And the defence would be even worse
Not really.. we would have fixed the D sooner instead of banking on Broberg. Broberg has looked good lately but Zegras over him is a no brainer in hindsight.

Super Mario Bros. was available separately from Duck Hunt btw, it just wasn't commonly sold that way.

I think some of the Broberg doubters (some, not all), might be in part that they don’t want to give Holland any credit for passing on Zegras, who seems like a terrible player outside of that one dimension. I still can’t believe he has so many PIM on his team, not for “good reasons either, basically just undisciplined junk like the one that Desharnais drew on him.

That's unfortunate. Those 2 are not mutually exclusive. You can not like Holland but appreciate Broberg for what he is and can provide for this team vs a one dimensional winger. Right now and for the a while now scoring hasn't been the issue. It's suppressing them. My feelings for Holland as GM has nothing to do with Broberg

Not sure what's up with Draisaitl, but if he's actually I injured I wonder if playing him is doing more harm than good.

You would think he'd have dominated a game like tonight, but he only had 1 goal (albeit, a very nice one) and it was on the powerplay.

We desperately need more out of him at 5v5 moving forward if he's going to be centering his own line.

Zegrass looked like total junk today. Hardly noticed him except for when a first game NHL D was owning him. I can't stand Zegras though, might just be me.

I was a bit concerned when they passed on him as I thought they could use his skill but was worried about his attitude and figured there might have been a reason (ex: the impression that he wasn’t interested in playing for a Canadian team?)

When Broberg is putting up bigger minutes against more legit NHL tier comp, then great, all he is right now is a no.6 D. Yes some metrics look nice heavily sheltered but I recall Matt Benning having nice analytics in his rookie year here when he was sheltered on the bottom pair too. It's not some unbelievable feat.

You would think an Oiler fan would recognize the difference between putting up points and being an effective player. Broberg is much closer to becoming a difference maker in every aspect of the game. Zegras is good at getting points on the power play.

I know which one i would choose......
I guess whatever floats your boat.. to me it's not even close... Zegras is franchise level player with over 100pts already where Broberg is still getting his footing in place and is #6/7 Dman at best..

You wouldn't find many non Oil fans picking our boy over Zegras.

He doesn't look that much interested in playing for any NHL team.

jebus Kostin is on same goal pace as Zegras and we got him for a song.

I’m in a hotel off the I15, momma wants to be “home” by early evening tomorrow. I should go to bed so I can make Vapor trails by 6am. Having a pet severely curtails your airline flexibility. I forgot…
Plane will be late anyway, like a doofus I always arrive at airport way before departure and plane always hours late. ESPECIALLY early flights. Why do they even have those? Its like pure fiction.

6 am Flight time. Plane leaves at 9 after customs and pilots bother to show up off a bender..

That's rough bud. Safe travels!
Thanks. I appreciate the safe travels wish but theres nothing rough about my situation though. So many folks in a much more hard spot than this f***er.

We chose to get another dog, this one is a beautiful Irish setter /doodle rescue that has some severe anxiety issues because of her first 8 months on this marble (some people are real POS) and she can’t fly. Oh well, we drive instead.

The plane this time is a Ram 1500, preferred airline of Western Canada

Good choice. half a chance you'll beat the plane home.

I wonder how a Broberg - Desharnais pairing would look.

RD
He and Nurse is the only ones.

7D is the route. Takes time from Ceci and Nurse.

So stupid building a team on 3 offensive defensemans, where only one could defense sometimes...
The team is buildt to be to dependent on Nurse.

Kulak and Ceci gets burned out.
Broberg and Desharnias to the rescue....

The trick Woody has to do is two 2nd pairs..... a 18 min.

I hope Nurse Desharnias could end up being a pair. Pushes down Ceci to Broberg - Ceci/Bouchard.

On a team in mature phase of development in virtually every situation an age 21 defensemen likely onboards as a third pair guy. Edmonton has been a poor organization that played its young talent way beyond their capability which didn't help either the players or team. Finally this team is onboarding young players slotting realistically in a line-up that went to Final Four last year.

This is a good thing. The disappointment is this team's manager and coach, somewhat out of character, both set an expectation for Broberg to make this team which has been distorted into thinking he's going to come in a play top four minutes. This apex league chews up young defenders as they onboard requiring lots of time to adapt to its game speed, physical size of opposition, and requirement for fast processing/decision making. Last year's Calder winning d-man is struggling in his sophomore season.

Damn tough position.

McLeod led the forwards in icetime with just over 20 minutes. I hope this is a sign of Woody giving him a shutdown role and that he's willing to play him more. If he's aware of that role, I think he can rise to the occasion and thrive with a bit of seasoning as the season goes on. He has the tools. Todd Marchant 2.0. Probably not that good defensively, but give him the challenge.

He did wonders stabilizing the Draisaitl line. They still got killed to some extent, but McLeod’s defensive instincts kept them from being leaky.

Usage has been mostly against 4th lines. It’s good that they aren’t getting run over but it’s been against the easiest competition possible.
Yeah if anything I think this shows they're being used appropriately at 5v5. :) Same argument could be applied to the Ceci-Nurse pairing in most ghost but in reverse. If Nurse had a solid partner to slot into the line up that pushed everyone down I think you'd see big improvements on our D.
