I actually really like Lockwood as one of our players. He's got speed, plays physically decent IQ for a role player, good shot. Sure it sounds very limited in terms of abilities of a NHLer, but we kinda knew this. I really wish he didn't get injured earlier when he was called up. He gets injured during Tocchets first game as coach and he hasn't played since. I think he would have stuck around as a solid role player for us.

he may sound like a nobody, but he's a decent asset. I hope he does well for the Rangers.

No, he wasn't going to be a key contributor to this team during a stretch run. The return stinks, but the team was in a bind and he wasn't going to be a part of them going forward. It is what it is. I had hopes for him, but, unfortunatelty, things didn't work out. It is what it is.

As I posted to @mas0764 it's disappointing it came to this and it stings when a top 10 pick flames out. This organization has had 2 of those in the last five years. It looks like Lafreniere and Kakko are beginning to look like they'll be contributing to the team as they (hopefully) progress in their careers.

I'd rather see Cuylle get a chance in the playoffs if an extra forward is needed. At least he has some upside.

We all had hopes for Kravtsov and no one wants to see a top 10 pick blow it. ....and Kravtsov has talent but skills only get a player so far. You have to work them and if you don't you'll waste them. Sometimes players don't want it enough.

But anyway draft picks don't always work out even if they're high ones and when they don't you move on. People tend to dwell on the negatives here all the time. Where we were in 2018 as a team and where we are now as a team are two completely different places and we have a number of young players who have made their mark and who will get even better in the years to come. I kind of look at that. Building a team from ashes is a process. The Rangers have done a pretty good job in a short time of figuring that out. It's messy though and sometimes you end up taking a step back so you can go forward again.

We really need to increase the depth of our scouting. YouTube scouts aren't gonna work. We need someone who's going to find out what these high picks are about off the ice too. Between Lias and VK, that's twice we wasted a top 10 pick on a spoiled rotten child. There should have been red flags that were obviously missed or ignored. Divas have no place in this organization unless you're Connor Bedard level talent and even then, it's not what you want to sign up for.

All you need to do is not try to be the smartest guy in the room and draft the consensus pick. Just follow mckenzies list for example. There is absolutely no logical reason to believe that among 32 teams with scouts, and other independent scouts, that yours are better than everyone else. If they just took the top available player per mckenzies list in those drafts it would have been vilardi and Dobson

But it's more than that. I want to pick the kid who's obsessed with the game. The kid who's in the gym or at the rink when everyone else is hanging out. Give me the awkward wierdo whose entire life's mission is the game. He's out there. He's all over. He's just not easy to find if you're not doing the work.

The thing I don’t understand is that Gorton’s regime supposedly valued character over all else didn’t they? Andersson was absolutely supposed to be a character pick, he was clearly less skilled than several other options but they liked his “intangibles”. VK was the unusual swing for the fences type pick that that regime rarely attempted.

Drury, for as critical as we’ve been of his decisions, seems to be of the same mind. He wants players that remind him of himself. Othmann very much seems to be that kind of kid.

I really think it just boils down to taking ego out of the scouting equation. It reminds me of trying to time the stock market. Tracking the S&P will almost always have a better ROI over the long term. I agree that these guys need to realize that they aren’t the smartest guys in the room.

Like I said in the roster building thread, Ranger fans were overestimating his value. Least we got something back. Hope Krav gets his career on track, but if he had issues with Gallant, not sure he will survive Tocchet.

In all seriousness I think this is a no brainer for the Canucks and I do think that there is a very good chance Kravvy is a middle 6 NHL forward for a long time to come. Lots of questions around Kravy for sure but he has lots of great tools and very well could end up a nice player for the Canucks.
He is going to get another chance. If he doesn't change his attitude he will out of the NHL within a year.

I should also say at least he’s not our problem anymore

Didn't he have a very good playoffs the year of the draft and that's about it? Seems like he's been coasting on that and his draft selection.

With that said it would be our bad luck to see him become a really good top 6 player in another system.
