Over Gauthier, Hunt, Tinordi, Hajek, all they had to do was put him as the extra forward.

I'm like 90% sure he would have asked for a trade if he made the team as an extra forward.

He wanted a top six spot, he was unhappy he wasn't given one last year when he came over, it wasn't just about making the team it was about being given a spot he thought he deserved and would succeed in.
Giving him a pity 4th line or 13F spot doesn't resolve the issues the Rangers have had with him

That's because we didn't have any prospects when Sather was running things!

Seriously though, I know there must have been some behind the scenes, but it's hard to think of any drama like we've seen with Andersson, Kravtsov, and DeAngelo when Sather was in charge. I think ultimately, he probably doesn't draft either of those guys or trade for DeAngelo.

This isn't to say Sather was perfect or even good, but there's something different about these things.

It was 100% he wouldn't take the assignment well...and Drury should have known that

Are you for real dude? you are trolling us hard lol

Maybe he should work on his attitude, because he'd be playing an NHL game tonight if he excelled in that regard.
He’s an extremely smart defensive player though. Makes sense because his vision is amazing too. So his hockey IQ is elite I would say. Offensively and defensively.

C’mon, you think his family just pulled some strings to get him drafted top 10 in the NHL draft? Nobody gets anywhere near that level without putting an insane amount of work in
Yea true. I just worry that he’s too talented for his own good. I can see him becoming one of the highest scorers in the NHL. With his vision, overall hockey sense, shot, skating, and insane skill, he should be. And like you said, I do see a real improvement in his shot, which wasn’t that great when he got drafted. So that’s evidence that he works on his game. Ughhhhhhh none of this makes any sense.

If anything, Sather had a reputation for actually getting European players to come over to the US
I’m mainly talking about sacrificing skill for grit and giving out dumb, dumb contracts. And being part of the problem that we could never develop an elite forward.

The more I read the more I lose confidence in this kid. Maybe it is just immaturity. Maybe entitlement. I do not know but I would consider a trade for a 2023 second round pick that becomes a 2023 first round pick if he plays 40 NHL games this season or next season. I would not want to make it based on production because I'm losing faith in him.

Alot of this has to do with assumptions you're making, which is fair because thats pretty much all we can do without knowing details. But their are assumptions to be made that he wasn't given a fair chance despite you wanting the kid to walk up-hill in the snow to practice both ways because "that's the way it has to be".

Since leaving the first time he has done everything that was asked of him, he was all but promised a spot this year and then got shafted. If he feels betrayed by the FO, I can understand why. It's not apples to apples, you can't compare his situation to all rookies trying to make camp. For all you know his teammates think so to. You can't let assumptions drive a narrative.

And as far as sending the message that "he's special and your not", you mean like they did with Kakko to Kravtsov in his first year? How is that fair? It's not, but it happens every year across the league like it or not.

I feel like all these points are being repeated from both sides of the argument, so I don't really wanna keep talking circles. However that's usually a sign that things could of been handled better by both sides, and fwiw one side is an emotional kid and the other is a pro sports gm who is supposed to be tasked with knowing better.
Very well said. I agree with all of this.

Honestly, has he objectively been that good at the North American game?

In the KHL, last season Kravstov scored .48ppg, very similar to Buch’s .44 his last year there. All good there, solid numbers for a kid in that league.

Buch came over to the NHL and scored .48ppg his first season. Funny enough he was sent to Hartford at some point and scored 5 points in 4 games.

Kravstov came over to the NHL and scored .2ppg his first season. He wouldn’t play in Hartford last year but the year before he scored .38ppg in the AHL.

For reference on the AHL numbers, here are some other ppgs of final AHL seasons before full time promotions:
Hunt scored .82
Rooney scored .44
Blais scored .69
Gauthier scored .84
Chytil scored .67, then 1ppg when he was sent down for 9 games in 19-20

Kravstov’s AHL ppg is less than all of these guys’ and a lot less than everyone but Rooney.

This doesn’t take into account linemates, zone starts etc either of course but just looking at production ultimately, the fact is Kravstov has not proven much at all in NA yet and there’s really little to no basis to refuse a stint in the AHL.

Remember when Jonathan Drouin was doing something similar back in 2016? Tampa didn't trade him for peanuts. They reconciled, let him play for a year where he put up 53 points in 73 games and then traded him for Mikhail Sergachev, a top-4 defenseman. A defenseman who was an integral part of their 2 Cup wins, by the way.

I know people don't want to hear this, and this doesn't change the fact that Kravtsov has himself to blame for the situation he's in, but it's in Rangers best interest if they reconcile, up his value and then trade him for something useful next year instead of letting him sit out in Russia, and settling for a 2nd rounder.

That said: f*** Kravtsov for not reporting.

Yes you are correct but there are differences in the way Drouin's camp played that situation out which allowed the Lightning to benefit in a better return. Taken from Wikipedia:

On January 3, 2016, Drouin's agent, Allan Walsh, issued a statement on his behalf, revealing that Drouin had made a trade request in November 2015, but had kept the matter private. Walsh referred to it as an "untenable situation" and that it was in everyone's best interest that Drouin be allowed to move on and play hockey.

On March 8, 2016, Drouin reported to the Crunch for the first time since he was suspended by the Lightning on January 20. Drouin told the media he believed the relationship between him and the team was fine, and that they would fix the situation over the summer. Drouin also said he planned on putting in the work to try to gain a call-up.

Yzerman never handed him an NHL spot. Drouin, relented, reported to the Crunch and said all the right things and played himself back on to the team. Is Krav and his team willing to do that (a second time)? and who the hell knows what Drury is thinking right now.

Rangers have been cursed by Russian draft picks since Cherepanov passed, RIP.
Been cursed with top 10 picks altogether.

hopfully laf/Kakko break the cycle
Getting Fox on sheer will and having Panarin sign with us for less takes the sting out a bit
But we didn’t even get a 25% success rate on Brendl/Lundnark/Andersson/Kravtsov
In recent memory

Im sure the Rangers would love to reconcile with Kravtsov and have him come back into the fold, but at a certain point you have to think about how the locker room (in NY & HFD) will respond to that. Seems to me like he will have to gain back a lot of players trust. After what was preached ad nauseum all summer and Training Camp, it seems like Kravstov seriously doesnt get it
