Dubas messed up these situations , True or False?

1) Backup goalie situation
2)Marner Contract
3)Matthews Contract
4) Nylander Contract
5) Cap Space (see #2,#3,#4)
6)Signing Ceci(#1 worst contract value on the team @ 4.5)
7) Kadri for Barrie rental and Kerfoot (#2 worst value contract @ 3.5 per).

My issue with the declining results argument is
1. Progress is not linear
2. The script has not been written on the season, especially not after a measly 23 games where the problem was then removed.

I'm sure from when the Caps drafted Ovie and the Blues drafted Pietrangelo it was a straight line up to the top from there, right?

Also:

1. We were better last year than the year prior, and only shootout luck made it look otherwise.

2. We may yet be better this year than we were last year.

Imo thats the biggest legit criticsm for Dubas this past offseason.

I get that the Marner negotiations may have tied up the team from making some moves because if cap uncertainty, however, there was room after to make a deal.

Still time to fix that mistake though

This gets my hair up on the back of my kneck every time we talk about the cap space we don't have.
Blame f***ing Marner
What about starting off by saying if Mathews didn't take 11.6 for 5 yrs and signed for 10.6 mil for 5 yrs .
Then Marner probably takes 9.8 mil for 6.
If Mathews had have signed for 6 yes then it would have been 12 mil keep that in mind.

Stop f***ing bring up Marner Christ .
Iam f***ing tired of the bullshit .

Pretty much this, the Matthews deal set a bunch of things in motion. The other is they didn't seriously negotiate with either Marner and Matthews like they should have last off-season because they didn't want Marner's number driving up Nylander, so they wouldn't sign him first. So, Marner basically opens the year with JT, gets hot and decides he isn't going to negotiate in-season.

Are we better off when Dubas lets JVR, Bozak, Komarov, Gardiner etc etc all walk for nothing, and then turns around and trade 1st 2019 + 2 X former 2nds (Grundstrom + Durzi) for Muzz who might be a 1 year rental as pending UFA? If Dubas had acquired excess picks for JVR and Gardiner and then dealt those picks for Muzz the damage is offset of picks in vs picks out.

I personally can see the benefit of dealing vets for picks and then using those excess picks acquired to buy rental players to build up your Cup chances and not hurting your future, because its like playing with house or found money.

Fake news
Dubas

Wasn't in charge when jvr , Bozak and leo were UFA s

Lou
I believe Gardner should have been traded a yr before he became a UFA . They new they were going to be tight right up against the cap , especially having Marleau on the books.

Dubas
Muzzin trade
We had a soft as ass defence
great trade
Resign him
We need a younger Muzzin as well

I believe leafs management jumped the gun on the rebuild .

Our defence wasn't ready for a cup run still isn't.

Lou
Jvr Gardner Bozak and leo assets would have went along way of rectify that.

Yep

Looking into the future is our organization biggest faults.

We're getting to the point where Dubas needs to pick a direction to take the team this year, and it's very possible that selling off UFAs and drafting high is our best bet. Playoffs are still a realistic possibility, but pretty far from a guarantee. The worst case scenario would be losing our pick and missing the playoffs, and trading futures to ensure a playoff berth may be unpalatable to some. So we'll see where Dubas goes from here
Agreed. I think he'll give them till trade deadline. If the team isn't contending for a spot, he could trade Muzzin, Barrie, etc. Give Andersen some rest and play Hutch going forward. Getting a top 5-10 pick would be something for the way this season has been.

This is completely unsubstantiated. Dubas specifically talked about contracts being one of the first things he addressed as GM, and how he talked to Marner's camp very early on.
So, Marner basically opens the year with JT, gets hot and decides he isn't going to negotiate in-season.
It was decided they weren't going to negotiate in-season before the season started.

the leafs will be unarguably elite by then.
Sounds rather vague.
Anything tangible that can be measured?
Perhaps pick one of these.
Cup win? Multiple Playoff round wins? 1st round defeat? Foresight to lottery protect the 1st?

1) Backup goalie situation
True, swing and a miss
2)Marner Contract
Somewhat true, but overpaid marner is better than no marner.
3)Matthews Contract
False - franchise C and one of the best scorers in the league. happy to pay up
4) Nylander Contract
False - value looks fine here
5) Cap Space (see #2,#3,#4)
Too early to say, really depends how the team does the next however many years
6)Signing Ceci(#1 worst contract value on the team @ 4.5)
Depends if you prefer ceci or zaitsev. i dont really like either.
7) Kadri for Barrie rental and Kerfoot (#2 worst value contract @ 3.5 per).
False - traded a strength(Center) for a glaring weakness (right D) with a C replacement. if a 3.5 million dollar 3rd line C is your second worse contract youre doing okay.

the leafs will be unarguably one of the elite teams by all measures in a couple months.

Which all traces back to Lou failure.
