Step away from the ledge bro, it's going to be ok.
I have remained calm until now.

I have absolutely railed against doing this leading up to today and the contract is even worse than I thought we'd be giving him.

I hate it. Its another middling non answer for too much money and term. Martin Gerber all over again.

Im not calling anyone names, but holy christ do I despise this decision.

Signing someone for 5 years with the task of “just be better than our last couple shit goalies” is insane.
Making the playoffs is the goal, do you have some kind of crystal ball & know exactly how he is going to play? Give the guy a chance, he's got plenty of NHL experience & enough playoff experience, if he manages to stay relatively healthy he could be an improvement. How many goalies were out there that wanted to come here that Ott could afford?
It doesn't matter what goalie we have because DJ Smith is still the coach.

So throwing a whole bunch of money at our goaltending situation isn't going to solve anything.

We had our tandem of choice available at the beginning of last season and Talbot and Forsberg were between the pipes for our worst stretch of the season.
Come on, enough with the DJ crap, it's way over the top. They are clearly going to be a better team next yr & if not everyone in this management team will be gone. But a miracle could happen & they could also be quite competitive as they were throughout most of last yr & ended up only 3 wins away from a playoff spot.

They just need stable goaltending, consistency & for the guy to stay healthy. He's also cheap something else they needed from that position. This isn't the last deal they make, I expect they will add either before the season or at some point during the season when the right player becomes available to improve them further. Hopefully, Forsberg comes back strong too & they could have two decent goalies with a solid prospect in Belleville as an injury replacement.

I honestly think people are overreacting. The contract isn't good, all of us agree on that.

Let's put the contract aside... We have a lot of money available and we can fit him in the lineup. He's a guy that I wanted when looking at available goalies on the market. Probably other guys (Varlamov, Andersen, Raanta) didn't want to sign here and they re-upped with their current teams.

The way I see it... I would rather spend money only and grab a goalie who's good enough than to spend a ton in assets to grab a Hart or a Swayman/Ullmark and then have to pay them a premium on top of it.

This is not the most desirable place to be so getting a guy who can at least give you NHL quality goaltending is a good thing.
Yes, this is the flip side. It's a poor contract, but the player itself has a career +.900 - most of which was on Columbus. So, he's got talent, let's just hope he works out.

Hopefully it works but another huge risky move by the guy with an awful track record at them

This could be the nail in the coffin

What we can hope for is the law of averages and a goalie move finally working out for Dorion.

If you keep taking swings, you should eventually hit right? Right?!

There are like 15 teams in the league that are saying the exact same thing.

A goalie isn't cheap when they have term - it can be difficult to move them.

Cap is expected to go up a lot next year anyways. Forsberg is off the books in 2 years as well.
I just don't know who you guys expected to play goal next year for us?

He has 20 reasons to be very happy.

I'll let you figure it out.

I'll wait.
Can you lend me your crystal ball that accurately predicts that in year three, Forsberg is gone (if he plays out the two years remaining on his contract) and Soogard graduates full time tomthe NHL as the back up for the remainder (2 years) of Korpisalo’s contract… and the problem you foresee.

I don't even think the AAV is bad, but 5 years seems like an unnecessary risk. At least the cap is probably going up next year.

We don't know that they will need to move him, maybe he turns out better than most here expect. If he stays for the duration of the term, he's only 29 yrs old & will be 34 at the end of this deal, still young for a goalie. If it turns out he sucks than they have a problem, but until they have a problem it isn't a problem.

Alex Lyon: 2 years @ 900k
Antti Raanta: 1 year @ 1.5M
Frederik Andersen: 2 years @ 3.4M
Mackenzie Blackwood: 2 years @ 2.35M
and then Joonas Korpisalo: 5 years @ 4M

Even Adin Hill signed for less than half of what Korpisalo got, and he just won a Stanley Cup as the starter.

If you’re going to sign a goalie on dice roll then sign someone that doesn’t cost this much and doesn’t want this much term. That’s the issue here.

Korpisalo is as risky as anyone lol.

I think the most boggling part of the length of the contract.

Like WTF was Dorion thinking? Insane
Team isn’t winning until Dorion and his management group are let go

I want them to clean house so badly can’t get over the stupidity they are killing this teams chance at winning by wasting valuable cap space on players that don’t move the needle much if at all.
