Please tell me that the flu/cold is going through the team. For me, it's the only explanation for that disaster in Erie. Even the goalies weren't sharp. And I don't agree that the culture hasn't changed. A good, positive culture is in place for sure (Jussi says for sure a lot so I'd thought I'd jump on the band wagon).

Sop's dropped out with sickness.....Ellinas last night.....and who's next? They have less than a week to get healthy and ready to visit Kingston and Ottawa. And please Jussi.....come up with some ways to get in and around the trap!

Jussi said there was no excuse for the way the team played last night. I guess he has to come up with something when asked about the game. He was handed this team as it is presently so he can't be blamed for the lack of sandpaper. In reality the Rangers are easy team to play against because they play a soft game. They have a few big players as do most teams do but they play small for the most part. Not sure what is going on (flu) but looking at the OHL highlite reel Otter players just blew past the Rangers unimpeded and the goalies couldn't stop beach ball. Same thing happened in the Storm game but the goal tending was better. Finesse won't win to many games.

I'm basing my analyses of the rest of the season on one of the worst game they played all year.

Most of you were on the buy train because we were so high in the standings. I was ok with what we did but wanted a soft sell all year long. Some wanted to add even more, despite having next to no assets and little idea of who we could actually get who would really make us better and not just give us more of this...had we done that I suspect we'd be fairing not much better and we'd be down one of our 1st round kids.
I guess it's just funny for me seeing the 180 here after 1 particularly dog shit game (on the heels of a big comeback win) has everyone afraid the sky is falling.
This isn’t about one game. We’ve been a .500 team since very early December. We’re 7-9 since the Christmas break.

MM didn’t address our most pressing needs at the deadline. We didn’t need a (so far) underwhelming forward. Our first priority was a couple veteran d-men to strengthen a very thin blue line. I like the Savard addition. Good 3rd pairing D. But we needed another veteran on the back end. I like Reid, Campbell and Dirracolo as good young future D. But to have a deep, successful post season run, any more than one in the lineup at a time will put us at a disadvantage vs the better teams. We’re seeing that since Hamara and Schmidt were dealt. Fine if we were rebuilding or a year away from contending, but we’re not. At least we’re not supposed to be.

We may have to score 5+ goals a game to win in the post season.

My game plan vs the Rangers in the post season:

Batter the D. Do what I can to get the veteran D off the ice either by banging them up or getting them into the box.

The opposition’s chances go up the more minutes the Ranger rookie D have to play.

Boys seem to be standing around watching the play instead of driving the play as we did earlier in the season. They have played a lot of hockey, more games than most. Maybe they’re a little tired or it’s the flu but IMO we need someone to step up and lead this team, it says something that we haven’t named a captain as of yet.

We would have had to give up more future and I don't see another vet D who was available making a difference when our PP is stagnant. We paid little for Sale and he will be back next year. Still should have moved Brz and maybe Mesar.

I didn't see it happen, but the reaction sure looked like it. Suspect last game for him.
Misaljevic apparently slashed by Johnston on the unprotected area behind his left knee. Originally called a major & reduced despite the blatant pain & injury...? Warrants a review given the injury, IMO. Hopefully Misaljevic recovers quickly.

Could be the flu. Erie's been dealing with it as well. I was surprised at the number of icings Erie avoided by beating the Rangers down the ice. Especially since it was Erie's 3rd game in 3 days.

The Rangers have had this issue for a few seasons. This one in particular especially. No urgency going back into the defensive end. Happens every game and never corrected. We will blame it on the flu.

Moving out Hamara and Schmidt instead of Martin then bringing in Sale and Savard while keeping 2024 picks is more about the future than now.
If Kitchener was really wanting to win now, keeping Martin over Schmidt was a bad decision imo. Acquiring Hamara was the turning point in the Bulldogs season.

It's just the culture that we have developed over the years. The Knights pretty much have a great team every year but if they have a bad one, the fans can just shrug their shoulders and say, "We're due for a bad one, we'll be back". In Kitchener, we have such a recent history of middling teams that if we finally have a good year, and then slip, it is, "Oh no, not again!"

Owen Edwards hasn’t played in 5 games. They have have 7 games left before the playoffs and battling for 2nd place , Hopefully he’s gets at least 2 more games.
14-2 record 2.74 GAA 0.889 sv%
Solid season for the rookie

Please post an injury update when available. I missed the initial slash. I thought maybe his blade came out of his skate since neither player had the puck. He couldn’t put any weight on it and he tried multiple times. I hope he’s okay.

I was on the sell train all year up until the time the WJC guys left for camp. Sell off all graduating vets for what you can get for them and go from there. Sort of what the Petes did.

Once the first week of December rolled around, I flipped. I was on the “all in” train. But when I say “all in”, I mean pull out all the stops. Move an 07 or two plus high picks to add what we needed. A couple veteran D and a couple veteran inexpensive third liners to provide leadership. If we didn’t do that, then sell off graduating vets. I pointed to Brzustweucz, Sop, and Mesar.

The absolute last thing I wanted to do was what we did. Moderate, inexpensive buy in an effort to preserve all the futures. That is truly the closest you can get to standing pat without actually doing so. We are a young team that needed veteran depth leadership both for the third line and especially on D.

Adding players who’s best will come after this year wasn’t what I expected. Sale had a good WJC but looks to be comparable to what Mesar was last year - an import still finding his way in the league. I figure if he’s returned next year, we’ll get out of him what we’re getting from Mesar this year. But that won’t help this year’s team.

Savard is a good add but we needed a veteran 04 D as well. If that D was too expensive to acquire, then a hard decision needed to be made on the third OA slot. What could a Connor Punnett have added to our back end, had we gone in that direction instead of committing to Mitch Martin? Martin is a beast and will be just that in the post season. But if we can’t keep the puck out of our net, and/or have to play rookie D way more than we should, because our vets are gassed or hurting, on what we hope is a deep post season run, what Martin brings may not matter.

Are we going to have to score 5+ goals a game to win in the postseason? It looks that way based on our play so far this year.

Hamara is playing in all situations for Brantford and is looking great. I don't know how the Rangers could not find enough playing time for Hamara. He is probably Brantford's best defenseman right now. Hamara was a plus 21 coming into this weekend. And I think we should have kept Schmidt he was playing a lot more physical which this team is not. It is getting late in the year and still no Martin. Also to bad this losing streak was not earlier in the year like we expected. This way MM could have done what we all thought would happen trade for picks and young players. Instead MM added a little
which don't look like will help the team.
I hope in the next draft we add some more grit which is really needed. MM had a great past draft
just not much sand paper in the last draft though.

Ya I think going "all in" with who was available would have been crazy and left us in a bad spot for the years to come even with a good haul for Rehk next year. Reid was/is untouchable anyway. I'm not convinced the veterans that would make the difference, who were available and affordable (with what little we had to trade) were necessarily out there. Prices seemed high in some cases and outside of a couple guys, there weren't a ton of options that would be fully worth it. Just my opinion.
If we're struggling with this lineup, I really don't see a way in which giving up an 07 makes us a true championship level team.
Had we done all that, I think a run of bad games would cause even more alarm here.

Not defending MM's moves, I advocated soft sell all year in a similar way London will sometimes do (McCarron back a ways off the top of my head in a good year for them). Still think that was the best move (ie. Brz, Mesar, Schmidt) for the future while leaving enough to be competitive in the playoffs.

Hamarra probably wanted top PP time is my guess...with Brz QBing it, and the other guys we have, I don't see how that would happen. Schmidt coming back made those small odds significantly less. I personally don't see a way in which you can keep both Hamara and schmidt, given the wants of both players.

I would guess MM didn't make a concrete decision on what to do with the OAs when Hamara asked for a trade...had Kingston offered what they did for Schmidt right away when he was re-assigned, I have a feeling we might still have Hamara.

And the Rangers have not been close to the same team since Hamara and Schmidt were moved.

Based on the prices at the deadline, we’d have had a hard time addressing our needs even if we included an 07 or two (two parter) plus 06’s that held value and the picks we did have.

When you see D like Donovan McCoy and Konnor Smith (no disrespect) go in deals for 1st round picks, it must have given MM pause when it came to prices.

If the belief then was that we couldn’t “keep up with” the likes of Saginaw in the arms race with our thin draft cupboard, an about face should have been done and guys like Bzudtewicz, Sop, and Mesar should have hit the market.

That could have been Brzustewicz going to Saginaw instead of Donovan for that package and Sop to the Soo instead of Frasca for that package. Mesar could have been an upgrade on a couple imports on contending teams.

Erie is a team to not be slept on. This is a very good team set to be a big spoiler if met in the playoffs.

Looking at your line up could it be that Like Mississauga and Brantford Kitchener is looking towards next year. You guys look like you are still going to have most of the band back.

Probably no Mesar, Bruz, Sop, Martin or Motew. Two of Missle, Puglese, Swick, Parsons and Malboeuf have to go. I doubt it.

MM went to the cupboard last year and cleaned it out. Gave the Rangers some play off cash in a couple of rounds. This year the Rangers had an unexpected boost in production in the first half of the season before settling into what it is presently. To be in on the most sought after players you have to have a boat load of assets and the Rangers just didn't have what it takes without damaging the last draft. There are no guarantees in hockey. You can sell the farm and spend all the cash on lottery tickets but in the end you could end up with nothing. Hard to fill all the holes in a team with limited assets at the deadline.

I noticed that the Ref in the corner stuck his arm up right away........oh wait..........

And this is no disrespect for Erie. They even had two 30-goal scorers missing. My comments were solely on Rangers play because the team on the ice was not the Rangers I know.
