Not many teams able to compete with Saggy after these trades. They are really stacking the odds. With the assets being spent the Rangers just aren't in the game.
Ya gotta think that MM is taking note of Peterborough's impressive accumulation of high-end '07's by Mike Oke. If he gets reckless in the next couple of days, he won't be in the game this season as you mentioned bobber, or going forward either.

D Jorian Donovan to Saginaw for eight draft selections (Barrie’s 2nd in 2025, Barrie’s 3rd in 2025, Ottawa’s 3rd in 2025, Owen Sound’s 2nd in 2026, Saginaw’s 3rd in 2026, Mississauga’s 4th in 2026, Saginaw’s 3rd in 2027 and Saginaw’s 4th in 2027).

That's 2 x 2nds, 4 x 3rds and 2 x 4ths. Anyone need a Hunter B on their D?

stay the course MM , stay the course!!!!
What would that be?? Stand pat? No thanks!!

If he’s not buying, he better be selling. What’s the point of preserving the 07’s if he’s not going to build the assets base? Especially the ‘24 draft.

Standing pat means choosing to not buy, which scuttles our chances going deep this year. Standing pat means not selling, which hurts our future.

Make up your mind, Mike!!!!

At this point, I feel that the very least MM should do is trade Hunter. If Donovan got 2 x 2nds, 4 x 3rds and 2 x 4ths, Hunter should go for a fair bit better. That would keep me content until next year when the selling gets intense.

I don’t think there is enough to start selling anyways. Saginaw has 1 3rd left I think. NB has no 2nds or 3rds left I think. The only teams to trade 2007s might be the only teams that were willing to do so. MM might come across some discounts late in the game with a lot of teams already emptying the cupboard. Patrick Thomas you would think would be available. Bujold might be a good 3rd line center. I’m sure with what Saginaw just added Guelph might just say let’s back down and sell some assets. Buchinger, Namestnikov and Karabela might all become available. Flint has flipped and then flopped already….maybe they flip again and sell. Slavicek, Pitre or others become available.

What team buying has those types of picks left? Are they willing to spend everything they have on 1 player?

This Saginaw team as of right this moment is reminding me of the '98-'99 Plymouth Whalers after their trade deadline. Back then, watching their PP made up of former first rounders toy with the opposition in the O-zone was just scary.

Besides waiting to see what MM is going to do, my question is what is London going to do now? Judging from the past, Mark Hunter always seems to do the right thing. At the very least you can count on him to come up with a well thought-out plan and not to just "roll the dice".

I think Hunter sees his chance much better next year. If he can add a depth player for cheap he will. If not they will save their assets for next year. Maybe if a good 2005 player becomes available they might do that.

So what you’re saying is, his inane “going all in” last year, which burned up all our assets and as a result, crippled his ability to buy this year.

And, now that he cannot buy with the big boys this year, has waited too long to sell and in fact, has blown this year’s playoff run, and put a big wrench into our future.

Way to go, Mike!

If he stands pat it’s failure for sure. I don’t see him doing that though. I think he lands at minimum a very solid 3rd line option and a 3/4 dman to complete the top 4D. Ellinas - NEW - Lam is not a horrible 3rd line if that NEW is solid. The top 2 lines when healthy are solid. The 4th line is just fine. Top 3 in Ando, Bruz and Motew are good. Add 1F / 1D and we aren’t a huge underdog with any team. Add 2F / 2D and I like our chances. Still 36 hours to deadline. Lots of time left.

I’m content with staying pat at this point and feel it’s too late to sell based on what teams have spent. Even with some adds I don’t see them getting past sag or the soo. Fall down to 4th in the standings and get a middle of the pack first rounder and a early 2 (Erie pick)

Geo looks like all the big contender/pretenders have shot their bank accounts already. Not sure who has the 1st rounder and 10 picks required for Hunter. Average players goin for 8. They look average to Hunter.

Jives it's not really a failure IMO. The cupboard was almost bare here. Can only go to the well once in a while when you have the assets. This season the Mem Cup is in the OHL. All the older teams that think they have a shot always go for it . Last kick at the can for a lot of them before a rebuild. MM pulled a rabbit out of the hat with the draft by being creative. Can't keep doing this every year. It will come back to bite him in the rear end eventually.
Donavan went for 8 picks. Rangers couldn't come close. No team ever won a cup trying to do something on the cheap side. Maybe MM makes some sort of move but I can't see it filling what the Rangers need to go far in the play offs. Hopefully I get another crow pie but I doubt it.

I don't think MM can win no matter what he does at this stage. He made his bed last season and sealed it with the returns he got for Hamara and Schmidt. A 3rd and 4th for Hamara is laughable at this point 😥

If your tired of him the good news is his contract is up end of next season

In other news. Ranger pick cutter Gauthuer has been traded after refusing to sign with the flyers

Crane would have been nice at that cost.
Ellinas. Crane. Lam.

Need two half decent D to eat minutes. I don’t like our chances with both Reid and Campbell every night in our bottom six. Has not been working out.

Yes it is a failure because everything you laid out in your post he should have seen coming.

Therefore, the failure is not selling. We could have sold Brzustewicz, Sop and Mesar for large return and still gone to the 2nd round.

Instead, we’ll graduate them and the cupboard is still thin.

Quick turn of events there?
I thought I put it in the wrong thread lol, but I've left it in the main deadline one.

Seems confusing on Ottawa's part, but it's the same source I've been using for other recent posts. They even said picks
