in response.

We can have Emp and Aurora write Grandlund a Letter of Recommendation...

No really, he was a 60pt player on the top line (he just needs PP time)
No really, his defense is great.
No really, he can win a puck battle (small test: in a beer league)
No really, he's just misused...

All kidding aside, he seems miles better than Hextall.

I think Dubas will have the power to fire Sully if this team goes into another tailspin and he pins coaching as an issue (which it will be).

I just don't have faith that Dubas or anyone else would immediately pin Sullivan as a problem if, for example, he rode GCRust to another miserable 20 games.

I know what the structure is, DP, much like you know how much you love the front office already. I just don’t believe it does anything productive.

Can someone tell me what Pridham does and why we should snag him out of TO? keep hearing that name.
His primary responsibility is being the Leafs' cap guru. He was able to manipulate the cap to give them a lot of flexibility down the stretch the last few years.

Well it's nice to have a well-spoken guy that can articulate his plan.

But literally everything else is speculative so I'll start waiting for the hirings and firings to see what's up. Major rot on this team that extends way beyond the roster so we'll see how much are words and how much is sincere. "Extended evaluation processes" are not an option, here.

I think a discussion about whether he has the power to fire Sullivan is moot because there is no way he's going to fire Sullivan.

I don't know what additional evidence Penguins fans need to realize that Sullivan is insanely highly regarded among NHL executives and isn't going anywhere.

He's supposedly a very good numbers guy who is an expert with the cap and doing cap gymnastics.
Thanks, so he's another Botterill.

He has a lot of room to work his magic here if he gets the job. Thanks.

Looks like the moon is out of reach then buddy
Give me the nuke launch codes and we’ll take care of that problem post haste. Moon has it coming if you ask me.
Sullivan isn't going to get fired, people. The sooner you come to terms with that, the sooner you'll get over it.
I would mind it a lot less if Sullivan remembered how to coach an exciting game of hockey again.

Man, just when I was getting my hopes up for some exciting hockey.

This team has played boring ass slop hockey since 2017, but some of yinz like it and I hate you for it.

Your hate is what keeps me so jolly and full of energy, so this works for everyone.

And by everyone, I mean me.

He wasn't firing a coach and you don't shit talk a future coworker.

I think he mentioned all the right things focused on being competitive but acknowledging a rebuild is coming.

I appreciate he talked about goaltending and every other part of the lineup. He has 20 million of cap space. We know that can go fast but from the talk mentioned a possible new top 6 addition and perhaps a new defensemen?

I do believe he can do a good job. I felt he did a good job in Toronto. I really wish we could have saw more but I believe he didn't want Shanahan telling him what he can't do anymore.

Hope they give him green lights on everything.
