If you can't see the difference between a Matthews/McDavid and a player like Hyman, then I honestly don't know what to tell you.

I can see a difference, but at what point do you just say f*** it and take whatever is offered and when do you play hardball and demand value?

Is a top 6 forward not enough to demand value?

If I value my relationship with coworkers, and want to be owed a favor, I take it since it doesn't hurt me.

If I want to be a man child I'd pout like Dubas did and make sure to get nothing out of it

A lot of hoopla over getting a 7th.

Dubas set his value at a 4th, Holland didn’t want to pay the price. Bending on your value is worse for your reputation than the benefits of “being owed a favour”.
If Dubas could've trade Hyman elsewhere I'd agree with you. But in a situation like this, where Hyman is going to Edmonton regardless, acting like a spoiled child is pointless.

He could either get a pick and an I owe ya one, or ruin his reputation to get some kind of weird status as a tough negotiator (which is hilarious, because Matthews and Marner bent him over in their negotiations)

Are his chances worse then his superstars hair line or is he not quite there yet?

There really is no evidence that he ruined his reputation

Again, he set his price, it wasn’t met, everyone moved on. A 7th is much more than nothing, so it really is a moot point that didn’t change his reputation around the league.

It’s not surprising the names of posters who are pushing this narrative.

And what exactly did he set a high price for? Answer: His ego.

He didn't want to feel like another team was getting one over on him and put his own pride above helping his own team by gaining an asset for nothing. Sounds like a guy who is difficult to deal with and might have difficulty finding trade partners.

Luckily he was a stick in the mud since the prospect the Oilers took with that pick was just named OHL player of the week.

Weird…. Maximus Wanner plays in the WHL

How is a mid round pick for a top 6 winger sign and trade, which as far as I know would be the first ever or in a long time, too high of a price?

Why is he a spoiled child? Edmonton wanted the 8th year to bring his cap hit down. Why is Dubas doing HIM the favour?

The way @JKG33 paints his little picture makes it seem like the spoiled child would be the other GM, no? Whining about another team not taking a pick to do them a favour and then crying about it to other GM' s in an attempt to alter Dubas' reputation sounds like a hissy fit from the oilers side.

(not saying this actually happened, i doubt any actual GM gave a f***. Including Edmonton and Torontos front offices, who clearly moved on more than the usual suspects on HF boards.)

Dubas gains nothing by being a dick here, that's my point. He could either get a win-win or a lose-lose... he picked the latter for no real reason other than to big dog a more experienced and respected GM

How do you know a 6th round pick was offered?

Lmao a f***ing 6th, people here complain about a late 1st but all of a Sudden Dubas is an idiot for not doing another team a favor by saving them cap space for a f***in 6th round pick LOL my goodness.

I feel like youre making everything up here and presenting it as fact.

Dubas being a dick, you just made that up to prop up your made up point of view. Nobody has called Dubas a dick and here you are saying it like its a fact that he was a dick in a deal that didnt go through, then pretending he did it "for no real reason other than to big dog a more experienced and respected GM" is again making shit up and pretending its a fact.
