The jumping through hoops that some people do here to try and talk bad about a player/person is ridiculous.

There is no way Kadri fetches you a "stud" d-man with term.

These are the same kind of people that call Nylander lazy, soft, heartless, ect... and then say trade him for a top pairing defenseman? Which is it? Does he have value or not?

Logic isn't part of their world.

You have to admit watching high offense games is fun. Leafs are doing what they do best and that's score.

So you’re saying the coach that Dubas brought in to the franchise, then convinced him to stick around to coach the Marlies after having received offers to coach other NHL teams, and then hired him for the Leafs... is doing exactly what Dubas intended him to do?

Yeah he seemed pretty far off on both takes.

I will say this, I am damn happy him and his team drafted Robertson \

That kid will be a stud!

Starting to like a lot of what he's done with Keef and the Marlies, but when you look at the big picture it's hard to argue that he's improved the NHL team overall or accomplished anything of significance since he took over. Defense was considered the biggest issue 2 years ago and it's still a complete disaster, he was supposed to get us past the 1st round and now we're a bubble playoff team. I think he deserves another year if we go out with a wimper again this spring, but if the d corps is still crap come 2021 he should be fired.

What he's doing with Keefe and the Marlies, draft etc. IS the big picture . Some of your solutions are already there.

Yup hopefully, time will tell in the next 1-2 years.
That's the thing. People just need a little patience. He's only been at the helm a little over a year. He's had to deal with getting rid of the brutal contracts, getting the stars signed, next up is D and backup G. Some of the solutions are in house but not quite ready yet. Even the PF or Hyman like solutions may well be in house as well as some of the "grit" people are after. The top teams (Chicago, Pittsburgh etc.) Took years to develop. People sometimes lose sight of the fact that they were several years into their builds and their top guys arrived at the end. Ours arrived at the front and are still learning.

He completely revamped the defense though.

Our issues back then was we didn't have any good RHD or any RHD depth, we didn't have a true shutdown pair, we didn't have a lot of transition D. Now we've addressed all that with the additions of Muzzin, Holl, Barrie, Ceci.

For the first time in 10+ years, we finally have a true shutdown pairing.

Our defense is actually fine, it's our team defense that needs work. A LOT of our goals against are due to forwards cheating in their own zone or losing their coverage. This includes Matthews/Nylander, Tavares/Marner, Kerfoot/Kapanen, etc.

It's funny (and a little sad) but forward D has always been an issue.

Who is our shutdown pair again? And yea you're right a lot of it is on the forwards.

We can debate all day about missing a backup goalie or a RHD or team toughness, but that's all in pursuit of the perfect roster which frankly doesn't exist. Every team has weaknesses. You know what almost no teams in the league have though? The star talent AND depth the Leafs currently have. This is unquestionably the best roster we've had in ages and Dubas is one of the main reasons why. Be happy about that and stop finding reasons to complain. This roster is absolutely good enough to win in the playoffs. Hockey's a tough sport to win at and it also requires a lot of luck compared to other pro sports so all we can do is keep putting ourselves in a position to contend which is exactly what Dubas has done.

Muzzin-Holl. Unfortunately Muzzin is aging and we probably won't have him locked after this year.

It'll be interesting to see what Dubas and Keefe do with that, as I think that is the only thing concerning about the D-group. Will Dubas be able to re-sign Muzzin to a 2 or 3 year contract (before he declines very hard)? Will Dubas be able to replace Muzzin if he leaves? Will Sheldon Keefe be able to transform one of our promising LHD Dermott, Sandin or Rielly into the true shutdown LHD? This off-season should be very interesting.

Positive
Signed JT, AM, Marner Nylander, AJ and Kap
Fired Babcock
Able to Deal Zaitsev and not retain
Won a Calder Cup for Marlies
Made Keefe HC

Negative
He overpaid for AM, Marner and Nylander 2-3 million total
We are in one of the worst Cap crunches of any NHL teams
Back up goalie situation

His record speaks for itself from Cup Contender to playoff pretender, he's stolen our hopes and dreams in just two years. Sad really sad but the Record speaks for itself.

I wish Dubas had been the guy from day 1. Imagine if Dubas had 8+ draft picks the last few years and multiple 1st and 2nd rounders.
Imagine if Dubas relied on developing players rather than signing Marleau and trading high picks for 4th line centers.
Marleau + Boyle + Plekanec for a 2nd, 2nd & 1st to get rid of Marleau...ouch.

What he did to fix the mistakes of his predecessor was pretty remarkable. But, yeah, we'd have a lot more "free capital" to have improved the team if he hadn't needed to have. This team would not only be 1-2 years ahead, but the peak over this whole 10 year period would have been both higher, and sustainable for longer.

37 goals for in our 7 game point streak and Dave poulin is on TSN saying the league is adjusting to us. Yeah adjusting for scoring abuses against them i guess. 23 goals against us in that stretch for a + 14 over 7 games. Or if you prefer, we will beat you by 2 goals a game :)

Really damn stupid the complaints you read a-lot about our defense. We aren’t a defensive team! We are now the second highest scoring team in the league at 1 goal behind Washington. Defense always tightens up down the stretch the last thirty so i expect we will tighten up more as we go. Plus we will likely be the highest scoring team in the league.

good job by the G.M

What morons.

Rangers had zero answer for the third period domination. They stood around wishing the 20 minutes will end.

I don't understand how that's adjusting.

Its really astonishing listening to the games being called and the B.S they will stoop to in trying to belittle our Leafs. I find it both annoying and interesting. I’m happy as a pig in mud as a fan and they are slinging it so good deal for me all round. F@#k i like kickin a$$ lol
