What I don’t get is how Gaut goes from scratched to getting OT minutes over Laf. Laf needs to be better but also needs more TOI. Let him work through it
before he got Covid, he was going to play on the Right Side with Panarin....What I don’t get is how Gaut goes from scratched to getting OT minutes over Laf. Laf needs to be better but also needs more TOI. Let him work through it
I guess Adam Graves, recalling his 52 goals in ‘94. What I neglected to recall was that he was one of NINE 50 goal scorers that year and of course way off the leader Pavel Bure with 60.I thought it very interesting on the trivia question tonight that the last Rangers player to lead the league in scoring was in the 41-42 season. Hope Kreider can keep it up, would be nice to have the leading goal scorer on this team
4 on 4 or 3 on 3 OT is all about leveraging the massive space suddenly available on the ice. You can do this a couple of ways, with speed or with patience/vision.What I don’t get is how Gaut goes from scratched to getting OT minutes over Laf. Laf needs to be better but also needs more TOI. This is a step in the right process. Making the Playoffs is step1. We need to start somewhere and this is a great start for one of the youngest teams in the league.I have an extremely hard time believing that's possible. The 5v5 issues are too deep rooted.
Panarin and Zibanejad are being opportunistic but aren't driving play. Kreider never drives play, he just parks it in front and deflects shots in, which has to come from other players' possession of the puck. Laf and Kakko and Chytil have not arrived yet. Bottom end players like Goodrow, Rooney, etc, just don't generate enough offense and never will.
I don't think adding a Hertl into the lineup and a Gauthier out of the lineup changes nearly enough. You still have all the same problems.
What you need is the maturation of 3-4 of your young stars into offensive possession and shot generators (Kakko, Laf, Chytil, maybe Kravtsov) and the arrival of plus players from your system (Barron, Panjuniemi, etc) to fill out the bottom and replace the black holes down there.
It is at that point that adding an icing on the cake piece becomes attractive.
Until then the team is going to have the same problems. Hertl isn't going to have the impact people think; he's way more likely to get lost in the wash.

There's area for great improvement.... when that improvement does come... we will be a force and the team to beat.
This was my yesterdays gdt post at 3pm.
couple things.....
1. Rangers 8-0-0 @Home vs Eastern foes
2. Haven't played Pitt, Wash., Car. NYI (Isn't that odd?) Bos.,Det. or Ottawa
Only 4-3-2 vs West
(teams that dont visit NY often really DO "Get UP and RISE to the occasion in playing in OUR house!
3. Bet its Lindgren banged up. (what else is new?)
4. GOAT on 2nd PP? I suppose there for retrieval AND/OR planting in front ala Kreids with less hands. lol.
irrelevant though, they see very little PP time.
5. Okay, more than a couple, sorry.
Nice game. Very entertaining until the last moment. Dull 2nd period. I think Drury will be very active. He might start after next Tuesdays game with a first deal. Edmonton?
Regarding dinner, had a big kidney stone attack on Sunday evening. Been drinking only water and eating some white bread. Plus some lovely meds that keep me Comfortably Numb. 6th time I got this. Know the procedure pretty well now, not recommended nor wished upon (almost) anyone I might add
RE: Bolded - Rangers had their game at the Garden against Islanders in November cancelled. This was my yesterdays gdt post at 3pm.

how did we sound?Thank you. I was stuck at work last night so it was a radio game for me.
Yes, agreed. Not saying that we should be tanking at this point.
I"m just saying we shouldn't be paying premium prices to rent and "go for it," either. Just take the playoffs and win what you can win with Fox and Shesterkin and Panarin.
However, the shots we did have were high quality and he was amazing.didn’t we have 9 shots through 2 or something?
The two big names we keep hearing aren’t rentals. I’m sure they’ll still add a rental of some kind but it seems as if they are fine adding term if the contract is reasonable
Reaves will be the 13th forward come playoff time.39 regular season games remaining. Would like to see 35 year old Ryan Reaves play a max of 20 of them. Keep him strong for the playoffs and let one of our prospects pick up some games to strengthen our depth.
That’s highly unlikelyReaves will be the 13th forward come playoff time.

they weren't but the Kings do shoot from everywhere and we pass, pass, pass, lose possession, defend.Quick has been slipping a bit the last few years but I've seen him put in the odd incredible game. He made some nice saves tonight.
I love Laf and expect him to be great, eventually. But KK has exhibited much better puck control and defensive responsibility than Laf and neither is finishing. Having said that, Laf based on our roster should be in the top 6.Kakko has been in the top6 ALL season. He has been nothing spectacular but Gallant has shown patience with him....
Where is it with Laffy? IMO Laffy has been showing way more than Kakko... where's his chance? and patience? He looks good in the top6 but it lasts 4 periods.
That’s highly unlikely
Agree. That’s why I would want him in game shape but not exhausted. Not so sure about that, he hits constantly and wearing down the opponent in a series is a big plus.
