He isn’t the only one, but yes, there a few guys who would find a way to justify anything Kyle Clueless does, even if it were to be something like flipping a 1st rounder for a 2nd rounder straight up.
Its what he represents (progressive) that fans will defend. If an old school type were making these exact moves the media and fanbase would run him out of town.

Not sure I understand him playing hardball with two FREE ASSETS.

even if you make the argument about those late picks, say a 5th and 6th rounder turning into meaningful players ...... blah blah blah

this situation to me more or less has to do with Dubas finally growing a backbone and playing hardball over an 8th year of a contract for a player not on his team, and a team not is his conference or division.

........ where was that courage and hardline tactics during his negotiations with his RFA's??

He just looks foolish playing hardball in such a nothing scenario trying to save face like he is a seasoned negotiator

Basically this.

Its either get a late round pick or nothing and dubas has chosen nothing.

Somehow his fan club is convinced its a good move lmao

Feels more and more like gambling now.
There's no way Dubas could convince us that gutting almost two years worth of picks is part of any plan.

For this four headed monster plan to work, those <1m contracts should be coming from our farm system. It would allow the team to trade Hyman, etc a year out before losing them to free agency knowing a replacement is ready to step in. Instead we end up with this:

Kämpf, David
Bunting, Michael
Gabriel, Kurtis
Amadio, Michael
Biega, Alex

or last years disaster:

Joe Thornton
Wayne Simmonds
Travis Boyd
Jimmy Vesey
Mikko Lehtonen
Alexander Barabanov

Rough first day of free agency. I know negativity is not encouraged here but still.

Being realistic is not being negative.

being optimistic also doesn't mean you cannot be realistic.

moronic optimism can lead to absolute stupidity!!!

Ex:

Person A: I am really optimisitic I will get a 250K job next month so I am going to borrow 100K eventhough I do not have a job.

Friend of A: don't do that; thats just not right. you don't even have any qualifications to get a 50K job

Person A: Why you gotta be so negative?

Do you see the problem here?

Yep. And everyone agreed, only way his top heavy model works is a steady influx of young cheap kids filling holes. After this year, when our prospect pools looks like the Matt Frattin days, perhaps it will sink in what’s happened here.

On paper, this is defintiely not a contender team going into next season. If they don't make the playoff or can't advance to the second round next year, plus Dubas still refuse to break the core after. This team is pretty much done and no hope. We will just be watching Mattews and Marner to walk for nothing. This team likes to do this anyway.

I don't think you have a clue about the prospect pool if that is your assessment

Omg that’s funny. Wait until we graduate Sandin, Lil and Roberstson this year and we drop to bottom third ranking.

I don't think Robertson will be graduated.

Amirov is still a blue-chip.

Then there is the second tier of quality players. Unlike in the past, we have a large number of good prospects. Maybe the absolute top end will be lacking, but we have a good prospect pool.

Are we sure thats not what it looks like now?

What are Sandin, Robertson, Amirov really?

Sandin (Possible top four)
Robertson (Possible top nine)
Amirov - (Possible top nine)
Liljegren (A failed pick who Dubas hasn't sent out for some reason - Probably because he made the selection)

Surrounded by years of drafting 5'9-5'10 D and forwards?

Okay @DarkKnight, this guys take is worse than yours.

Every organization has prospects, we don’t operate in a vaccum. Like I said, after this year, there isn’t much relative to other teams. We used to play this game all the time, over inflating our prospect pool, then when we actually had one it looked embarrassing.
