Lias VS Vitali
@Draft day 2017
Big day for the Rangers who basically traded every pick in the first round in years prior. To have the 7th OA was like Christmas in June. As the picks left the board, Vilardi and Suzuki and Middlestadt were still up there. All three players were highly discussed on the trade thread board. Holy shit the Rangers are going to get one them... Bam! Lias Andersson. Wait, what? No way. WTF are they doing? Remote control throwing shit! There were Mock drafts with the Rangers selecting Andersson with the 21st. On average he was probably in the 15-20 range. But in the year you finally have a 1st round pick, and its in the top 10...Holy shit, what do you go off the board?
@Draft day 2018
I think Lias was more of a reach then Vitali was. The Kravtsov secret wasn't well hid. McKenzie and others posted about the Russian prospect the Rangers were scouting all year. His stock rose. He also had a draft class with some real solid Dmen coming but maybe lacked high end forwards. Kravtsov really only had to beat out Wahlstrom and Farabee. Truthfully I would have picked Dobson, or Bouchard over him at the time, but i get the appeal of drafting high end talent. Thats what they shot for.
Fast forward to the now.
Vitali gone. Nothing to show but a 48 Game stint an an AHL grinder who may at some point see sometime with the big club.
Andersson gone and Will Cuylle i believe marinating in the system.
I was thinking two things yesterday.
1) Is 31yr old Terasenko a better RW in the top 6 then 23Yr old Vitali Kravtsov? Forget about the 1st rounder that was used to obtain him? Maybe Quentin Musty, Ethan Gauthier, or Lukas Dragicevic? How much better is Tarasenko now?
2) Is Lias Andersson better then Jake Lechyshyn as a 4th line C?
