The goalie tdl decision may end up being one of the most controversial of his career as Leafs GM and certainly opens it up for counterfactuals. That said, it wasn't as if quality goalies we're actually available.

His direct call-out of the Hawks GM was pretty interesting. Davidson being new on the job himself isn't going to make many friends among GMs being a leaky ship with the media. Rare thing to see a GM take a public criticism like that

Dubas' first mistake was expecting professionalism out of the Blackhawks organization...

All kidding aside, I think when Harri Sateri is being lost on waiver claims, pretty good indication that there aren't a ton of free and easy goaltending to be hand in the NHL at the moment.

I'm starting to see Kyle as an actuary and in the most pejorative sense. The question about how far he got down the road with Fleury was quite revealing. He was livid that Kyle Davidson released that information. Why? Because, it blows his cover with his guys and makes him look bad that he didn't get it done. It's a double whammy in the PR arena. One, now he has to try and sell his goalies on him not really wanting to bring anyone else in when they already know that isn't true. Two, he has to explain why he didn't get him when another team did. He swung and missed and didn't want to talk about the swing at all. I thought it was a bad look for him to say what he said of Kyle Davidson. No reason to bring that up other than to deflect having to answer the question by directing angst toward him. Reminds of a guy who's trying hard to sell life insurance policies knowing he's never going to pay out.

When you hear him say the word "belief" you can translate that as...if they're anywhere in this organization, he believes in them, so that's a pretty empty and generic use of "belief". If he believes in this group, it rings hollow. Do you believe in Michael Hutchinson? He does. That sure takes the shine off hearing him believing in anything else.

Watching his presser he looked like a defeated man. He knows the other teams did things and he left gaping holes especially in goal. When you hear someone speak you either get the sense they really believe what they're saying, or they just want you to believe they believe what they're saying. This time I got a strong sense he doesn't believe much of what he was saying in those 20 minutes in front of the media.

I take solace in the fact he "believes" in Knies and Abruzzese but when I think about how he believes in everything and anything else, I become uncomfortable.

The one thing I do like is no 1st went out the door, nor any legit prospect. Colin Blackwell is my kind of player, stature notwithstanding. Love, love, love players like him. He was with Gourde in Seattle and got a close up look on how to play psychotic hockey. Gourde was one of my favorites in the league in Tampa. A machine on the ice. A lot of Leafs losses are hard to take because often they're uninspired losses. Blackwell won't play that way and hopefully his energy is catchy. One slug can poison a team and one go getter can inspire it. I'm more excited about him than Giordano.

Soon, "I believe in this group." may conjure echoes of "Keep grindin'" and "Steady on the rudder".

Is this Kyle's last stand? Maybe. Just ask him.

No chance, Dubas is no idiot. Kyle knows he would have a better chance winning a Powerball lottery than having someone claim Mr. Rebound and his $3.8M anchor for the next two seasons.
It's crazy to me that he didn't just do what he's been doing all trade season and kill two birds with one stone

You want a first for MAF and I don't want to pay it? How about take a 4th as well and get Petr off my hands as well

Did that to perfection with the gio and Ritchie deals and getting the sweetener

Any another Leaf GM who is feeling the heat for his job, would have probably done a Fleury Hagel for Mrazek Knies +1st deal.

Got to respect the balls on Dubas for holding onto key Leafs assets.
no way. that is a total rip off. dont even think nonis would do that lol

I believe you’re full of shit, so there’s that. Is someone in management supposed to say they don’t have faith in the players in their organization? It’s such a weird thing where a bunch of you try to hang Kyle with the answers he gives to the media, as if he didn’t apprentice under Lou and work in the same organization as Masai.

The only person I would want to see replace Dubas is Choclair

how about goldust

He can win Robertson Cups there, but he will likely become a GM of another NHL team if he gets fired or chooses to leave Toronto.

Some small market progressive team like Carolina will snatch him up and tell him they don't have cash to throw at signing bonuses so no big contracts. GM of the year for the next decade.

He would be my pick for running an expansion draft + year 1-3 of the build before handing it over to a finisher like Burke or Rutherford but not senile.

Joe Sakic, everyone’s favourite executive these days tried handing Kyle the keys to the Denver castle before being denied and keeping the job himself.
Kyle wouldn’t be unemployed for long, and neither would the coach for that matter.

Dubas is a guy if he gets fired in Toronto (which I doubt happens) he will go somewhere else and win multiple cups

It’s possible that he has learned from the mistakes he has made here and applies those lessons in the future. I’d be ok if he stayed even after a first round exit, but he would have to demonstrate that he has learned something by moving one of Nylander or Marner and also by unloading some of his buddies like Keefe, Holl, Engvall, etc.

Poile’s been in charge of Nashville since their inception, they could hand the keys off to Kyle and have 2 quality GM’s for like fifty years

I think many of you that are calling for Dubas to be fired would be very disappointed by whomever his replacement ends up being

Analogous to staying at your current job even though you hate it but it has security. At some point, you want more than just making what you currently do and that requires taking a chance.
