I don't have the numbers to back this up but I bet the teams that have won the most cups have been built from the goalie out, not from 4 forwards in. I hope it works but I haven't actually seen a lot of teams win big that were built Kyle's way.

There's an infinite number of ways to build a winning team, but the combination of a salary cap and the law of diminishing returns makes our current makeup particularly tricky.

I was ecstatic he would no longer haunt us when it really mattered anymore. After watching what we have the last few weeks the thrill has gone. The thrill has gone away.

Saw Bill Armstrong grinning from ear-to-ear during an in-between periods interview tonight over using the 2nd in the Ritchie deal to get Jack McBain. I think he thinks that was the trade of the year. I love the Leafs, but I think he's more right than believing getting Lyubushkin to bury a bad contract qualifies that way.

EDIT: Right after my post, Ritchie came in alone and scored. Their broadcast team was raving about how terrific he's been since coming over from the Leafs.
They didn’t use “the second in the Ritchie deal” to trade for McBain. They dealt away one of their 2022 2nds. If they select the 2nd from the leafs it’ll be one in 2025. Otherwise it’s a 23 3rd.

Don't tell me, tell Armstrong. If you have the game on demand, watch his interview between 1st and 2nd period. He referenced using the 2nd they got in the Ritchie deal for McBain.

He’s a moron then who can’t keep track of his picks.

Strange that there is this sense of impending doom hanging over what has been--on its surface--a wildly successful regular season. Seems nobody feels confident about the prospect of getting that first round monkey off our backs, myself included. And why should we with the murderers row of the Atlantic awaiting us?

The whole thing is very demoralizing coming off the soul-crushing disappointment of last year's playoff collapse--which was, of course, just the latest chapter in the Russian tragedy of Leafs futility.

Still, as frustrating as it is, I can't bring myself to support the idea of giving Dubas the axe if this year's postseason goes the way we all fear. Despite the missteps, I think there is enough promise in the body of work to stay the course with this leadership group and let them continue to try to work this puzzle.
“…the latest chapter in the Russian tragedy of Leaf’s futility” 🙏🤣 Respect, the best line on Leaf fortune I’ve read in years! Well done.

Looks like Boston has caught us. We will probably be a wildcard team by the end of the week……..great job Dubas keep up the good work..
what a mess but I guess some people thinks that’s a wildly successful regular season…….sad how low the bar has fallen

Am I the only one who is kinda bored with regular season now? I think the players share my opinion.

Lets start the playoffs as soon as possible, the season, regular that is, is just way too long

And while we are on the subject of boring.

Arizona, bleats for years, that they have no money, going out of business, but two years of no crowds, pandemic etc...

and they didn't entertain us, with a bankruptcy?

Bah, bring on the playoffs, would love to see Curtis Douglas play against the Bruins. Guy has a professional right hand, and can apparently skate, bring him on.

Which means they also caught Tampa, really low bar ... sad!

If weren't first in the division it doesn't matter if we're second or fourth. In any case we will play against elite team on first round. Best case scenario would be Toronto - Boston on first round, but still everything is open. We will be playing Florida three times and anything can happen.

I mean. you're the one who started all this with a "LOL" response, are throwing laughing emojis around but have never even commented on why I was wrong at all. I already explained my reasons....and my opinion on the trades can even change if Gio/Black are busts here or Boosh crashes out (although thats still a minor win no matter what IMO, its the fact he looks good as a regular that pushes it to amazing). As it stands, I love both those trades and most around here are at least positive about both. There were so many bad trades out there for the deadline, it would be pretty easy to show why those two were among the best overall....but thats a lot of work, especially when dealing someone who wont even give a clue as to why they got worked up in the first place.....
But I did comment on why, read my previous post again.

Yes it would be a lot of work for you to show why, I understand why you don't want to take the time and that's fine because all you could do is explain why you feel the way you do, proving anything isn't possible anyway as it's subjective to a degree. You have your opinion and that's fine, we're all entitled to our opinions.

LOL "worked up", all I did was state the obvious - calling these trades two of the best all year is hyperbole and comes across as extreme homerism. If anyone is "worked up" then it's you but there's no need, we're just talking hockey here.

Just to be clear, I've already said I'm very happy with the Gio trade, I just think calling it one of the best trades of the year across the entire league is a bit much (and the same goes for the Ritchie deal).

Candidates will emerge, a lot of GM's will be let go as well or resign and some new ones will appear

Out of all years, this is the year I am least optmistic about. Even last year, the idea of playing the Habs was exciting, something the Leafs haven't done in long time. I thought that was it, the series the Leafs needed. An original 6 against our biggest rival would get the hump over

Not only it didn't, we lost again in an embarrasing way. It may not be your fault but if you are the captain of the ship, it is your responsibility

There are those think it always has to be one or the other. If we get rid of Dubas we have to get some dinasour, someone old. No you don't. You can get another up and coming GM but someone who has been in the league, someone who understand the city and has feel for the game

People always compare look at Joe, it took him 6 years with the Avs. Joe Sakic is a Colorado legend, he gets a bigger leash than Kyle Dubas who quit Pee Wee hockey. Joe has already brought them their cups many times

If Kyle did that I would have given him all the time in the world. If we lose out in the first round, that will be 4th year in a row. Even vet GM's who won in this league were fired for less

Heck, I would I would call up Doug Gilmour to save this city again

I have nothing personal against Kyle but this city and team is way over his head.
You.. you think Joe Sakic deserved to have a longer leash because.. he played high level hockey?? Is this not the very definition of nepotism and old boys club culture? wtf, screw that.

2nd gives us home ice not only in 1st round, but possibly in subsequent rounds. Carolina commentator Tripp Tracy was hammering this point last night that you want to finish as high as you can in the standings for home ice in the playoffs. Said it wasn't that important in first two rounds, which I found odd, but then said it was very important in conference final and finals. Finishing 2nd in Atlantic might mean 3rd overall in the East. We want to finish ahead of the Pens and Rangers, if possible. I'd like the Canes in Round 1, but that means dropping out of Top 3.

Be nice to have a potential Game 7 at home for once.

Kyle is a top 5 gm in the league that's for sure. He is arguably the best drafting Gm, and the moves he makes are good. Gio trade was great.

I wouldn't call the regular season wildly successful, more like ho-hum since we're 6th overall ATM which is where we've mostly been sitting for years now.

I feel the same way about Dubas. I can understand wanting to dump him but unless we have someone really good to take over (doubtful), not a good idea. I would like to ask him what his vision is for the future though and if his plan is to stick with this core no matter what, then I may indeed consider replacing him because I think he needs to be more flexible than that.

Ya fire Dubas, and give the job to Gilmour. Good grief.

I would imagine a draft guru that can't draft isn't getting many calls
It is not very likely to occur but not for reasons you think. Da Hunter boys share a 3-4M per year profit in London. To entice him to leave you have to be a "in da money" NHL team (which there are only 7-10 of them) which can afford to pay him 2M per like Leafs did. Really you are talking about TO, Habs, Rangers, Vegas, Philli, Hawks and a couple others. Even Dubie is nowhere near that salary threshold but he is much younger too.

He sure is! :)

you're still wrong. not sure what posting the clip changes? it was factually not that pick.

I think what Armstrong is saying using the word "basically" in there is that getting the extra second allowed them to make the McBain trade.

Still wrong? Never was. You "think" what Armstrong was saying? That's fine if you interpret it that way. I just told you what he said. He tied the 2nd from the Ritchie deal into landing McBain. No debate about that whatsoever.

yes still. it wasn't that pick, no matter how much you want it to be for your little Dubas anecdote.

this is the extent of me caring about your wrongness on this though, a couple of posts is enough.
