They were always going to be.
A lot of posters jumped on Saggy and wanted the league to remove them as host in the thread created about the Mem Cup host. Some didn't take them seriously. There are posters that still think Saggy doesn't deserve being awarded the position even though they are rising in the standings and strengthened their squad. Sour grapes I guess.

Kitchener does not own his rights anymore. The Rangers currently have four overages on the roster and they had to down to four by November 10th. All other overages had to be released after that date. My understanding this applies to all overages not just those on the roster.

So if LA thinks the best option in OHL what in your opinion happens? And I don’t know…just to be clear. To me if he is a free agent or not property of any team he would get to pick his team? In this case Kitchener would simply have to trade an OA to free up a spot so he could return to Kitchener?

If he was dispatched to the OHL, I’d assume he’d be a FA and go the waiver route.

But a few years back, when it was “determined” that Peter Tsmikalis wasn’t returning to the OHL, his rights were released by Oshawa, I believe, and the Rangers got him for free shortly thereafter.

The Rangers were no where near the bottom of the standings it to have been a waiver pickup. So maybe he was able to call his shot? I remember it being out there that it was a cooked deal by DeBoer and the Rangers.

So, perhaps Pinelli, or anyone at this point, can call their shot? Unless rules have changed?

Peter I’m 99% sure did pick Kitchener. One would assume if not property of any team the player would get a choice of where he wants to play. I would think Pinelli would be 90% Kitchener and 10% Ottawa.

Tsmikalis came here as an FA. Brad Selwood felt he was swindled by Tsmikalis' assurances when he elected to leave Tsmikalis off the Gens' protected list. Selwood: "Obviously we are disappointed after everything we were told, but we'll move on. I guess Peter has sent his message to Oshawa". Whole lotta vintage Deboer horse trading going on at the time (Downie/Martello/Tsmikalis in, Rizk(C)/Bastien out) cast a shadow too I recall.

If MM's due diligence was lacking, Pinelli could be a junior FA now too but FP's probably too big a fish to simply leave unprotected? MM would likely waive/trade another OA (has to anyway) to get Pinelli back here, even if only to maximize trade currency. IMO, I think Pinelli gains more from a stint with the Swamp Rabbits than he would coming back to the OHL, even if it's only a 'character build'.

Does kinda make you wonder why the Rangers haven't named a Captain yet. Maybe last year's Captain is coming back??

It's always interesting to look back on this stuff, as I remember Tsimikalis coming here after he was seen as too good for the OHL and AHL read, only to have him largely play ECHL and Sweden's second league before hanging them up. Wouldn't have expected at the time for his pro-prospects to dry up as fast as they did.

Sheila I doubt very much we ever see a Pinelli in a Ranger uni again unless his younger brother gets traded and ends up here. There hasn't been one scrap of evidence Francesco was being sent back here or anywhere in the press or otherwise. Unless someone can produce a link to it? Also we don't really know if the Rangers even still have the rights to him? It's a grey area that most on here have no knowledge of.

Soooo how we feeling tonight? It kind of feels like the Rangers are heading into a trap of some sorts. Do they get more of the same from Windsor or are the Spits going to have the best game of their season tonight? Rangers need 9 goals tonight to average 5 goals per game after 20 games. I thought maybe that was going to be a hard stat to reach but who knows now!

I'm making Pinelli coming back by agreeing with you! 😀

Having said that, i do wonder about adding too many pieces from last yrs underachieving team. Note, not pointing fingers at Pinelli but there comes a time a player should move on. He's too good at his age for this league.

A couple things. First in regards to tonight’s game, the Rangers better not take for granted this will be an easy win. With Windsor getting wrecked last night I would expect some sort of push back as nobody wants to be embarrassed like that at any level of sports. Secondly in regards to Pinelli I don’t know if I would want him back. Don’t get me wrong he’s a terrific player but he was the captain of last years severely underperforming team and as captain should he have not had a better handle on the room in regards to the rumours that there was a disconnect within the room. As a leader was he partly responsible for this or did he not have his finger on the pulse of the team? Again that’s just if the rumours of a division in the room are true. If he were to come back I would want him to be a team first player. I thought that when he got suspended a couple times last year that they were selfish plays that most definitely could have been avoided.

If Kitchener has a massive collapse and are in the bottom half at deadline, this essentially take Saginaw out of the Brzustewicz stakes right?would be 2 elite offensive defenceman and a solid one in Dionicio but many goals against
If Kitchener decides to sell, and it still may come to that, I’m sure they’ll have no problem finding a home for Brzustewicz for fair return.

Agreed, it's incredible how few top prospects ever have NHL careers.

I went and lived in my college GF's hometown, Zug - a Swiss town the size of Fergus, for a year between degrees in 1990-92. On the Zug hockey team that Winter were childhood hockey heroes & OHL standouts Red Laurence & Don McLaren along with early 1st rounder & 'brief Leaf' Ken Yaremchuk playing with mostly local Zug guys under eventual NHL coach Andy Murray!

Was he penalized for starting a second fight, or was it 2 fights that happened at the same time and one set had to get the longer penalty (if that makes any sense)?
